TRY TO REMEMBER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, here we are on a Thursday which is, of course, the day before Friday. Where else on all the Internet can you find such information? Nowhere, that’s where. Yesterday I did quite a few little things I had to do, then ate, then went to Mr. Grant Geissman’s to redo a little formatting problem. Today, the file goes off to the publisher and I’m told, should all go as it should, we could conceivably have books in hand in early November. I’ll have full details as soon as I know them. But it means for sure that if you want Writer’s Block for Christmas you can have it for Christmas. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

Last night I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Hardcore, starring Mr. George C. Scott. It’s not great, but it moves right along and has interesting and good performances. I like Mr. Schrader okay as a writer, but abhor him as a director. Our very own Leslie Ackerman has a small role in the film as does Ed Begley, Jr. Season Hubley gives a very good performance, too, and Mr. Scott is always excellent. There are some good shots of late seventies LA – at one point the Chinese Theater is shown from the Holiday Inn on Highland, the site of the monstrosity that is now known as Hollywood + Highland. Playing at the Chinese: Star Wars. The transfer is very good, replicating the grainy look of the film perfectly. Prior to that, I’d watched the first movie/pilot of Columbo, Prescription: Murder. I didn’t love it – way too padded out for my tastes. I’ll watch the second movie pilot next, but I’m really looking forward to the regular series episodes, including one directed by Mr. Steven Spielberg.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must do many things today and must get crackin’.

I must say things were wild and wooly and also wooly and wild around these here parts yesterday. If you missed any of the merriment and mirth and laughter and legs do catch up. I’m still not feeling up to my usual feel-good self – I have a residual cough. Yesterday I also had a residual from MASH, for the DVD release. I made quite a bit of money, at least enough to buy a Happy Meal at McDonald’s.

Has anyone noticed that October is just about upon us? I feel we will have deliriously delirious times here at haineshisway.com all during the month of October. Of course, in later October it will be three years since Black Saturday, the day in which I saw a side of humanity that I never care to see again. And a little later we’ll be celebrating the third year anniversary of the birth of this here site. Amazing, when you think about it. And let’s not forget about Halloween, where we shall trick or treat right here at haineshisway.com. In the meantime, try to remember the kind of September we’ve had here at this here site.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must do this and I must do that and when I’m through with this and that then I must do the other. Today’s topic of discussion: If you could take the Haines His Way Time Machine back in time, and could see any famous entertainer’s nightclub act or concert, who would it be and why? I’ll start – out of all the people I’d love to have seen in concert, the one I’d most like to have seen is Jack Benny. That’s my choice, because I think he was the funniest man who ever lived and to have seen him in person would have been a dream come true. I would also love to have seen Judy Garland at the Palace. And finally, just to hear what it was really like, I would love to have seen Al Jolson. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, as we try to remember the kind of September and welcome in October.
