Aside: in Canada-speak, the phrase “gong show” is commonly used for a fiasco or comic catastrophe, or what we might call a shitshow.

“I went to final dress and it was a gong show.”

Seems appropriate ;D

I got my mother a new digital frame for her birthday (which is today), but had it shipped directly to her, which was a mistake. She is trying, but not the most tech savvy. We are having problems getting it set up remotely.  I should have had it shipped to me and gotten it set up and then sent it to her. Oh, well! We'll sort it out eventually.

Opening night was great fun, but the storm scene that opens Act I was pretty sloppy. People kept jumping entrances, usually chorus but sometimes a principal too. I hope this isn't the performance that gets reviewed - hopefully we have gotten those jitters out of our system.

I expect DR ChasSmith will relate to our keyboard adventure in Act II. We have an electronic keyboard for the mandolin part, which only shows up to accompany the chorus in one scene. For much of our number it's the only accompaniment. It sounded fine in the introduction, but as the verse started it went silent. Our keyboard player thinks it just died because it stopped showing any signal coming out, he checked to make sure he didn't hit or unplug anything by accident. So our Act II number became an a cappella chorus! We kept in rhythm and on pitch even though we never rehearsed it that way.

Good luck it isn't the performance that is reviewed, still it sounds like it was overall a good evening.

Yes, most of these things were stuff that only someone familiar with the opera would notice.

We were also missing our strongest chorus bass due to illness. Hopefully he is back for the second weekend, maybe even for the Sunday matinee.

Vibes the storm in the rest of the run goes smoother!

Oy!   :)

Thank goodness for your on-the-ball chorus!

The keyboard's setup for one little thing like that could be very simple or a bit complex. For educational purposes, I hope you can let us know what they found the problem to be.

But I listened to a lot of Genji. Only 20 hours remain in part one.
