This morning I checked my bank's website to try to learn why my branch was closed yesterday. I couldn't believe it. ALL the branches near me are "temporarily closed." I called the bank and was told it was due to Covid-19. Really? Covid could go on for a very long time; do they plan to stay closed indefinitely? They have made no decisions as to when to reopen. I understand taking precautions, but this is just ridiculous.
I did some searches. I would say that at least half of the banks on LA's Westside are closed. The Tomato Bank (don't you love the name?), a Japanese bank close to me, merged with another Japanese bank, but they are closing the branch on July 31. I finally found a small bank nearby with reasonable fees (read "no"), but you must make an appointment to come in! I spoke to the branch manager, who was pleasant and seemed sensible. I'll try to go in tomorrow and open an account.
I never, ever imagined that banking would be so difficult!
As for doing business during Covid, I just can't believe they can't find ways to do business.
