STRANGE ADVENTURES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, every day is a new adventure. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, every day is a new adventure. And some of the adventures are downright strange. And some of the adventures are upleft strange. For example, yesterday I called my gal at the new pressing plant, only to be told that my gal had quit. I then had to call my booklet designer in a panic, and he told me that my gal had been unhappy at the new place, and had gone back to the old place after having worked out her issues there. By this time, my head was doing a Linda Blair. I called my gal, she calmed me down, told me we were still on track and that everything from now on would be smooth. Wasn’t that a strange adventure? Earlier, I had had a dining adventure – a lunch with an old pal o’ mine named Cynthia Carle. Cynthia attended LACC way back when, and she was in one of my first works, a musical revue I wrote and directed, based on the work of Ring Lardner. The revue was entitled Shut Up, He Explained. The first thing I asked her at lunch was if she remembered the opening number. I barely remembered it at all, but she started singing the tune immediately. Very impressive. We’ve seen each other a few times over the years, and it’s always enjoyable. Cynthia understudied Glenn Close on Broadway in The Crucifer of Blood, which I believe our very own Pogue did here in Los Angeles, California, USA. She’s also written a few motion pictures with her husband, and she was formerly married to actor Curtis Armstrong. She looked great, and we had a really good time. We laughed and laughed, and just when we thought we could laugh no more, we laughed again. She also is a good songwriter, and she’s been doing a show around town. She sent me a “live” CD and I was quite taken with some of the material and especially with her performances of same. That was a nice adventure. Then, after the Strange Adventure of the Pressing Plant Gal, I took supper with Miss Tammy Minoff, her mother, and our line producer. It was a really good dinner and a really good meeting, and we all feel really comfortable with our line producer. After that, I came back to the home environment, where I had to return some telephonic calls and deal with some other stuff. One potentially good bit of news was that Mr. Grant Geissman has found a printer who does the sort of mini LP packaging we want to do. I’m going to his home environment to see their samples today – Grant likes them, and if I do, I think we’re going to take a flyer and try them. They’re almost the same price as the other packaging, and what’s better is that I don’t have to print 2500 of them to get a good price, so that’s great. I shall keep you posted on all matters and all adventures, whether strange or nice.

Last night I did not have time to watch a motion picture on DVD, but I did watch a bit of the new The Innocents DVD and I compared it with its region 2 counterpart. I’m happy to report that the new DVD is great – really sharp, and one of the best black-and-white scope transfers I’ve seen. In comparison, the region 2 is muddy looking and a bit dark.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m sure there are more strange adventures to tell you about.

Today I am going to begin the arduous task of pre-addressing all of the preorders, so that when the discs come in next week, they will all be ready and sitting there like so much fish, and all I’ll have to do (or my shipping person will have to do) is stick the CDs in the envelopes and take them to the postal office. It’s always the addressing and filling out the delivery confirmation slips that takes so much time, so I figured I’d just get it out of the way.

I saw the proof of my dust jacket cover online and it looks really good. I should have a hard copy by the end of the week, and then I can sign off on that and be done. Yesterday, I signed off on the galley and was told what the pricing on the book would be, which I’m happy with.

We continue to have strange adventures with amazon.com in terms of the Guy Haines album. They initially had the wrong bar code information – we got them the fix right away, but ever since then they’ve had both versions up, and because of that, even though I’ve sent them close to thirty Guy Haines CDs to fill orders with, they haven’t actually shipped the CDs. We’ve written to them several times, and we’re all really annoyed with them right now because they don’t fix the problem and they send form responses. We’ve been asking for a phone number so we can call, which they never provide us with. I wrote them a very strong and very terse e-mail yesterday – we’ll see what their response is.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must write a bit, I must drive about in my motor car and do errands, I must pick up packages, I must have several telephonic calls, I must fill an order for Aron’s Records here in Los Angeles, California, USA, and I must hopefully get the store orders for our new titles. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Wednesday – let’s do an Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. I’m sure we can think of some questions, given the many strange adventures that are going around. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we?
