BELLY DANCING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, here we are on a Friday, and a busy Friday it will be so let me just dive right into the notes like a gazelle doing a half-gainer. Let’s not even waste time with any excruciatingly arch writing, let’s just talk about yesterday without any preamble or even any amble. We won’t even talk about yesterday with any postamble. Yesterday, for example, was also quite a busy day. I awoke at eight, bleary-eyed but not vaguely discontented. As soon as I was alert, I began work on the promo spots. It took me quite a while to get going – the first two things were the hardest to get right, but once I got those down, I moved along at a steady clip. I basically spent all day writing the two spots, with a couple of breaks to do some banking, pick up some packages, and eat some lunch. I had to screen a couple more episodes of the show because I needed a couple of sound bytes that I didn’t have. In any case, I finished around five, then showered and toddled over to the theater. Someone had used the theater and had moved all the furniture around, despite the big signs on every piece of furniture that said DO NOT SIT ON OR MOVE THIS FURNITURE. Some people are just awfully stupid. Whoever it was, left hangers and dirt in the bathroom set, and in the case of the couch, when they moved it they pulled up the spike marks. We didn’t get it back in exactly the right place, which caused Tammy and Matt a couple of really bad problems during the show. I wrote a very strong e-mail to the guy who books the theater, and told him we’d be having a serious conversation today. At around seven I went out to the lobby to find a huge line stretching down the block. Unfortunately, they weren’t there to see Deceit, they were there to see a belly dancing show. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, there was a belly dancing show in the big theater. A sold-out belly dancing show. A loud belly-dancing show. We heard the thumping from their music all during our play. As much as I have enjoyed being at the El Portal, if I were to ever be there again, I would have to know up front what their other bookings were, because their soundproofing sucks. I had several friends at the show, including our very own Mr. Nick Redman and his pal Julie, and my pal Saul Saladow, who came with a former casting director from Warner Bros. A really nice lady who actually cast me in many TV shows. I was always on her A list, and it was very nice to see here again.

After the show, I joined Nick and Julie for a light repast at the Eclectic Café. We laughed and laughed and just when we thought we could laugh no more, we laughed again.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below whilst we all get off our butt cheeks and do some snazzy belly dancing.

Speaking of belly dancing, whatever show I write next, it’s going to be about belly dancing, because let me tell you that belly dancing sells. If I really want a success, I’ll write a show about a Jewish belly dancer named Bella. And if I REALLY want to have a success I’ll make sure that Bella, the Belly Dancer has a cute dog who also belly dances. I think we’ve got a winner here, don’t you?

Today, I have quite a busy day. In a few short moments I shall e-mail my two promo scripts to my executive. I then shall hie myself to Mr. Ron Abel’s home environment to work with Linda Purl (we’re actually hearing a new number I commissioned from Ron and Kirby Tepper). After that, I shall immediately hie myself to the Bank of Bur for day one of the Ray Courts show. I’ll be meeting Mr. Nick Redman there and we shall have a lot of fun. And who will also be there, signing? Why, Miss Linda Purl, that’s who. After the Ray Courts show, I have to attend to several other things, and then I shall toddle over to the theater. My darling daughter will be in attendance for tonight’s show, along with a few other close personal friends of mine.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be a busy little bee, flitting here, flitting there, like a gazelle on a camel. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start: CD, a French soundtrack by my new favorite French filmmusic composer, Philippe Rombi. This guy is the real deal and I have enjoyed every soundtrack of his that I’ve heard. For you Francois Ozun fans, Mr. Rombi did the music for Swimming Pool and Mr. Ozun’s latest, 5×2. DVD, a whole plethora of stuff to watch this weekend, including Daddy Long Legs, Island in the Sun, the new SE on The Magnificent Seven, and three Russian science fiction films. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we dance with our bellies and make lots of money for doing so.
