DOING THE DEMO

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, yesterday afternoon the lovely Lisa Richard and I traveled to Mr. Grant Geissman’s home studio environment and did five of the eight new Nudie Musical song demos. We had quite a bit of fun and it was nice to hear both Lisa and Guy Haines (who came and ran as is his wont) bring the songs to whatever life they have. Lisa sounded especially beautiful on Rosie’s ballad, which is called Simply, and she sounded great on a number with Rosie and Harry. She even managed to learn, on the spot, a difficult trio number (she did the two female parts and Guy did the guy part) – you know, one of those things where everyone has a different melody and then they all come together. Amazingly, it worked (I could only imagine, whilst writing it, what the three parts would sound like against each other) – although, I’m going to adjust one line for two of the parts to make it less wordy – but the overall effect I am very pleased with indeed. We’ll do the final three songs in a few days – we tried laying down Eunice’s song, Where Is a Man? but I still am not happy with the lyrics, same with a Harry ballad in Act Two. So, I’ll be futzing with those over the next few days. Perhaps if it’s not too taxing on Mr. Mark Bakalor, we can even put up a sound clip from one of the demos in the next few days. Wouldn’t that be exciting? Wouldn’t that be too too?

Tonight my installation person is coming to remove the broken DVD player and put in the working DVD player and then I shall watch DVDs from all regions, progressive scan, enhanced for widescreen TVs and with glorious 5.1 sound where available. Until then I shall be doing corrections on Kritzerland all the livelong day.

And so, why don’t I keep today’s notes on the brief side (or, at the very least, the boxer side) – to aid us in that goal, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because until we do that I must keep typing, typing, typing (that is three typings, which might make by typecast). Click away, my pretties.

Having already been out on a walk this morning, I can tell you it will be a beautiful day here in Los Angeles, California. The sky is blue and I am not. Luckie has been doing better, although yesterday she really wanted to have a car moment. She’s been coming out of the car okay (it takes a bit of cajoling, but the last few times we’ve managed it), but yesterday I took hold of her leash (she’s been coming from the back to the front seat and out the front door) and she immediately backed up into the corner and I could see she was nervous and winding up for a nice big pee – well, I must admit to you, dear readers, I saw this and I lost it a bit and I yanked her leash so hard that she practically flew into the front seat and out the door, and she was so in shock over said yanking and flying she totally forgot to pee. I petted her and gave her a treat and all was well with the world.

I still haven’t managed to get over to the DVD store to pick up All About Eve, but I will do that today for sure. I believe The Devil at Four O’Clock also came out this week and that is a must-have for me, too, as I love the George Duning score very much – the movie is iffy, but the score is magnificent. Plus, it’s Frank Sinatra and Spencer Tracy.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must do fixes, rewrite lyrics, take drives, do errands and attend to the various and sundried effluvia of life. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask your excellent questions. So, ask away, and talk about anything else that comes to mind while you’re at it. I’ll check back in often, so do your thing and do it well, my pretties.
