British "Pop" favourites:

From The Early 70's:
Elton John "Your Song", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road"
Paul McCartney "Band On the Run"
Rod Stewart  "Maggie May
Moody Blues "Nights in White Satin"

I thought they were later in the 70s... I knew Moody Blues were Brits becuase Justin Hayward was also involved in another group, Ultravox.

Love Paul McCartney and Rod Stewart and both are fine singers...

Has anyone listened to the American Songbook cd yet?

British "Pop" favourites:
Dusty Springfield  "Son Of a Preacher Man", "Going Back"
Petula Clark "Romeo"
Cilla Black "Alfie" and You're My World
Lulu  "Oh Me Oh My"
Sandie Shaw:  "Girl Don't Come",  "Tomorrow"
Helen Shapiro:  "No Trespassing" "Look who It IS"

Craig Douglas "Time"
Cliff Richard "Constantly"
Marty Wilde  "Abergavenny"
Billy J Kramer "Boys Cry"  and "Little Children"
Kathy Kirby" "Dance on", "Secret Love"
Julie Rogers "The Wedding"
Procol Harum: "A Whiter Shade Of Pale"

[/qoute]

I have heard a few of the tunes that Tomovoz has listed.. Dusty Springfield was British?

Sorry to be so ignorant but when you are a little kid as I was at this time, one tends to rebel and refuse to listen to what your parents like....  Also a lot of ND stations were country at that time....

Oh dear, I've been errant, truant, and otherwise AWOL, but not totally by choice. Work is a bear, and that's where I catch up. I know I could poke by and post, but I like to catch up.  I haven't even been near my computer much at home though.

Danise, best of health vibes to you!!! We miss you!

I hope you get help. LOL .  I think there are support groups. I'd rather hear Willie Nelson's efforts
at the same material.

Try listening to Harry Nilsson's versions instead.

"Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying"  Great choice.
Also, MBarnum with The Tremeloes. My fave is "Silence is Golden"

Freddie and the Dreamers, "I'm Telling You Now"
Zombies "Time of the Season"
Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich: "The Legend of Xanadu"
Badfinger: "Day After Day" That's a brilliant song...

Did not know that...

The only Canadian artists I know of fairly well are Bryan Adams, Jan Arden, Loreena McKennit, Ashley MacIsaac, Natalie MacMaster, Michelle Shocked, Laura McDonald, Bare Naked Ladies, Gordon Lightfoot, Anne Murray....

They are all later 70s to today...

Winnipeg it seems.
Clap Hands For the Wolfman and for Rodzinski.  The Albert Flasher of HHW.  Well maybe not.

Forgot all about the Bachman Turner Overdrive Connection too.. I'm losing it.

Forgot to list Dave Dee and friends.. "Bent It" was a terrific song too.  Also loved much of the Hollies material. (Great Band in concert).  Love "Stop Stop Stop" and "Bus Stop" is a cute story song.

Manfred Mann's pop stuff was also great as was the Paul Jones material.

I don't know from 60s or 70s British groups...or British groups, really. ::) I remember in the mid-1970s, my parents had an album of songs by British groups like (The?) Herman's Hermits, but I don't remember which songs were sung by which groups.  Actually, Herman's Hermits is the only group that I can remember from that album and the only song that I can remember is "Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter."

Another two big 70s Brit hits I loved:
"Billy Don't Be A Hero" by Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods
and
"The Night Chicago Died" by Paper Lace

"Gasoline Alley Bred" is excellent too.

Lesser known song "I'm Down" has brilliant lyrics with which I can identify very strongly. (Mr Nash's autobiographical stuff with C,S & N is also very interesting).

I meant to list that song, George. My sister married into the Brown name, and so I can sing that song to her about my nieces. Actually two of my sisters married guys named Brown, but unrelated guys. The other sis has a boy, no girls.

Other Hermits goodies for me: "I'm Into Something Good" and "No Milk Today"

Glad you are feeling better.

It was the LitterPurrfect we used for close to a year before realizing the negative effects of it.

I liked the LitterPurrfect.  I may have to take the Scoop Away back, though!  It says right on the bucket "99.9% Dust Free," but even just scooping out the litter produces so much dust that it's starting to bother me!  And I've only had it a few days! :P

Paul Anka
The Diamonds
Four Lads

All from Canada but perhaps more associated with late fifties/early sixties music.
