Unrelated to anything -

I wonder why Rock Hudson received billing before Doris Day for PILLOW TALK
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgAXzI-A9KE

Box office and misogyny. Take your pick.

Do you know:  Was he a bigger box office name back then?

I found this.

"Rock Hudson was billed above Doris Day in Pillow Talk primarily because of his higher star power and leading man status, being a huge male movie star, but their billing became virtually equal (often "Rock Hudson & Doris Day") in subsequent films due to their massive box office success as a pair, establishing them as a top-tier comedic duo where neither truly overshadowed the other. Rock was also under contract to U-I and I'm sure his agent Henry Willson had a lot to do with Rock's billing.

And Rock's contract for Pillow Talk (produced in part by Arwin - Doris' company with her husband Marty Melcher) specified that he would only do the role IF Nick Adams was also in the cast. Inquiring minds can figure that out......

And of course Marty had been married to Patty Andrews one of the Andrews Sisters group.

And Doris' ex manager said the Marty was in love with Patty's money until Doris' money came along - and because there was more of it he loved it more.

Doris' mother once called the manager and was scared because Doris & Marty were out on a date and Patty was on the front porch with a baseball bat waiting for them to get home.......LOL....I think the Patty Andrews Bat would have outsold the Louisville Slugger!

I have just finished a short, hilarious book that Ann Patchett recommended. It’s called The British Understand Wool. Very Nabokovian.
