What prompted you to listen to THE ROTHSCHILDS?

I remember one of the critics from way back when saying that "Allons" was basic high-school French.  That critic happens to live in our building and I just saw him on the elevator, so I was free associating.  I've always wanted to ask him what high school he learned French in if "Allons" was high-school French.  But of course I lack the nerve (a WIZARD OF OZ reference).

Oh, I just noticed the title in my pile of Columbia/Sony Broadway cds!

Yes, it's "basic" but, being a military song it's suitable! :D

Since I'm still on a Cy Coleman kick, I'd have to say my favorite Christmas song is "Lovers on Christmas Eve."

"We Need a Little Christmas" was a real favorite also, until someone pointed out that Jerry Herman had used the same music for "It Takes a Woman" give or take a note or two.

Btw, I wonder (and I'm no Sleeping Booty myself) whatever happened to Jill Clayburgh.

Well, that's ok; he only stole from himself!

Actually, Jill Clayburgh just starred in a play (A NAKED GIRL ON THE APPIAN WAY) on Broadway that ran its limited run, and is set to open in BAREFOOT IN THE PARK in a few months.

I know Herman only stole from himself, and I know I really can't fault him for that, but I find myself drifting into "It Takes a Woman" whenever I have "We Need a LIttle Christmas" running through my head.

What part will Jill be playing?  The mother, I am assuming?

Class and dignity?  Ain't it the truth.

I thought "Lex" did a nice job, too, DR MATTH.  He is my favorite actor on the show - but I just don't watch it regularly.  I am afraid my Superman/Superboy/Lois/Lana mythology was formed with the comic books in the 1960's and I find some of the revisionism a bit jarring.

I did always think it was interesting that Superman/boy's love interests had a particular alliteration...LL...Lois Lane and Lana Lang....and that his "enemy" was Lex Luthor.  If course his last name on Krypton was El.

Very EXCITED to hear DR CP's news!!!

I doubt that he has stolen John Wayne's footprints from in front of Graumann's Chinese Theatre....but I bet it's something JUST as exciting!

Yeah, Jill Clayburgh will be playing the mother.  (I know that means she's gotten much older, but more importantly, it means I've gotten much older.)

The stud-starred cast features Patrick Wilson, Amanda Peet, Clayburgh and (I believe) Tony Roberts.

Am I the only one who sees the name of the movie MBarnum is watching - RAJA JANI - and thinks of the Jewish new year Rosh Hashana?

Maybe Raja Jani should be a cause for celebration.

Of course any Bollywood movie is a cause for celebration!

Jed, giving counter-LOL.

At the elementary school level there are plenty of songs to challenge their voices, IMHO.  I had no objection to the songs chosen by the choir teacher in Middle School-but then that school was sensitive to the "other" populations of students. ;)

If you had been the music instructor and had explained why non-Jesus mentioning songs weren’t musically challenging I’m sure I would have felt differently than I did.  When these songs were included due to lack of sensitivity or prejudice against other races and religions it was very upsetting.

Oh, at the elementary school level I certainly agree that we can do without the religious songs.  Middle school could probably get by reasonably without them too, but once you get to high school, I just think it would be hard to put together a sufficiently well-rounded repertoire of vocal music for the students without including a piece with a sacred text here and there.  Simple fact is 80% of classical vocal music has sacred text... too much to completely discard from school music programs.  Programming songs out of prejudice is so beyond my comprehension that I guess it just never occurs to me as a possible motive for some teachers.

DR JRand - ...And I keep forgetting to answer you...

The baseball players are wearing boxers underneath their uniform pants.  Yes, I know that the compression pants were 'regulation', but I have to say the boxers are a bit more revealing... and I mean that in a good way!

Good eve, all. I'm just in from my friend's new off-Broadway play, DOG SEES GOD. I'm so incredibly proud of him getting this show produced - and it really is pretty good. One of the stars of the show is Ian Sommer-whatsit from "Lost."

For those of you in the southwest who've not seen a great deal of snow...I woke up this morning and looked out of the balcony window and this is what I saw:
