COUGH COUGH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I had quite a nice day yesterday. First, I got up and smelled the roses and the Diet Coke. Then I went to the Hollywood Collectors Show and met up with dear reader Pogue and his friend Pat. For my thoughts on said show read yesterday’s postings (and how about yesterday’s postings – quite a rousing day indeed). Then I came home and had luncheon with Tammy. Then the Handy Man came over and did his Handy Work. As it turned out, the timers were all working properly but were not set correctly. The reason that some of the lights in front of the house weren’t coming on was simple: The bulbs were no good. It had never occurred to me that the bulbs might be burned out. Go know. But they’re working perfectly now. Pool lights are next, but I’m going to have to wait for a week or two. Then my Wiring Man came and reconfigured some wiring in both the den and the bedroom and now I can watch all-region DVDs in both rooms. Hoo and ray. Then I relaxed the rest of the livelong night.

Whilst relaxing, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Star Wars. Now, it must be said that when I saw this film the week it opened, I was not as enamored of it as everyone else was. Maybe it was all the hype, which had already been working overtime, but I just didn’t think it was the second coming. I enjoyed it, but that was it. I also enjoyed the subsequent Star Wars films, and I’ve even enjoyed the two recent ones. Haven’t loved any of them, but have been entertained by them. Therefore, these changes Mr. Lucas has been making don’t bother me all that much because I guess I’m just not aware of them as much as the real fans are. I really can’t imagine why he didn’t put both versions of each film on these DVDs – it wouldn’t have hurt and it would have given the fans what they wanted and would still have allowed Mr. Lucas his changes. That said, the DVD is spectacular in every way (except for the remix of the sound – Ben Burtt has gone on record saying he’s not a fan of music and Mr. Williams’ score is suddenly dialed down so low at times that it’s ridiculous) – the image is unbelievably sharp and colorful and the sound (with the above caveat) is clear and robust. I’m looking forward to Empire and Jedi. I still don’t love Star Wars, but it really is very entertaining and enjoyable. I’m also half-way through Super Size Me, which I’m kind of enjoying. I find the director/star a little off-putting, and like Michael Moore, he just gets a bit too one-sided for my tastes. I also could have lived without the vomit scene. But, I’ll have more to say when I’ve finished it.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below, because I’ve just started to have my fiftieth coughing attack.

Yes, Virginia, I have been coughing up a storm (no mean feat) for the last few days. When I begin coughing I cannot stop and I absolutely abhor it. I wrenched my lower back I was coughing so loud and so hard. I know it will go away soon but it can’t be soon enough.

Don’t forget, Donald will have a new radio show up today, and our Unseemly Live Chat is tomorrow at six o’clock Pacific Mean Daylight Savings Time. Be there or be round.

Coughing, coughing, coughing (that is three coughings) – it’s so annoying. Perhaps I should do something to take my mind off these cough attacks. Perhaps I should tell the story of The Randy Vicar and the Apple Brown Betty. But then I’d just start coughing and then where would I be? No, I shall just cough away.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, cough. I must do some errands, do some story plotting, perhaps watch a DVD and a few other various and sundried things. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to choose the topics and we all get to respond and post about them. Let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings as we continue our festival of October.
