TOD:

Whatever is before me.

I’ve been liking peach (Dad’s favorite) a lit lately. In Italy, pistachio gelato is belissima. Coffee with or without chocolate is also heavenly.

T.O.D.

I love ice cream, particularly the various ones that include some for of chocolate.

My father was a big fan of Rocky Road.  He'd buy a gallon, then hide it at the bottom of our large freezer, so nobody else would eat it.

Didn't work!

 :D

Back when I was 5, I named my dog Rocky because of Rocky Road.

It was so cold last night that around 9:15 I piled the blankets onto the bed, and by 9:30 the lights were out.   Annabelle and I spent the night buried under the blankets while Thatch slept on top of the comforter.  I folded a corner of that down to cover him so he was sheltered from the breezes. It's currently 20 degrees F outside.

Do you have control over your thermostat or is it pre-set for the entire building?

Never did get around to scaring up any New Orleans-ish food this week. And this year our store didn’t get in any King Cakes. Well, it happens. Oh yes. These things happen.

I had to look up King Cakes.

;D

My mother would hide the Baskin Robbins chocolate ice cream in the back of our freezer for my father and me.  In the front she put larger containers of less expensive, and not as good, ice cream for my sister.  Fortunately it worked.

Years later I hid small containers of Häagen-Dazs inside of another container for Bryan and me.  Keith never noticed-lol   Today he has his ice cream and leaves my Häagen-Dazs alone which is why he is thin and healthy.

DR Vixmom your ice cream would not need hiding as far as I am concerned-lol.  I am soooo fussy.

Ah yes, the T.O.D.

Vanilla. Vanilla. Vanilla. In approximately that order. I also love chocolate, strawberry, coffee, green tea, pistachio, and many others. But a good quality vanilla is what I judge anyone’s ice cream by, and it’s such a favorite that when I indulge in a milkshake or soda, I never seriously consider any other flavor.

Then do you also like Häagen-Dazs vanilla bean ice cream?

Cute.

My problem with Rocky Road are the nuts in them.  I can eat them, I just don't care for them in my sweets.

The Haagen-Dazs vanilla bean is okay, and it's been a long while but I think I preferred the regular vanilla. I'd have to try them both again in a proper A/B testing facility; i.e., my kitchen.

Two ice creams I was absolutely passionate about in the 1980s:  H-D's Peanut Butter Vanilla (it was in a swirl configuration), and a deep, rich chocolate one called Tres Chocolate (I don't know who made it) that I found at Lucky supermarkets in Los Angeles. Both, sadly, are gone with the wind.

DR Ginny, of course, reminds me that Graeters ice creams are wonderful. I had my first sampling of their chocolate chip around 1970.

During the late '70s and early '80s there were still a lot of Howard Johnson's restaurants around. I hadn't been in one in years, but one night a friend took a bunch of us into one for a late snack. I had their hot fudge brownie with vanilla ice cream, and it was the most perfect thing. I later started dropping in to one now and then for that very thing, and always took a couple of pints home with me. I have no doubt that their other flavors were just as wonderful as the vanilla, but I'm afraid I never gave myself the chance to find out.

Stew Leonard's has a vanilla along those lines, with real cream, etc.

Real custards are a treat. I rarely come across it in these here parts, but I've found it to be very popular in the South, at least in the Outer Banks.

I'm up, I'm up - my car alarm went off at noon for reason's unknown - maybe it talked to my iPad alarm, which did not go off at eleven as planned.  So, I shut the alarm off and here I am.  I do think I got me eight or nine hours of sleep.

TOD:

I've always loved ice cream, particularly a combination of chocolate and vanilla. But these days, if I eat it at all, it's the vegan kind made from coconut milk, which is SURPRISINGLY good! Rich and creamy and no fake taste. No dairy, thus no cholesterol. Right up my alley.

Trader Joe sells a chocolate/vanilla/caramel ice cream (NOT vegan) that is to die for, but unless I want to gain ten pounds I have to steer clear.

Everyone knows sleep is important, but most of the articles I see on how to sleep better seem to assume that their suggestions are all doable. What if you have noisy neighbors? What if you live in an apartment and can't control your environment that much? Ugh!

Ear plugs

DR Jeanne have you ever tried a white noise machine?  I am obsessed with mine and put it on when i read or sleep. It blocks out all other noise and is just amazing.

Yes, I have one, but I bought it for the nature sounds, rather than the white noise, which I find annoying. The nature sounds were disappointing. The rain is a deluge, not a nice pitter-patter. I do like the thunder, though. If I'm angry about something I sometimes put it on. Helps to let go of the anger. What works best for me is the portable fan, which I use most nights in warm weather. It drowns out quite a bit of noise without being a problem itself. NOTHING could drown out my noisy former neighbors!

As for ear plugs, I simply can't wear them. I've tried. I'm a side sleeper and they're quite uncomfortable.

You would think that with all the technology someone would come up with a better solution. There are noise absorbers available that hang on the walls, but I know little about them. I do know that noise is a very big problem for many people.

Jrand kindly sent me several CDs several years ago to help me sleep. Now that the worst of the noise has abated I think I'll pull them out and give them another try.
