Are those Dorati recordings the ones from the Mercury mono years, and are the stereo ones likewise complete? I’m thinking out loud here, I really need to research this.

In the mid-1950s Dorati recorded for Mercury complete recordings of the three Tchaikovsky ballets in beautiful packaging.  Curiously, the Swan Lake, which did get a 2-CD release, was the heavily cut and rearranged version made after Tchaikovsky's death that has become the standard ballet these days.

Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty were recorded absolutely complete. Neither one of these two has got a decent CD release from Mercury

Okay, I know the ones you mean, in the big albums. I had all three, in beautiful condition, and gave them away about ten years ago in a Big Purge.

Oh well. Since I can still play those black things, I'll keep my eye open for them again. Maybe there's a worthwhile digitizing project in my future.

The Dorati Nutcracker is in great stereo. But right this minute I'm listening to Rodzinski's early stereo recording of same on Westminster and it's fantastic.

Worrying was for naught - they forgot to record it :) But I'm so irritated with myself that I even worried about it - I'm so tired of the woke and the cancel culture that has sucked any humor from the world. Well, sorry, without humor what is life? So, in my opinion, these woke warriors who can't abide any joking or humor can, like the new Kevin show coming on AMC, go eff themselves.

Tomorrow afternoon I'm going to see Rear Window at the Bedford Playhouse which I haven't been able to post about in nearly a year and a half. I don't believe it's in 4K, but it's on one of their smaller screens anyway, they'll do a perfect job of presenting it, and I haven't seen it in a theater since a disastrous showing at a Fathom event at an AMC several years ago when they didn't know how to show it un-stretched. Absolutely ghastly. So this will be most gratifying and enjoyable.

I've probably said this before, but I'm a fan of Apple Certified Refurbished products, and I'm about to own my third one.

It just happens that they restocked the 12.9" iPads in their listings today, the very ones I mentioned this morning, and my finger was ready on the trigger because they go fast when they're listed. Mine will be here next Wednesday.

It was high time, because this is what The Fantasticks will be played from. There is no way to make that a page-turning-friendly piece, so my Bluetooth pedal will be taking care of that chore.

The stereo Dorati Nutcracker is not the original recording with the Minneapolis Symphony. It's with the London Symphony, but to confuse the buyer, Mercury used the artwork from the original recording.

Forget what I was ushering for tonight. It’s a children’s production of Swan Lake. It’s about a swan …

Although I've been buying my cars used for many years now, I've been leery of used electronics. I don't really know why. It's good to hear you've had good experiences with them. I'll consider them.

I took this last week as a semi staycation. There was no place I wanted to go, but I needed a break. I indulged in many of my favorite foods, spent less time keeping up with the news (too negative!), and spent more time doing what I like to do and less doing what I think I should do.

Yesterday I resumed a Big Cull, sorting through some books for donation candidates. Sometimes I start a new book, only to find I'm not in the mood for it, then put it aside, intending to return -- then don't. I now have a whole pile of those. There were also a couple books I've been wanting to read, but couldn't find. I knew they were here! I found them. Of course, when you do this you also find a lot of dust -- ugh! And a few surprises: What's that doing here? It's much more orderly now -- and cleaner. But that was just one corner. There's a lot more to go through.
