And the word of the day is: WHEEDLE!

Theonlyfirst reference to this word I'd ever come across was:

There were these two, you see
 Wanted her like mad
 One of 'em a Judge
 T'other one his Beadle!
 Every day they'd nudge
 And they'd wheedle!
 But she wouldn't budge
 From her needle
 Too bad
 Pure thing

DR George, you need to get out more! Lorenz Hart used the word in the duet "I Beg Your Pardon" from the 1925 Dearest Enemy:
 I'm sure I beg your pardon;
 I must withdraw my hand;
I don't plan to be wheedled
 So don't misunderstand.

BK, I hope today is a better day and that the casting is finalized.

-
I had a weird Drama Book Shop dream last night; I guess the job still haunts me.

-
TOD:  I guess my favorite sauces these days are  bolognese and vodka sauces.

For potatoes, it's whatever sauce is used for au gratin potatoes.  I've never had au gratin potatoes that I didn't enjoy.
-
				Good morning, all.

What a horrible Double Damn Day for BK. Insurance, corporations, people not doing their jobs. Horrible, all of it.

-
Yes, great news about the casting!

-
				Good morning.

-
				TOD: Turkey gravy.

-
				Notes doubled. Damned.

-
				Feckham Hall does look amusing.

-
The more I think about it, the more I like Blue Moon. And I am thinking about it, which is a rarity for a movie these days.

-
				TOD:

Here‘s an opposite answer. In the last year, I have fallen out of love with pesto. And I don’t like most versions of cream gravy for chicken-fried steak, because most taste of flour, sometimes uncooked flour.
-
				TOD 2:

 The winners
 Creamy horseradish
 Bearnaise
 Green Peppercorn
 Salsa verde
 Bordelaise

I’m sure I will remember more. But the memory goes when you get sauced, it seems.

				I love this story!

Stephen Colbert quietly stepped into a small rescue shelter in New Jersey — with only 48 hours remaining before it would close, and all the dogs inside would be taken away. The bills were unpaid. The owner had given up hope.
But then, the 61-year-old singer — a legend known for his steadfast integrity and strong principles — walked straight to the back, where an 11-year-old Labrador mix named Buddy lay frail and forgotten. He knelt beside him, gently stroking him and whispering words of comfort.
Then, standing up and looking around, he asked, “How many dogs are here?”
 A voice replied, “Thirty-nine.”

Colbert’s voice rang out, calm yet resolute: “All 39 of you deserve a tomorrow.”
The very next day, delivery trucks began arriving one after another — bringing new beds, fresh flooring, medical supplies, food, and toys. Above every kennel, a new sign appeared: “Forever Home — with love from Colbert.”

And Buddy? Colbert adopted him on the spot. He smiled and said, “He’s been waiting too long. Now it’s my turn to be here for him.”
Colbert didn’t just save a shelter. He saved 39 beating hearts, giving them hope, dignity, and a future.
-
				Nice story.

-
Congrats to MR BK on the casting news.

				TOD:

 Alfredo.
-
				From DR George:

Nor have I seen Scrooged with Bill Murray.  Several J&H castmates have castigated me for not having seen Scrooged.
I definately think you should watch it this year.
-
				From Bruce:

I think we may have our cast - we saw two gals for the leading lady - the first we all liked very much. Singing voice is a little operatic for my taste but we can make it work. She's worked with several folks I know, so I'm gonna ask a couple of folks, but she's spunky and fun, which is the key.
This is great, especially after the day you had.

 That's so sweet!
-
				Thank you.  I agree :)

-
I like the Colbert story, but would you call him a singer? Yes, he can sing. But he's a talk show host.

-
Made a chocolate pecan pie. It looks delicious. Will take it to work tomorrow.

-
I'm up, I'm up - probably six and a half hours of sleep.

-
				Zoom soon.

-
I haven't quite committed to the leading lady yet. I've asked a couple of folks about her - heard from one who had her in one class years ago - hard-working, great attitude - so that was nice to hear. Just not crazy about the singing voice, but we have to decide.

-
				Good day, all.

-
Tonight's the last of our two film scene classes, this one on dazzling /spectacular scenes. We got a list of 17 movies to choose from.

-
So we took the opportunity to watch two we'd never seen before: Key Largo and Seven Chances.

-
Looking forward to the discussion tonight! Then it's back to viewing a full feature film in class, vs a collection of scenes.

-
TOD: One of my wife's nicknames for me (usually at restaurants) is "Sauce Boy," so I really can't choose one sauce or even a few. So many sauces, so little time.

-
But I'm glad to hear even a Texan like Dr John G isn't a fan of most cream gravy sauce on chicken-fried steak. That's been my experience but I wondered if that was just a regional thing.

-
OK, maybe a few chicken sauces that we make at home: a lemon / garlic / white wine sauce for chicken Scarpiello from Pierre Franey; the tomato sauce in chicken cacciatore; the paprika sauce in chicken paprikash; a Southwestern bacon / tomato / onion / chili sauce from James Beard; and a variety of mushroom sauces, usually involving porcini, from Marcella Hazan.

I love anything by Buster Keaton. What did you think of it?
-
I’m stirring from a nap. It got into the 40s last night, so today is the long pants day (except for work) in ages.

-
I even had to use the comforter while napping.

-
				I need to stir, though.

I love Key Largo.  Not remembering Seven Chances I watched the trailer.  I probably saw it when I was young.

I love anything by Buster Keaton. What did you think of it?

We loved it! It's hard to narrow down the "dazzling scene" but I think my wife is going to go with the football game, which got the biggest laughs in our house.
-
I'll be doing Key Largo and will pick the hurricane scene. Usually the obvious choice is the right one in this class.

Watching an old Jack Webb-produced show I've never seen - The D.A. with Robert Conrad and his twin William Conrad. :) Not that good, but I love the guest stars they get - and, of course, all the location footage is close to Universal. Right now, they're at Moorpark Pharmacy a block west of Tujunga on Moorpark - that was there for thirty years before going out of business in the nineties. I remember it well, right near the classic taco place on Tujunga and Moorpark that had to move down the street after fifty years of being there.

I remember vividly sitting with Lauren Bacall in her favorite Chinese restaurant while we had her favorite appetizers while waiting for Brent Barrett to join us after Chicago - she was so charming and funny and I got great stories about Bogart. I really adored her and she was a dream to work with in the studio, and I will never forgive the idiots at Varese for not letting me do a solo album with her - she wanted it so bad and I knew we could do something that would really surprise people. And I'd convinced her that that final track had to be As Time Goes By - she wasn't sure at first, but boy did she embrace it ultimately. And then all those obsequious idiots trying to kiss the owner's skinny, ugly behind would not support it. Same with Ann Miller, same with Nancy Sinatra. At that moment in time, I hated them all thoroughly and hated Chris Kuchler for stoking it. And, of course, I was history a nine months later, when he broke his promise to me of having a job forever.

I hope he's sitting at home miserable because that is the karma he so deserves and so do the little boys who kissed his ugly behind. They know who they are.

The world deprived of a Lauren Bacall solo album. And for what?

It's so easy to shoot something down, so much harder to bring great things into the world. That would have been wonderful.
-
The boulders scene is Seven Chances was indeed Mick's choice. But we got him to start earlier so we could also see the football scene, which he didn't remember (it's much shorter).

-
Alas he misplaced the disc that had his selected scene from Key Largo on it, so we won't know what that was.

 Hopefully, it's a true story!

 (Colbert isn't a singer.)

Wasn’t gonna say anything but it has the ring of AI fantasy.

It does...the picture certainly is AI generated, but I still want to believe that the story is true!
