It is very coldish outside...very much coldish for Oakland CA, that is.  It's probably 44 or 45 degrees...but it's overcast and breezy.

I did manage to watch "Weekend in Havana" and "Lady and the Tramp" today.  The former was a whole lot of fun, fun, fun.

"Lady and the Tramp" is just as heartwarming and enjoyable as it was when I saw it as a wee lad.

And that is the pre-requisite, you see, for enjoying it for the heartwarming "classic" that it is.

One must see it as a wee lad or lassie.

If one is a twee lad or lassie, one is severely dissatisified with much life has to offer.  One can become bilious and overwrought about the lease of thigns.

I've also managed to pay a few bills today.

AND, I've won a couple of photos on EBay I never imagined I'd see there, much less win.

I'm a great fan of the late Roger Edens...the true "genius" in the Freed Unit at MGM.  And every now and again I enter his name and press "Search" at eBay to see if anything at all might find its way into the marketplace.

Recently, two photos came to light -- one of Edens rehearsing Eleanor Powell at piano for "Born to Dance."

The other is of MGM conductor Georgie Stoll conducting in the background with Judy Garland discussing music with Edens for "Presenting Lily Mars".

Won 'em both, I did.  And I'm as pleased as punch.  If I could be any prouder, I'd pop my buttons!

I, too, am sorry to read about Maureen Stapleton.

She gave a magnificent performance as Inez Guerrero in "Airport"...one that is heartbreaking and real.

*Alas, I don't find the winners of the first season of "The Next Food Network Star" all that winning.  They're OK, their program is OK, but, again, it's all just OK.  -And I'm guessing that maybe the Food Network thinks it just OK too since the program is sort of buried in their schedule, and the promotion for it has been minimal.  -At least in my viewing.

I think that was part of the LOL. Sort of a where did this come from, I hadn't heard of it before. That and I had this mental image of American Idol contestants in the kitchen...scary thought

I agree completely about Maureen Stapleton.  What a brilliant performance in a film that is not remembered for its dramatic dialogue or heartfelt acting.  The scene at the end of the film where she is apoligizing to these perfect strangers for what her husband has done to them, still lingers in my mind.

I was outraged when she didn't win the Oscar that year. I never felt that Marisa Tomei deserved that award.

Greetings from the new digs!  TCB, did you know this place has a wireless connection?  My laptop found it as soon as I opened my computer.  

I ended up coming home sick today, two days of moving with a cold and an ear infection took their toll.  I tried to go to work this morning, but after two hours of shivering, aching, coughing, and sneezing, I begged off and came home.  I slept from 12 to 4, and I feel a bit better.  Still achy and tired, but I can breathe a bit more.  Time for more drugs..

MRS. PARKER AND THE VICIOUS CIRCLE is a VERY long movie. I had forgotten how long it actually is, and Jennifer Jason Leigh's moaning, mumbling accent in the movie slows things to a crawl.

A MURDER SHE WROTE rerun guest starred the late Anita Morris who looked ravishing in this. It must have been one of her last performances.

The pilot episode of THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE didn't make me laugh at all. I recorded the second episode at 9:30 (haven't watched it), but I am truly hoping it's funnier than the pilot.

Wasn't there an episode with Allison's brother last season where we found out he didn't acknowledge his psychic gift? (Had to do with knowing who was going to die when he was overseas in the Army.) My memory of it is very vague.



Anyway, I was fooled by the ghost for most of the episode. Should have remembered how THE SIXTH SENSE worked (sp[spoiler)













when everyone kept looking past Bruce Willis. But it just didn't dawn on me that was what was happening. I was sure Michael was being played by the con men/woman.

Remember the brouhaha this past winter over the malware that Sony had included in a number of its CD releases?  The initial outcome of that mess was that Sony offered to replace the bad CDs with new copies that did not include the malware.  I had purchased Cyndi Lauper's The Body Acoustic and was able to exchange it in a relatively sweat-free process.

Well, the fun didn't stop there.  Evidently, there was a class action suit filed against Sony, and as a result I've been informed that I am entitled to either a $7.50 payment and a free album download or three free album downloads!

Now, that's what I call stickin' it to the corporation!
