THE SOUND OF MUCOUS
« on: December 12, 2005, 12:09:43 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, you shall now sing The Mucous Of The Night from Phantom of the Opera, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently reciting that classic Noel Coward line "Strange how potent cheap mucous is."

Well, whoever this JB-NYC is, the only two posts that he posted were on November 18, 2003, 12:04:51 PM  and January 05, 2004, 10:54:37 AM.  Hopefully, he'll pop in and say "hi."  But then, he didn't on his birthday last year, so I'm not holding my breath. ;)

There are so may female-female duets that I like:

"Enough Is Enough/No More Tears" by Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer
"The Brotherhood of Man" and "Our Time" sung by Liz and Ann Hampton Callaway
"What You Don't Know About Women" from City of Angels sung by Randy Graff and Kay McClelland

I'll leave it there for now and think about others.

I didn't know Wild Bill well enough to just refer to him by his family name. Mr Hiccup to me.

Good morning, all!  I'm back to work on the Toyland notes, I also have trip today to my accountant and to midtown for lunch with an old friend.  Tonight, I've got a rehearsal with the Men's Chorus so I have an afternoon of taping band parts together.

I had forgotten that Ang Lee directed the THE ICE STORM, the film that BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN mostly brings to mind.  There are many similarities between the two.  I felt ICE STORM was greatly underappreciated and that Kevin Kline was quite wonderful in it.

TOD:
"Au fond du temple saint" the greatest duet ever for tenor and baritone
   Perfect Strangers (DROOD)
Oh Happy We; You Were Dead, You Know; We Are Women (CANDIDE)
   Baby, it's Cold Outside
   Make a Miracle (WHERE'S CHARLEY?)

Hello you all.  I'll think about duets-- see which ones start going through my head as I get ready for work.  So far, it seems to be starting with, "if Mama QWere Married."
I will admit that Merman dong "Anything You Can Do" (originally with Ray Middleton-- or later with anyone) Is hard to top).

TOD:
   Perfect Strangers (DROOD)

DR Elmore, I would agree that this song is not only one of the best show tune duets around but also one of the most under appreciated, or perhaps, undiscovered.  The track on the DROOD OCR sends shivers up and down my spine whenever I listen to it and I've never understood why no other artist have taken it on.  I wonder how it would sound with M/F vocals...

Speaking of strangers (and the TOD), I remember liking "I Never Talk To Strangers" with Bette Midler and Tom Waits.

More duets to follow as I recall them.  I'm a bit foggy-headed right now--back in the office after a week's vacation in which I was constantly on the go.  I don't quite know if I need to rev myself up to get back in the swing of things or if I should look forward to the more relaxed atmosphere of the office.  In any case, my 24oz cup of Wawa coffee is doing me just fine.

Oh darn, we didn’t like THE ICE STORM.
Cillaliz, I found Syriana depressing.  I also left feeling bits and pieces still need filling in and left disappointed.  I’m glad I saw the movie and found it interesting.  What did you think?

The first duet thatpops in my mind is from the original concept album of Chess... "I Know Him So Well" I think it's Elaine Paige and Barbara Dickson (Dickenson?) but I'm not really sure....

"A Boy Like That/I Have a Love" from West Side Story by the orignal Broadway Cast Chita Rivera and ?

and also from that same album  "One Hand, One Heart" cannot for the life of me tell you the names of the singers

When I was little ( 4, 5 , 6)  my dad used to play this album over and over .. he would put it on after I went to bed but I could hear it quite clearly in my room and I loved it.

Oh, boy, I'm glad you guys remembered "Perfect Strangers." Always been my favorite song from DROOD, and yet had it not been mentioned, I would have probably forgotten it, and it's too beautiful ever to be forgotten.

I also think "Barcelona" is haunting. Someone mentioned "There's Always a Woman" the other day, and that is a great duet.

Berlin: "An Old Fashioned Wedding" and "A Couple of Song and Dance Men."

"Till There Was You" is another I really love.

Can anybody tell me what they take when they have a drip in their throat? I've never had this during the day.

At night I usually take sudafed tablets. But that makes me very drowsy and dries out my throat (which i don't need right now cause it makes it hurt).

Thanks.

The TV section in the local newspaper still lists KITCHEN CONFIDENTIAL as coming on tonight with a new episode, but I'm sure that's wrong and the change was decided too late to make a change in the listings.

Fox stated in a press release last week that it would show no more episodes of the show and that reruns of ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT would fill the time slot.

I noticed that MEDIUM is a repeat tonight, and I remember an episode with Chad Lowe as the guest star, but I can't honestly say I remember much about the episode otherwise, so I'm looking forward to seeing it again. Perhaps it was an episode from last spring.

"A Boy Like That/I Have a Love" from West Side Story by the orignal Broadway Cast Chita Rivera and ?

Carol Lawrence. :)

Favorite duet? Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger.

Oh! You meant SONG duets...hehe...

"Hey There," "No More Tears (Enough is Enough)," Emily & Alice doing "I Will Never Leave You," the soprano duet from "Lakme," "O Suave Fanciulla" from LA BOHEME, "Both Sides of the Coin" from DROOD [my cast recording has been M.I.A. for the last 3 or 4 years - that is the correct title of the song, right?], "A Little Priest" and "I Still Believe" from MISS SAIGON.

That's all of them...for now...

So many lovely duets already mentioned.

But I will add:

PITIFUL PENNILESS BUMS by Mr BK and Brent Barrett - this track is so much fun on so many levels.  Loved it from the moment it first started to play!

IT TAKES TWO by Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston.  I love the arrangement!  And those two voices apart and together make a GREAT record.

WHEN I FIRST SAW YOU from Dreamgirls OBC Ben Harney & Sheryl Lee Ralph

BARCELONA is lovely....had to mention it again!

And in conclusion

Kiki Dee & Elton John singing DON'T GO BREAKIN' MY HEART
