A friend of mine drowned in a bowl of muesli,

a strong currant pulled him in.

I guess turtle is the most exotic thing I've even eaten.

I did get my shipping notices from Amazon yesterday, so I'll be getting BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN and THE NUN'S STORY and the Dietrich and Mae West collections tomorrow. Looking forward to them all!

Well, time to get lunch prepared. I'm having barbecued chicken today. Haven't had it in a long time and looking forward to it.

I don't think I am that adverterous when it comes to food. But when it comes to the TOD I would have to say snails (Escargot)
Escargot is a terrible waste of good garlic.

Yes, I've been T and E.  I've been working, and grandladsitting, and clogged up with tree allergies.

Good Morning!  Good Afternoon!

I'm up.  I'm here...  I let myself sleep in today...  And now I believe I feel a cold coming on... :-\

I just had my oatmeal (with dried cranberries and a generous dash of cinnamon), and once I get myself cleaned up, I'm hoping the sniffles will abate.  In the meantime, I've taken a mild OTC pain/cold reliever.  And now...

As for the Topic of the Day...

I don't think I've ever fixed anything strange...

However, there are a couple of traditional Filipino dishes that are definitely "strange" - Is that part of the pig really edible?  I don't believe I ever tried dinuguan, and just the sight and "concept" of balut turns my stomach.  -And, thus, I will refrain from describing them here.

As for strange foods I have eaten...  There's usually one or two small dishes among the panchan when I go to a Korean restaurant that I'm not familiar with, but usually end up liking.  However, anything involving small dried fishes is usually not to my liking.

And I still have to get used to eating the bones when I eat canned/tinned anchovies.  And there's also a Greek meze, marides skordalia, which is comprised of deep-fried smelt with a garlic paste.  The smelts are fried at a high enough temperature in order to make the bones "edible".

Good morning/afternoon.

TOD - I've eaten food all my life that people might consider strange. When I was a kid in Hungary, calves (calf's?) brain was considered a delicacy. I wouldn't eat it now, but liked it back then. And blood sausage. And frog (tastes like chicken). And there are certain foods for which I don't know the English names. Beef marrow? Yummy.  ...And to think that I was a vegetarian for years!

Very wet here, as has already been reported. Mud slides on Laurel Canyon. Thanks to my addled brain, I can avoid that messy route. I was supposed to go to something tonight which would have had me crossing Laurel, but I double-booked by accident. So now I only have to cross the street to make my dinner engagement. I love it when you don't have to drive! Rare in this town. I'm going to be dining at a little French place that I pass every morning on my walk, but have never tried. It was suggested by my dinner companion and I'm excited to try it out!

I have the TV on in the BG as I write this. The weather woman just said, "Boy, is it ever wet out there." Impressive when they get technical.

Now to Coffee and work.

My Hungarian grandfather used to make Ka-pu-sta (I am spelling phonetically here I have no idea of the spelling)  which was pigs knuckles slow cooked for hours in a big pot with sauerkraut and rice and caraway seeds, then served in a big bowl with a dollop of sourcream.... is that strange?  I make a version of it now that uses center cut porkchops and which I cook in the oven... but it still tastes wonderful!!

The strangest thing I have fixed myself would be beef tongue.

It may look gross but, having grown up with this, I don't think of it as strange.  ;D My parents always included sliced tongue when ordering from the deli and my mother cooked it whole.  She took great delight in serving the tongue before slicing it, letting us kids scream how horrible it was and we would never eat it, then gobbling it down once it was sliced.

Did someone tell this joke yesterday:

This guy walks into Artie's deli.  He asks:  What's the specialty of the day?  The waiter says:  We have tongue, delicious tongue.  The guy says:  Nah, I don't want anything that comes from a cow's mouth, gimme a couple of hard-boiled eggs.

Or this one, also relating to today's TOD:

There was once a snail who always dreamed of becoming a race-car driver. One day he learned that his uncle had died and left him a large amount of money! Now his dream could be realized! He bought himself a race car, souped it up, and then painted large red letter S's all over it.

When he was at his first race, a friend of his asked why had had painted his car that way. "Simple," the snail replied. "When people see me and my race car go zooming down the track, I want them all to exclaim, `Look at that S-car go!'"

I think my first meal in NY was sweet and sour tongue and matzah ball soup.

It was very tasty!

Sounds like some form of "Káposzta" that you're spelling out. The closest I can think of is "Töltött Káposzta" (Stuffed Cabbage). That's not the dish your described, but close. Below is a recipe.

http://www.kinga.com/kaposzta.html

Jane - I used to love tongue (don't go there!) as well.

(Vixmom - I just went back and checked out that site. it seems to have lots of Hungarian recipes and Links.

DR Jose - you should check it out, as well!)

I may have missed this if anyone else here posted it, but did you know?

On Wednesday of this week, at two minutes and three seconds after 1:00 in the morning, the time and date will be:

01:02:03 04/05/06

That won't ever happen again ever.    ( At least not until 2106 )

I am home today.  I am feeling odd.

I don't quite know how to explain it.

I feel...a bit lightheaded...a bit off-balance.  But I feel that way even in bed...so....

 ;)

But if you want a competition, I'm more than up to the challenge!
