Last night I popped in a film I've had sitting around for probably two decades. It's a big 1987 release I've never seen at all, at a theeder or in any form of home video. It's by a famous director -- one that simply never called to me, but in my movie accumulating days I apparently thought it was one that should be on my shelf to be watched someday. And I guess last night was my someday. It's a two-and-a-half hour film, and it was too late to think I'd get through much of it, but I definitely found it intriguing enough to get through the first hour before my eyes started closing. I'll definitely finish it, most likely tonight, and I'll probably like the rest of it as much as I liked the first part, but I believe there will be no reason to go on keeping it and I'll pass it on. I need to go through more movies like this, get them watched for the long-delayed first or second time, and clear some shelf space. Anyhoo, time for the "reveal": it is Spielberg's Empire of the Sun.
