Photogenic town...yea, that's the ticket. ;)
Key word is PHOTOGENIC.
Odd, I've yet to find a fellow Pittsburgher who knows Michael Haboush - or if they do, they're not admitting to it. . .

Does anyone else ever experience the phenomenon I do when I have a head cold:

You go through the entire day feeling like you've gotten through the worst of it, and then, after sunset, all the symptoms seem to overwhelm you?

I'm guessing it's a matter of either meds wearing off, or, perhaps, the body wearing down and tired of putting up a brave front.

Potatoes, it is.

Potatoes Anna, I think.

Love those!

This will do it for me, I think, for the nonce.

Those Potatoes Anna won't peel, slice, arrange and bake themselves.

And I won't be in the mood to do those things, either, in another 30 minutes.

So it's off for now...the nonce....or the poncie ponce...

There is a screening of "Rent" happening in Bk's territory in a few minutes!!  Amazing what you can learn on the NET.

I couldn't post, either. . .so I PM'd several H&Ks, then, I went out and found out that I am now EMPLOYED AGAIN!  I'll still be a server, hell, that's my career, but, now I will be at the new Pittsburgh Mills' Red Robin Restaurant, pushing gourmet burgers and endless steak fries AND getting health benefits, too!

Congrats, td!  Now you've got me craving a yummilicious Red Robin guacamole burger and a bunch of them steak fries.  Aalhglrhglghlrhglrhglhrhllhlhhhh...

Topic of the Day-

The Crowne in Melbourne which I mentioned in yesterday's posts.  It's basically a city within a city.  Indoor Olympic-sized swimming pool, posh restaurants, not-so-posh restaurants, full-service spa, and a casino that is open 24 hours!  And it's located right on the river, and the views of the city from any of the rooms are stunning.  And truly the best customer service I've ever received in a hotel-type establishment.

I've also spent some time down at Disneyworld, and The Grand Floridian truly is worth the splurge.  However, I don't even mind the "family-priced" resorts.  I always prefer to be "on campus" when I'm there.

DR Jane - As for Billy's Bakery...  The cupcakes are good.  I'm partial to the vanilla cake with chocolate icing.  However, I've also had a very good slice of blueberry pie there too.  And the chocolate chip cookies are also pretty satisfying.

In July we are going on a floating resort.

So, that's why you are going to be in Seattle.  You are going on an Alaskan cruise.  How wonderful.  Which cruise line will you be on?

Happy Birthday, Skip!

Congratulations, td!

And now I must buckle-down winsocki myself, and finish Finale-ing a transposition for the show.  I've actually been reading the song "down" the past couple of rehearsals, and it's been pretty easy, surprisingly so.  But I need to run off a copy for the conductor and also for the final "book" of the show for this production.  I just hope  I don't keep reading this transposition "down" - it's happened before - I just seem to get in that mode.

OH!

And "Lost" was pretty jam-packed with exposition and information.  And that's all I'll say for now.

Continued thanks from Skip for the birthday wishes.  The main birthday celebration will be on Saturday evening, but we had a delicious birthday dinner at 44 and X Restaurant.  Unfortunately, just before the main course was served, the loudest party of six you've ever heard was seated right next to us.  But the food was delicious.  (I couldn't resist - following the discussion here a bit back, i felt compelled to order the chicken and waffles with the maple syrup reduction; it wasn't as good as at Jezebel's, but it was still pretty great.)

I am not usually very picky about transfers. When people state the edges are soft  and many of the other usually complaints (grain etc) I usually can't see what they are talking about.

BUT BOY OH BOY

Where they right about OKLAHOMA! and the Todd AO version yech!!!

All the resorts I have been to, have been the floating variety.  However, each of those vacations, whether seven days or thirty, has been incredible.

and now the Sound of Music.

I have a  2 questions

On the trailer for the rerelease was the voice over Malachi Throne?

On the comparisons section

The 2005 restoration vs 2005 video version. IMHO the video transfer looks better. The sky looks bluer than the film restoration. Shouldn't they be the same? WHy the difference?

As to Disney World's resort hotels, a word of warning:  While the Polynesian Resort is my all-time favorite (and Grand Floridian Resort looks just great and apparently is great according to Jose's post above) the so-called Contemporary Resort is a "resort" only in the most kind sense of the word.  While priced as a luxury property, it is really just an extremely well-located ordinary hotel.  A big disappointment in terms of atmosphere and amenities after having stayed at the Polynesian.  I would probably stay there again because of its great location, and the fact that the hotel houses the great California Grill, but I now know what to expect in terms of the place itself.

Thank you SO much, DR td, for this information. I went to the website but saw no way to leave a message and was going to have to send a snail mail letter.

Now, I'll start with an e-mail and go from there.

And reading other opinions at amazon.com, it's obvious that lots of other people are outraged as well.

I had planned to watch SUPERNATURAL off the DVR during the 8 p.m. hour leading up to LOST, but instead got consumed with STATE FAIR.

First, the 1962 version looked and sounded just fine. I even listened to a bit of Pat Boone's commentary, but he doesn't talk constantly. There are quite a few quiet portions where the film just plays. However, I only listened to the last maybe 15 minutes of the film with the commentary track turned on. Up until then, I was listening to the Dolby 4.0 surround track.

Pamela Tiffin was not a very talented actress, at least not in this. That Southern drawl she's attempting is pretty awful, and then Anita Gordon's voice comes in singing for her with NO accent.

I also played some of the 1945 version of STATE FAIR, and I'll be darned if I didn't think the color in this wasn't up to snuff either. It seemed very pastel and not very rich Technicolor. The image was sharp enough but the color didn't pop at all.

I stuck in the old DVD of STATE FAIR to compare and sure enough, the colors are deeper and richer in that transfer. But the old one doesn't have the stereo track or the commentary that the new disc has. I guess I'm going to have to hang on to both. Argh!

Yep, LOST was jammed full of action and exposition all right, but for my taste, it was just a bit TOO jam packed. I know the viewing public would be up in arms if they had to stay several weeks away from Jack and Kate and Sawyer and Charlie and Hurley and Locke, but really, some of the events that happened to these other survivors deserved a lot more fleshing out and could have made for exceptional hour broadcasts of their own.

I felt it was way too rushed, like having a Cliff's Notes summary of their story with all the tone and detail missing. Just a bunch of climaxes that were exciting but not as satisfying as they might have been.

INVASION gets creepier by the week. It's clear we have a variation on INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS with this show, but how it's happening and how long it takes for the substitutions to take over are making for really flesh crawling viewing.

Creepy fun!

So, the DVR line-up for tomorrow consists of SUPERNATURAL, LAW & ORDER, and VERONICA MARS.
