Did a few more pages - eleven in total, but really close to twelve. Another two or three pages and I'll be onto a new chapter.

I had a horrible night of sleep, really dreadful. First, it is way too warm in the apartment and second, I got my panties in a bunch over Annabelle.

By 7:30 last night, I couldn't stay awake so around 8:15 I went to bed. I slept soundly until 10:00 when I woke and could not get back to sleep. I realized that Annabelle, who usually sleeps next to me on her princess pillow, wasn't there. I had last seen her around 8:00 as I prepared for bed. She and Thatch had got into a big fight and she had jumped off the bed abd run in the direction of the bathroom.

So, by 10:30 I had shuffled my pillows about and gone back to bed, joined by Thatch and Stella. I called for Annabelle and had no response. Around 12:15 - I check my alarm every time I wake - I woke. Thatch was still with me and still no sign of Annabelle. For some reason, mostly having to do with a health scare I had yesterday morning, I began to obsess over Annabelle's whereabouts, and the more I obsessed, the more I became convinced that she was injured or dead, so around 1:15 I got out of bed, turned on all the apartment lights and went in search of my baby. Stella accompanied me as I headed to the bathroom where I feared I would find Annabelle's body.

We got to the bathroom and Stella began her usual sniffing about while I was terrified I'd find Annabelle dead in the tub. Nothing there, so I said to Stella, She's not in here; let's go back to bed and we'll look for her in the morning. As I turnbed to go into the foyer, Annabelle entered the bathroom to check out the scene. She and Stella followed me back to bed; it was around 2:00. Thatch was still in bed waiting for my return. Annabelle joined us, and I slept fitfully, but greatly relieved. Around 4:30, Annabelle cuddled up next to me while Thatxh ran on and off the bed, settling down briefly for pets, then running off again, until the alarm rang.

Annabelle was lost, but now (I'm glad) is found.

This morning, I have a trip to the basement and then I plan to make a big batch of chili. At some point Joshie is bringing me a bit of work.

That was one HELL of a cat story, DR Elmore.

I remember those times. Just out of nowhere, a cat goes off and does ... God only knows what, or where! ... and doesn't show up for the longest time. And then suddenly there they are again, like nothing happened.

TOD

Last night I popped in a film I've had sitting around for probably two decades. It's a big 1987 release I've never seen at all, at a theeder or in any form of home video. It's by a famous director -- one that simply never called to me, but in my movie accumulating days I apparently thought it was one that should be on my shelf to be watched someday. And I guess last night was my someday. It's a two-and-a-half hour film, and it was too late to think I'd get through much of it, but I definitely found it intriguing enough to get through the first hour before my eyes started closing. I'll definitely finish it, most likely tonight, and I'll probably like the rest of it as much as I liked the first part, but I believe there will be no reason to go on keeping it and I'll pass it on. I need to go through more movies like this, get them watched for the long-delayed first or second time, and clear some shelf space. Anyhoo, time for the "reveal": it is Spielberg's Empire of the Sun.

As I recall, my personal coldest was -45 in January of 1986. That was my one winter in Chicagoland.

We're to have an all-day snow day on Sunday, possibly continuing into Monday. Estimates are all over the place, but our local guy is calling it a probable 8-to-14 inches for much of the state.

So today we're braving the crowds for a little panic-shopping. Got to help clear those aisles of bread and milk, right? No milk for me, thanks, but I can certainly be of help in the bread aisle.

Scary cat tale. Night has a way of augmenting paranoia if your head is in just the right spot for it.
