Title: THE IMPRESSIONISTS
Post by: bk on March 17, 2020, 12:31:40 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were impressionistic like Debussy's music, and now it is time for you to post until Debussy's cows come home.

Here is a picture of an actual dried four-leaf clover that's been hanging in my kitchen for a few years.  A former co-worker had it and gave it to me when she retired. :)

Well, I'm going to go to bed and attempt to get up at a reasonable time.  I can't sleep in for two weeks (or more) and then be able to get to work on time once we start up again, so I'll try to keep some semblance of a normal schedule..."try" being the operative word. ;)

Have a good day, all!

Annabelle is congested again, and it's breaking my heart that I cannot afford a vet visit.  On top of that. the money I had for Thatch's echocardiogram is being eaten away by this quarantine.  I never, ever thought I'd end up in such a quagmire in my old age.

Kitty feeding is done, a delicious slice of 10,985-grain toast has been eaten, and I’m enjoying a cup of tea in the recliner before getting myself moving. Today, don’tcha know, is cooking day. Corned beef, baby. And then cabbage, potatoes, and carrots.

Oh, and ....... SNOW!

We got snow! Just a thin covering that only stuck to grass and some trees. But how utterly disorienting! It’s like...the beginning of winter or something. We haven’t seen snow since nearly January.

I am trying to prepare myself for the fact that ANYTHING GOES will not be happening in June.....I do not think planning auditions in four weeks is practical at this time.

We will be having a meeting soon.

My thought is that we cancel our season.....first time in 59 years....because SELLING season tickets and then NOT having a season would be awful publicity.....but canceling and then opening big for our 60th season would be an event.

We shall see what transpires......

St. Patrick's Day greetings!  Richard and I are going to venture out today.  We have 3 stops to make, but only one will require getting out of the car and entering a place of business.  We'll go into Staples, but utilize curbside pick-up at Kroger (I placed an online order Sunday evening) and at Bravo Italian Cucina for salad and breadsticks to accompany the spaghetti I'm making for dinner.

I got home from my trip and immediately took a hot bath.  Everything went smoothly until I got to Columbus Circle.  I lost my balance stepping off the curb and fell backward onto the sidewalk.  A very kind youngish gentleman with a foreign accent helped me up by the time the taxi driver had come to my rescue.  I treaded very delicately after that.

So, because of the rain, I ended up with a completely wet backside from the fall and on my way home from the doctor I got more wet waiting for a bus at 57th Street.  I thought the hot bath would help.

The corned beef is simmering and should be done cooking in three more hours or so. I bought four packages of about 2.5 pounds each (I insist on planning for leftovers) and I’ve got five pounds each in two pots for easier handling.

The cabbage, potatoes, and carrots are cut and sitting ready in pots of cold water. Soda bread is ready to slice, and the Irish butter is thawing to room temperature.

A load of laundry is in the washer, and I’m taking a good break ketchuping in the recliner.

You know what's amusing about Facebook (which I haven't visited other than to check my page) - people only share the doom and gloom stories.  When someone dares to share an even-keeled report saying it will get better sooner than later, everyone screams "FAKE" even though most of what's being shared is pure conjecture.  It's almost as if no one wants to hear anything positive.  It's a real problem and it feels really good not to have to see all that media and social media driven panic and hysteria.   We will survive.

Interesting item from a well-respected doctor at UCLA - Advice from UCLA Emergency Department physician, and a most dear and extraordinary person, Dr. Mark Morocco.

"Well social media friends, I'm out. This is a storm, not a hurricane -- you can ride it out: stay inside, be kind and calm to each other, use common sense and stay away from doctor's offices and Emergency departments UNLESS YOU ARE 'can't get out of bed' sick. Fever? Cough? Sore throat? Body aches? Mask and self isolate. Stay at home. Ride it out with tylenol or motrin and plenty of fluids. Call your doctor before you call 911 or leave the house when sick. Use the time positively to gather and love those you live with. If you live alone, call a neighbor or friend daily for 'wellness checks.' RIDE IT OUT while we work it out as far away from you as you can be. BE KIND, BE SMART, BE PATIENT. We appreciate you thinking of us in the ED, and know that we are thinking of you, and appreciate you're doing your part by staying in and staying away. See you on the other side."

I think more and more should do exactly what he and I have done - stay away from social media AND any media that is hell bent on causing panic and hysteria, which they do because that's what they do - clicks and ratings.  They don't care about anything else.

Just sent this eBlast:

Hello, wonderful and loyal customers.  As much as it pains me to have to do this, we have to take a bit of a break due to what's happening in the world.  It will get better and hopefully sooner than later.  This will, of course, delay shipping - I think we've only been late on shipping by a few days once since we opened our doors.  Pressing plants are down and so are the printers, but our shipping department (well, our shipping person) needs to stay healthy and safe, too.  We realize that it's irritating on certain levels, but we hope you'll all be patient and understanding, as we all must be right now.

We're trying to at least get the last of our orders out that we have in stock, but that will stop after today.  It's hard to predict how long this will go on, but I'm a cockeyed optimist and keeping positive thoughts, always.

You can still order CDs and books at this time, which would actually be very helpful to all us labels.  They just won't ship for a couple of weeks.

Please stay safe and look towards the light.  Don't fall prey to panic and hysteria.  Perhaps take a break from Facebook :)

We'll keep you updated and please know how thankful we all are for your loyalty and business.

I wish I preferred the higher percentage.  It is just too bitter for me.

After two days indoors (rain and wind as well as social distancing) I needed to go out for food. I drove over to the salad bar. Business is very slow there now and they've cut their hours. Their business is mostly take-out, but there were maybe five people sitting at the outdoor tables. That surprised me, but I was glad to see it. We all need fresh air.

I must say, the worst of the gloom and doom posters, literally sharing end of the world posts every three seconds, is our very own occasional dear reader Leslie.  I'd been responding to every one of them, but thankfully staying away has saved me considerable aggravation.  That said, I just went to check my page because I'd made the Kritzerland post and of course the first thing that showed up on my feed were three new end of the world posts, including one that everyone should wear masks, after it's been said time and again that they don't do anything unless they're an exact certain pro kind and those are in short supply and the actual medical profession needs them.  I mean honestly.

The one thing that bugs me is that these officials -- and celebrities -- who are telling everyone to stay in and not go to restaurants must have HUGE freezers and pantries. We still need to eat, and we must either purchase our food from supermarkets, which are often sold out, or restaurants. I suspect that said officials don't purchase food themselves. They have wives or partners or staff who do it. People now must go to two or three stores to obtain what they used to get in one trip.

The movie of Motherless Brooklyn is very little like the book, except that the lead character has Tourette’s syndrome. It’s now set in 1959 instead of the 1990s, if I recall correctly, and it has the feel of a New York version of Chinatown.

I can see that. It's not a great movie. But at least Edward Norton has surrounded himself with good people, and the scenes he tries to emulate all come from good movies. If it doesn't all work, it could be worse. I would rather see somebody try to steal from Chinatown or the best of the jazz scenes in Bird than, say, Harlem Nights.

DR JOHN G & DR VIXMOM and other DRs who enjoy chili.....do you like to put corn in your chili?

No. But I don’t hate it. I hate sugar in my chili.

I love brown sugar in mine

That sounds good to me.  I don't like anything hot in my vegetarian chili, must be why I never eat it.

I am now glad I read that endless bio of Robert Moses last year. It’s helping me understand the film version of Motherless Brooklyn. Only the character is called Moses Randolph insteps of Robert Moses.

I was surprised Robert Moses was known outside of the NY metropolitan area I thought he dedicated his life to asphalting Long Island and Manhattan

Successful shopping vibes for DR George!

Thanks, Jeanne!  It actually went pretty easily.  I was really just looking around and decided to get some milk.  There was plenty to get, so I got one half-gallon.  That's it. :)

I watched the rest of Motherless Brooklyn. One last comment: It helped knowing how much Robert Moses hated his family and especially his brother. It made the story in the film a little more understandable.

I looked for stores with senior shopping hours. There were several listed, but none remotely near me. I then went to Ralph's website (I know, they spell it without the apostrophe). It told me that I could pick up my groceries in Indio! That's several hours away! Other Ralph's stores offer pick-up, but not the one near me. I think this must be what DR Ginny described, but the website offers no explanation. (Who proofs this website??)

I, too, find 7 am unfeasible. But for now I'm OK. I just like to know what my options are. I do need to go to Trader Joe's one day, but am dreading it. Ugh!

I saw plenty of milk today but only one brand had non fat which we drink.  I purchased a carton as it had a good expiration date.  I will need more milk to make cream of wheat instead of oatmeal.
