Mike Barnum... I hope that the new gas boiler you are getting is NOT a SLANT-FIN brand boiler.  if it is, reconsider!! Ours just broke down again last night, I am sitting here missing work waiting for the plumber to come.

We had this put in new 6 years ago to replace the boiler that we had from 1955.  the 1955 bolier had never broken down but we feared it might and decided to invest $3800 in a brand new one to be on the safe side.  Well this is the 6th winter in 6 years that it has broken down.  The first time was the day after it was installed.

Good morning!

Partly cloudy here today, and it's warming up today and tomorrow before getting back to winter by Sunday. Today should be nice and appropriate for a walk.

Well, audiences on this side of the continent certainly enjoyed THE RETURN OF THE PINK PANTHER. I can vividly remember the theater where I saw it jammed with people laughing hysterically throughout the film. I was one of them.

Different strokes, I guess.

I have got so many shows on the DVR that I think it will take most of the day to watch them, to get ready for another barrage of them to go onto the DVR tonight!

And I read that the WB is moving SUPERNATURAL from Tuesdays to Thursdays at 9 after SMALLVILLE starting in (I think) mid-March which will be yet another show to be either watched or recorded.

And I guess those of you who are fans of COMMANDER IN CHIEF saw that ABC is putting the show on hold to debut a new comedy series (SONS and DAUGHTERS) in the slot. COMMANDER will return in mid-April to play its four remaining shows. Whether it's renewed for next season is up in the air right now. The network has not been happy with the steady ratings erosion that the show has experienced during the season.

Happy B'Day to Iris!

Being in the film business, I'm not in the habit of giving away potentially good ideas.  So I won't say which books I think should be filmed.  You never know...I may get around to adapting them some day.

Good Morning!

Ah, sleep.  :)  I believe last night was my first full eight hours of sleep since sometime last week.  And I believe I shall spend most of today puttering around the house taking care of various things that need to be taken care of - including the "Big Sort" of the stuff I want to bring back to NYC.

Sounds fun, eh?

Mystery author Sue Grafton has said she will never allow her Kinsey Milhone series of alphabet mysteries to be filmed either for the movies or television.

But if she did, I'd love to see M IS FOR MALICE filmed. It's got a nice crime drama plot and a poignant conclusion that brings the story full circle.

When I first started reading the books, I thought Jamie Lee Curtis would make a fine Kinsey. Now, perhaps Sandra Bullock or even Cameron Diaz.

From last night's late night posts...

DR DakotaCelt - Most of the Broadway houses have Assisted Listening Systems/Devices available for their patrons.  Heck, I even know some people who are not HOH who get the headsets in order to hear the show better.

A couple of years back, there was an initiative to have more signed performances, but I haven't heard much about it lately (pardon the bad pun).  However, I believe some of the smaller theatres that have subscription series do designate a performance or two throughout the run for Hearing Impaired (captioning) and/or Visually Impaired (audio description) audience members.  You would probably need to contact the box office for each theatre for that info rather than Telecharge, TicketMaster, etc.

I'm sitting here patiently waiting for the UPS truck to arrive. An Ebay item I won is scheduled to be delivered today, but one never knows when the truck will appear.

As for the Topic of the Day...

As of this point, "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay" is still in pre-production.  Stephen Daldry is slated to direct.

*And as soon as I finished reading the book - well, even as I was reading it - I thought it would make a wonderful movie.

I've always wanted to see "Catcher In the Rye" on the big screen too.  -Although, I think there was a feeble attempt at it a few years ago with something called, "Chasing Holden".

And I would love to see the three novels by Jack Finney that appear in the collection "Three By Finney" made into movies:

"The Woodrow Wilson Dime" - A great time-travelling tale.
"Marion's Wall" - This was the basis for the movie "Maxie", and, alas, the movie bears only a slight resemblance to the source material.
"The Night People" - It would provide a wonderful opportunity to showcase the city of San Francisco.

Good morning, fellow Dear Readers. I'm not quite sure what I'll do today. Perhaps I'll plant some catnip in the herb garden. That should be fun.  Maybe not.

How 'do, all?

I agree that "Kavalier and Clay" will make a great film. I'm looking forward to it when it finally happens.

I would have said "A Million Little Pieces" would have been a good choice, but considering the discomfort I had just READING some of the chapters, I can't imagine seeing it. Not to mention the recent scandal surrounding the book - I doubt that any studio would touch it as a potential property now.

Last night's re-run of "Lost":

SPOILER

SPOILER

(And yes, for anyone who never saw the episode, and recorded it to watch later, this would be a spoiler, of sorts).

As disappointed as I was that they repeated an episode, I was totally delighted to see this one again.  Hurley's backstory is wonderful...and Hurley, himself, is an intriguing character not lately given much to do.  I loved that last scene when Hurley revealed his secret to Charley, who then refused to take him seriously.

Does anyone here know anything about how to import a MIDI file into a powerpoint presentation?
