THE LATE, LATE SHOW
« on: March 11, 2006, 02:30:12 AM »

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were late, late, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're watching The Late, Late Show right now, and then they'll be home directly.

My favorite songs of Betty and Adolph include:

Long Before I Knew You- from Bells Are Ringing
                        and
I Know About Love- from Do Re Mi, especially Brian Stokes Mitchell's rendition on the Encores! revival recording.

BK - I think I see what George was talking about re the splash page at kritzerland.com.  On my Internet Explorer, it's absolutely correct (with STAGE, Spirtas and Starfighter, in that order), and I was able to order the new CD's from there.  But on Skip's Road Runner Safari the splash page still comes up the old way.

Back to Comden and Green songs- I do have  a special affinity for "What New At the Zoo" from DO-RE-MI, and find myself humming it at the oddest moments.  :)

Good morning, all!  And hello to you, DR TCB.  What are you doing up so early?  Yes, the song title is "It Depends on What You Pay."  I couldn't think of it last night.

Today, I'm having coffee with a friend of DR Panni who made the trek from Canada to see Paul Sorvino in THE MOST HAPPY FELLA, which sounds poorly directed from some postings on CastRecL.  I'm looking forward to meeting him.

This morning, I've got Act One Toyland notes to revise.  I've been putting off the revisions, but I was so happy with the revised Edit notes that I'm ready to jump in.

TOD:  What's New at the Zoo? (me, too DR FJL!)
         All of ON THE TOWN
         All of WONDERFUL TOWN
         All of TWENTIETH CENTURY
Thanks a Lot But No Thanks

Good morning, elmore!  I have no idea why I am up, except that Angel had a little accident in the den this morning that needed cleaning and scrubbing.

Well, pussy problems are certainly something you and DR MBarnum have in common.  It is good to see you up and about this early.

Last night I met up with Rodzinski for some dinner at the Brooklyn Diner- not in Brooklyn- I had meatloaf with cheesy polenta topped with gorgonzola cheese and marinara sauce, yum!  We split a piece of double chocolate pudding pie for dessert.  But it doesn't count because we didn't finish it.

Afterwards, we went to Borders were I picked out my Oscar win CD, a collection of Linda Ronstadt's greatest hits.

We once attended a band performance that a friend of ours was playing in.  It was a Linda Rondstadt cover band.  I decided then and there that some day I would have my own Linda Rondstadt cover band.

I have a paper due in a week and a half.  I should really start working on it now, or maybe clean the apartment.  But I think I'm just going to continue to sit here in my pj's like so much fish.

Good morning all.

Sorry to have been missing these past couple of days.

Yesterday I gave Bear his usual morning thyroid pill in one of those little sausages.  I always hide it in one half so both he and Brandi were treated equal—she always got the other half.

I went to the door to call her for hers and she didn’t come.  I went to look for her and found that to my horror, she had died sometime in the night in her doghouse. There were no bite marks, no sign of a fight or anything; she was just on her side.

I never knew Brandi’s exact age but since she was totally grown up when we got her from the shelter I can only guess she was at least as old as Bear (going on 10) or maybe a year or older.

I never really posted about Brandi because she never really wanted to be bothered with anyone.  I had been told when we got her that she had been badly abused and didn’t like people—one reason they wouldn’t have let her be adopted by anyone with kids.  She also suffered from stomach problems.  She would let you know she needed to go out but if you didn’t get up right then and let her, well you knew what would happen.

That’s why she stayed outside overnight.  I couldn’t keep getting up and down with her every hour or so to let her out.  When she did go, it looked like a cow patty and it was always all over the yard.  I was forever cleaning it up or the back yard was a “mine field”.

Many people told me I should have just had her put down but she was a happy dog.  She sure loved Bear and they would play together so I know she wasn’t in any pain—she just did her own thing and didn’t want to be bothered.

It took years but finely she would come and lay her head on my lap for me to pet her.  And she loved to go for walks.

I will miss her very much.  It was such a shock.  Nothing was wrong the night before.  She went out like usual—I didn’t hear anything.  I just got the next morning and she was gone.   :'(

It took me awhile to dig her grave and I hope I didn’t hurt myself doing so.  I am not supposed to do any digging.  My stomach swelled up last night and I’m in a bit of pain today but it had to be done.

If that wasn’t enough, the stupid satellite is on the blink.  I can’t get a signal.  I did all the usual things—checked all the connections, reset it, checked to make sure it wasn’t blocked by a tree, cleaned the dish itself off but nothing.  I called for a repair man and we ran though a bunch a tests but he can’t come until Tuesday and it will be $70.00 just for him to pull up to the door.  He did find that it is the dish itself not the receiver.

I’m going to go today and try and get a new LND or whatever that thing that points to the dish.  If I can change it out that might solve my problem and save some money.

BTW, the dish is on a pole in yard--not on the roof or I wouldn't try it.

Sorry to be so long winded.  It’s been an upsetting couple of days.

As for Comden & Green Songs...

To borrow a page from DR elmore's book - well, post...

On the Town
Wonderful Town - Although I've always found "Swing!" kind of on the dull side, but I think that may have to do more with Bernstein's music and the play on the whole Greenwich club scene at the time.  I like the music and the lyrics, just not the number.  I've always felt it needed to be more, well, Swing-y.
On the  Twentieth Century - My favorite number is the Entr'Acte, "Life Is Like A Train".

-Is that "New York Musicals of Comden & Green" book still available?  Worth checking out.  Lots of great photos.  Hmm... Guess I'll dig my copy out later.  -Well, I know exactly where it is right now, so I won't exactly have to dig - just take it off the shelf.

I know you did - but did you unplug your receiver?  Or is that what you meant by resetting it?

Also....did you take your "card" out of the receiver and then put it back in?

Thank you, JRand for the vibes.

Yes, I did all of that.  It goes through the whole set up process but when it trys to get information from the satellite, it can't get a signal.  Thats why the guy told me it must be outside on the dish that has the problem.
