Well, you've read the notes, the notes spoke of assorted biscotti, and now it is time for you to post until the assorted cows come home.

And the word of the day is: UTMOST!

Well, that didn't take long, at all! Literally, less than a minute!

And now, for various comments from yesterday:
Thanks, Jane and Laura and Freddie and Jrand and Singdaw and John! ;D
-
Amazing pictures, John. :(
-
Great pictures of the desserts, the birthday boys, and Yogi, Singdaw!
And I love this picture! ;D

Very sweet stories about Tippi and all the other actors, BK. :)
-
Today, my friend Shelly and I are going to see The Spitfire Grill at Lakewood Playhouse, about a half-hour north of here (it's where TAO performed The HEAD!!! That Wouldn't DIE! a few months ago). I love this show. I have the cast recording (with Liz Callaway!) and I've seen two other productions, both of which were very well done. I don't doubt that this production will be good, too.
-
Loved the food and gathering photos from last night's posts, singdaw.
-
BK, such great Hollywood stories in last night's posts!
-
John G, thanks for posting those photos of the damage in Texas.
-
Good morning, all!
-
Another so-so night of sleep. Too many aching joints and leg pains. Annabelle has returned for the nonce to her princess pillow beside me and abandoned her mountain chalet, where Stella spent several hours. Back in Nov-Dec 2017, when I was having such issues with a semi-feral baby Thatch, DR Laura cazlled it accurately. That little baby, who drove me mad with his behavior, hostility, and continuous health issues, now runs to me when I call his name and wants to sleep as close to me as possible. I never would have guessed that.
-
BK. I'm happy your day went well, that you are feeling better, and I hope this progress continues.
-
I saw The Birds at Middetown's Paramount Theatre - what a wondewrful movie house! - on its first day, as I recall dimly. At hjte time I was disappointed since it was so far from its source, a story by Daphne du Maurier, but I've since then come to love it on its own terms. But, boy, is that sequence with the dead man's eyes pecked out still a shocker, just like the dead man in Jaws; they both still give me the jitters.
-
DR George, your story brought back memories of family cookouts and picnics from over 60 years ago. I don't think about my family much, but I was certsinly waxing nostalgic when I read your posts this morning.
-
DR singdaw, Yogi is a cutie! The birthday celebration sounds wonderful, and those desserts are amazing.
-
Amazon Fresh is deloivering a huge order this morning, thanks to that Phantom of the Opera payment, so I must prepare for it.
-
Sunday morning greetings! Quiet day ahead.
-
DR Elmore, the Annabelle and Thatch illustrations are perfection!
-
Good morning, all.
-
I’m still tired. But I slept well.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Eileen Fulton of As the World Turns fame has died. She was 91.
-
Exhausted. I even slept right through the night with no interruptions. I intend to bask in a day of recovery.
-
Eva Perón has entered immortality and so has this production.
-
Now to begin learning all the songs for this student concert two weeks from today.
-
But that's tomorrow, not today. Today is for projects like giving the musical equipment a good cleaning, scanning some color slides for Vintage L.A. on Facebook, shopping for some fun food and drink, and settling down into watching something good or a couple of somethings good this evening.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
And others.

Well, Amazon Fresh arrived in mostly fine fettle: they over-pack the bags so I've got smashed bread and crushed boxes of cereal. To top things off, while I was struggling to get the bags from the hall to my tiny foyer, Stella escaped, got lost in the corridors, and I had to take the walker and go in search of her. I found her on the second floor.

Last night I watched for the first time in maybe 30 years the fantastic 1985 film Dreamchild, with a wonderful Dennis Potter screenplay, about the trip to New York that Alice Liddell Hargreaves took in 1932, at age 80, for the Columbia University centennial celebration of the birth of Lewis Carroll. Her memories center on the fantastic, fierce, often frightening creatures of Wonderland (courtesy of Jim Henson), where both the young Alice and the old lady interact in her memories and her final realization that Carroll's affection was sublimated love. There's a wonderful moment from 1862 when Jane Asher, playing Mrs Liddell, realizes what's going on.
The cast, 72 year-old Coral Browne as Mrs Hargreaves, Ian Holm as Lewis Carroll, Peter Gallagher as a New York reporter, are wonderful, and the film is truly glorious.

Back in 1985, "72 year-old Coral Browne" seemed quite old. Somehow, my perspective on that has changed.
:)

DR Elmore, thanks for the recommendation - I’m going to watch that movie ASAP!

I forgot to mention it's on Amazon Prime.

It's on my list! Thanks, DR elmore3003.

So far, I've slept a whopping non-consecutive four hours.
-
Not good.
-
I tried not taking either Claritin-D or Mucinex-D - apparently not a good idea.
-
Melatonin ain't cutting the damn mustard.
-
Furthermore, I think the potato salad was eaten too late in the evening. It has some spice in it that my body can't tolerate that late and it got into my throat while sleeping causing that burning throat thing when bile comes up. I'm hoping that will go away soon. It's caused a lot of gunk and spitting said gunk up - most disgusting.
-
Whilst up, I placed an order for more Ricola from Amazon same day - should be here between ten and three. I had a couple left, thankfully. I'm sipping 7-Up in hopes that will calm the burning. Ironically, my voice seems okay.
-
I enjoyed MR BK's stories last night very much.
-
Great photos from DR JOHN G and DR singdaw yesterday.
-
DR FREDDIE yes he was very good.
He listened to my directions and followed them. The character is very much like him but he liked my Luggage Theory of acting and understood how to make it work.
I was very pleased with his performance.
-
Guess I'll try for more sleep. Not sure I'll do the mail place today - tomorrow is more likely.
-
Throat burning has calmed down.
-
Skip just got back - his setting of the Lord's Prayer was the musical selection for the Offertory at Rutgers Church on the Upper West Side this morning. It was sung by a college schoolmate of his, Jane Thorngren, who is a NYC Opera leading lady. Skip composed it especially for her.

Earlier I started running at the nose and sneezing (allergies) like crazy, and it wasn't slowing down on its own so I popped my poison of choice (Benadryl) and am just now starting to feel relief. I'm putting off unloading the car till tomorrow. Hell with it. I'll run out and do my little bit of shopping, then I'm settling in for some comfortable eating and drinking and watching and general merriment.
-
DR George, I enjoyed reading more about your day on your property and seeing the pretty photo.
-
From George:
My uncle made a cake (DON'T READ THIS, JANE!) with hazelnuts and chocolate shavings in the batter, and covered in melted chocolate.
It really is sad how people ruin chocolate cakes for me ;D It sounds yummy.
-
Oh, the photo is not what I expected though it still looks delicious.
-
George, nice photo of you cooking.
-
The potato looks good, except for the bacon part.
-
What did your niece eat?
-
From Ginny:
That cake looks better than Ina’s brownies, and I’m not particularly fond of hazelnuts.
;D
-
DR Laura, cherry mango muffins sound good except for the fact that I don't care for mangos. Many people do.
-
From DR Jrand:
Well the final performance of The Cemetery Club is on the boards headed for intermission.
A very nice crowd - the cast is sad to move along....and it has been a lot of fun. And each of them did meet my expectations.
So I await the news to see if we get SEVEN standing ovations in seven performances....I shall know in 90 minutes are so.
Congratulations on the cast meeting your expectations!
-
From Jrand:
During the curtain speech we ask everyone to silence or turn off their electronics.
A man raised his hand and asked: "I have pacemaker - do I have to turn that off?"
So I said: "No - as long as you don't use it to make a phone call or take a photograph."
The audience thought it was most amusing. I felt like MR BK.
:D
-
From DR John:
I drove through a tiny area that had been impacted by the flooding. Trees were knocked down and each fence post on both sides of the road was covered in debris. The water was higher than normal, but it wasn’t moving faster than normal.
Thanks for the report.
-
John, I'm glad you agree regarding the best brownies.
-
From Singdaw:
I really can't get my mind around the damage and destruction in Texas.
I still can't get my mind around NOT having an emergency alarm system in an area known for flash floods.
-
DR Singdaw I enjoyed your photos from last night.
-
DR Rodzinski, I enjoyed reading about your day at the game, especially the fun spoofs :)
-
Bruce, I enjoyed reading your memories.
-
Thanks for sharing those memories, BK. Your Tippi Hedren story resonates so much more now that I've seen both of these great movies.
-
DR George, your story brought back memories of family cookouts and picnics from over 60 years ago. I don't think about my family much, but I was certsinly waxing nostalgic when I read your posts this morning.
It was my pleasure, Larry. :)

In view of recent events....I will ask.....what is your favorite Connie Francis song? Did you own any of her 45s or LPs? The second part is of course just for DRs of a certain age. I could never figure out "hop in our jalopy to a drive in movie" for a long time....

From George:

My mom was going to get a copy of the recipe. I'm sure the hazelnuts can either be replaced with something to your liking or even left out.

What do you use to scan slides?
My trusty old flatbed Canon scanner, the CanoScan 9000F, which includes attachments for scanning 35mm film strips (including negatives) and mounted 35mm slides.
I lose a LITTLE something in color fidelity on certain things, but it's of such a subtle nature that you only see it when comparing with the original side by side. But this scanner has been a godsend. It'll be here on my desk until the day it departs the earth, which I hope won't be any time soon.

Hot as fresh milk out there.
And, of course, once again, humid as all HELL.

AccuWeather says: 88 degrees, RealFeel 99.

No more sleep yet. Burning throat is gone, thankfully.

What should today's food be?
-
I've never had House of Pies' chicken pot pie - it does look good in the photo - how would it travel, though?
-
Guess I'll finesse the commentary.
-
Why not?
-
Who's gonna stop me?
-
How can you mess up a chicken pot pie?
-
DR singdaw guess which one kid in my family that was?
-
Sunday Sweet Sunday.
-
I love overcast days right now because the sun isn't BLAZING down....although the humidity is HIGH.
-
DR FREDDIE nice post about Skip and his friend. It's so nice when those things happen.
We have not seen a photo of Skip for awhile.......or the corgis. Not that they should be grouped together in any way.
-
I am waiting for the torrential rains that were supposed to start an hour ago.

Happy Sunday! On the new Broadway Radio Show, Jeff Harnar returns with news of upcoming concert dates & we turn back the clock a year to delve into the archive for an episode from a year ago about his wonderful Sammy Cahn album "The Second Time Around" on PS Classics

I don't believe it.

Apropos of nothing.
I would like a refrigerator with a bottom drawer freezer.
But I can't find one that will fit in the space that my refrigerator occupies.
What kind of refrigerator do you have? Freezer on top....side by side...freeaer drawer on the bottom?
Right now I have....freezer on top.

I just read that Virginia Giuffre, who appears prominently in the Netflix Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich, killed herself this past April. She was the young girl who accused Prince Andrew of rape set up by Ghislaine Maxwell. Prince Andrew called her a prostitute and denied knowing her until this photo of him, Virginia, and Ghislaine showed up.
-
As for me, no luck today!
-
I did get that word the other day ("loris"), but I also wasn't sure of its meaning.
-
DR elmore--the book looks wonderful!
-
DR Jrand74 --
Bottom drawer freezer, and we love it.
It's my first one of those. In places where the fridge was provided, they were always freezer-on-top. When it came time to buy my own, I thought side-by-sides were the way to go. But by the time the last fridge was in its death throes, I'd read people's testimonies about the better efficiencies of bottom-drawer in terms of cold air retention, and that all made sense to me, so that's all I looked at. Totally happy with it.
-
DR Elmore --
Thank you for the surprise in my email just a while ago! This is much appreciated!

I'm not a fan of side-by-sides, at all. My sister had one (still does, but it's in her garage as a second fridge/freezer) and they're very skinny, so it's difficult to store wide items that need to lay flat. :P

There's one corgi now, Liam also known as LeeLee.

Barbara Stanwyck is also one of my favorite actresses. Westerns were my favorite tv shows. I was extremely excited when I found out she was going to star in a tv western. Of course she was still beautiful and wonderful and I loved the show.

Canadian Football.....is that kind of liked American Rugby?
It began as rugby and evolved in parallel to take the form of American-style football, but it retains some elements of rugby. There are more ways to score through the kicking game. In fact the score at one point yesterday was 10-1 which is not a score you could see in US football.
There are three downs instead of four. So the game favors (or should I say favours) smaller, quicker dudes.
-
Prince Andrew called her a prostitute and denied knowing her until this photo of him, Virginia, and Ghislaine showed up.
Speaking of Ghislaine Maxwell, this is an email I felt compelled to write to my brother Macbeth and his wife Lady Macbeth, after seeing the name of Florida attorney David Markus mentioned four times in two months in legal invoices in the estate matters of my parents. (I know, smell me, Princess Grace!)
--------------
Hilary and Joann -
See my email below the other day to prominent Miami attorney David Oscar Markus, whose name is all over the Paul Berman attorney invoice ATTACHED. No one needs to imagine it - There he is, his name David Markus spelled out on page 2 of the invoice, looking out for YOUR interests against me.
David Markus is the attorney for people on the level of Hillary Clinton and - in "headlines" right now - Ghislaine Maxwell -
And an attorney this prominent is also somehow so active in looking out for the interests of - wait for it! - Hilary and Joann Landau??? Against me? In matters relating to the estates of Rosalie and Naftali Landau?
Where is the money and pull that gets an attorney on his level involved in our family matters?
Fred
------------
I'm guessing there's a comedy routine to be found when Mr. David Markus is told Hilary is on the line, and doesn't know until he hears a male voice or a female voice whether it's Hillary Clinton or Hillary Landau!

We have a pull out drawer with three shelves in it. I much prefer a drawer to a top or side freezer. Our side freezer in Ashland was unusually large and it was great.

We have a fridge on the top, freezer on the bottom. But this is not provided by the apartment building; we purchased this ourselves.

I had to look up the lyrics to understand what she was singing. She also refferences dancing The Mash. I remember The Monster Mash but not this song. I don't remember anyone saying lets hop in the jalopy ;D

When I think of Connie Francis I think of Where the Boys Are.

I also remember that she is the reason we have security locks on hotel doors.

I was not a fan. Years later we watched a special with her. At that time she was basically singing Italian songs and I much preferred her singing those to her earlier songs.

There are three downs instead of four. So the game favors (or should I say favours) smaller, quicker dudes.

I had never seen this; from the final episode of The Colbert Report:

-
I had a Connie Francis LP that was sponsored by Brylcreem.
Fave song? Who’s Sorry Now
I did like that one.
-
We have a fridge on the top, freezer on the bottom. But this is not provided by the apartment building; we purchased this ourselves.
Nice fridge.
-
Not a good day today. I feel like I've taken eight steps backward. Filled with endless gunk, nose and throat. I don't get it. Voice was fine this morning and hardly there at all now. Maybe it's from too little sleep, who knows, but I am so over this crap.
-
Had penne in pink sauce with a meatball - it was very good.
-
Think I'll turn on the vaporizer and try to get rid of this gunk a bit.
-
It's been so nice feeling better and now this.
-
(June 18, 2018)
-
Hopefully, it's momentary and will go away - I really needed a good sleep and four hours didn't help.
-
Sorry, BK. Hope it clears up in time for The Big Show.
-
DR JRand, the last time we bought a refrigerator we chose one with a pull-out freezer on the bottom. It makes so much sense to have the things you look for most frequently (non-frozens) at eye level. When the time came to select the appliances for our current home, we chose something very similar.

SIX!

That's a real feel-good photo!

That's so great!
I really loved CNN's Christiane Amanpour stealing her brief section with two well-placed hand movements!

Oh no! Might ordering chicken soup help with your voice at least?

What happened June 18, 2018?
If you mean that Colbert clip, IIRC the show ended in 2014.

SIX!
That's a real feel-good photo!
Glad you like it :)

Good evening.
-
I was busy with a potluck all day at church.
-
I made my requested biscuits and gravy and some pizza beans. One with lots of cheese and one with no cheese for the vegans. The vegans didn't come today.
-
We are now using disposable dishes, so we're not there all afternoon washing dishes. It's nice, but I don't like making all that trash, though.
-
For the morning coffee hour, I made a dozen cherry loaves, a dozen mango loaves, and a dozen round chocolate zucchini muffins.

Kerry’s mixer was busy!
-
Elmore, I'm so glad Thatch has worked out so well. Joshie was just like that. And he turned out to be THE BEST.
-
Indeed, Ginny. And it made pizza dough yesterday while the family was here.
-
They are saying it's supposed to rain in an hour. Uh, sure. They've cried wolf so many times this month.

LOL, maybe then it is for the lactose free.

I agree with you on both counts. It is nice that you are not stuck washing dishes.
-

Yum. Was there a favorite?

Fingers crossed.

I was in the kitchen, so I only saw the empty plate.
-
But I knew round would disappear today because they were chocolate.

From Laura:
“I may put a restriction on them that if they don’t change the name back to the original ‘Washington Redskins,’ and get rid of the ridiculous moniker, ‘Washington Commanders,’ I won’t make a deal for them to build a Stadium in Washington."
::)
"The Washington Commanders' new stadium project requires approval from the Council of the District of Columbia. Specifically, at least seven out of the thirteen council members must vote in favor for the project to move forward..."

DR FREDDIE nice post about Skip and his friend. It's so nice when those things happen.
We have not seen a photo of Skip for awhile.......or the corgis. Not that they should be grouped together in any way.
Jrand, you inspired me to ask - and indeed there were photos at this morning's event. I put this one up just now.

Very nice. Thank you for the photo.
-
Keith also got Wordle in four.
-
I make biscotti sometimes. They aren't very popular, although I love them.
-
Back from a long night of dancing.

Guess I didn't do enough homework. >:(

Just how many hoards do you have attending each Sunday?

But what an exciting link you posted!!!
What was the June 2018 date?
-
Been watching ABC Movies - most are not so good, but when they're good, they're VERY good. Watched a good one called Revenge with Shelly Winters, Bradford Dillman, and Stuart Whitman. Written by Joseph Stefano, screenwriter of Psycho.

That is very special, DR Freddie. Best to Skip!

What was the June 2018 date?
It was in the description under the video on YouTube.
-
I looked up the Rutgers Church's YouTube channel, but their video from this morning did not include any musical portions of the service.
-
I try to learn something new every day.
-
It balances out all of the things I keep forgetting.
-
PAGE EIGHT
-
How does Bigfoot tell time?
-
He looks at his Saskwatch!
-
Good night, friends.
-
And others.
-
I did doze off a couple of times, but only for like ten minutes each.
-
Well, may as well find something else to watch. I am definitely going to bed by twelve-thirty and I'm definitely doing Ny-Quil and hopefully that will get me through the night, sleep-wise.
-

Agreed. Used to watch about four or five mediocre or lousy ones just to get to a great one.
-
Watched five more episodes of Mary H.
-
Beginning to have fun with it.
-
Right now, I'm listening to a disturbing book called Headshot. It's about teen girls in a boxing competition. The winner gets a whole $100. The omniscient narrator lets us into the minds of each girl boxer. Fascinating yet bleak and unsettling. And thankfully short.
-
Good night, all.

Wordle 1,492 4/6

Well, that didn't take long, at all! Literally, less than a minute!
Wow, good for you.
Thanks, Jane!

Thems are some sexy sharks. ;)
-
Finished with my viewing.
-
Must write some damn notes.
-
I've taken both Claritin and Mucinex-Ds.
-
I haven't committed to the Ny-Quil as of yet.
-
We shall see.
-
Let’s see if
-
I can advance us
-
To another page
-
Before my eyes close for the night
-
Today was nice, saw the in-laws
-
Ate some watermelon
-
Took some junk to the dump
-
Read and relaxed a bit
-
Played Mario Kart with the kids
-
9 pages!
-
We’re all the rages!
-
Like Farrah Fawcett-Mages
-
Page nine it is.
-
New notes are written.
-
Where's George - eating some apple pan dowdy?
-
Croque monsieur?
-
I have no clew.
-
Do you?
-
Have a clew?
-
I am so overtired.
-
I'll take a hot shower once the new notes are posted - hopefully, that will relax me and then hopefully I will fall asleep quickly.
-
That's the way I've always heard it should be.
-
What else?
-
Anything?
-
Any revelations?
-
I myself am just sitting here like so much fish.
-
I don't mind.
-
Why I oughta...
-
Okay already.
-
What am I, doing a monologue?
-
Yes, apparently I am.
-
I could sing a ditty?
-
One that's witty.
-
Or maybe pretty.
-
About the city.
-
And the nitty-gritty.
-
One that's itty-bitty.
-
About Walter Mitty.
-
Or a town without pity.
-
New notes are up.
-
Up are new notes.
-
I've seen them.
-
I've read them.
-
I wrote them.
-
All that AND page ten.
