THE LABORS OF BK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am enjoying this Labor Day Weekend sans as many labors as possible. The Labors of BK will start on Tuesday, and not abate for most of this month. But today, for example, other than doing a little work with Mr. Kevin Spirtas, I intend to do no labors whatsoever. Yesterday, I did a few labors but they were fun and I didn’t mind them at all. For example, one labor that wasn’t really a labor was to have a morning get-together with Miss Alice Ripley. We had a grand time and I’m really looking forward to recording the upcoming concert. After our morning get-together I then toddled over to the dealer rooms at Cinecon. And who did I run into immediately? Why our very own Miss Adriana Patti, who was manning (or womaning) a table for the Hollywood Heritage Society. I saw my pal Marc Wanamaker, and Joe Dante and producer Jon Davison were wandering around. I saw quite a few of my dealer friends, and I picked up some inexpensive theater programs – to read about the most amusing of them, see yesterday’s posts. I also did a little trade with another dealer friend and got an original and stunning William Claxton photo (with his stamps on the rear) of Miss Natalie Wood, taken for Cinema Magazine. There’s no question it was taken to be used for one of the covers – whether it was or not, I don’t know, but I’ll do a little research. After Cinecon I came home, but didn’t really have time to relax, as I had to go to Mr. Grant Geissman’s home environment. Once there, we entered the last of the corrections and have finally put ye olde book to bed. If we’ve missed anything I think it will be fairly minor, but I’m hoping that we got just about everything. Afterwards, we went to the Hamburger Hamlet and I had the same salad I had the other night. While it was tasty, it just wasn’t nearly as good – isn’t that always the way? Plus, the service was absolutely wretched. I stopped going to the Hamlet for that reason, and now I shan’t be returning anytime soon for the same reason. After dinner, I went back to Grant’s and we did some trading and I got some really neat stuff. And then, I finally came home, where I immediately sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Arabesque. Well, I watched about seventy minutes of it, and have to finish it this morning. It’s directed by Mr. Stanley Donen, and it strives mightily to capture the Charade magic. But, Charade had a wonderful script by Mr. Peter Stone, whilst Arabesque has a serviceable script at best. Still, it’s very entertaining and Mr. Gregory Peck and Miss Sophia Loren are always easy on the eyes. I’ll have more to say after I’ve finished it.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below, because it is Labor Day Weekend and I don’t wish to labor over these here notes any more than necessary.

Today, as stated, I will do as few labors as possible. Oh, I’m going to finally get back to my new play (which I haven’t written a word of for three weeks), and I’m also going to start preparing the package labels for shipping Simply Sondheim, but other than that and a brief work session with Mr. Kevin Spirtas, all I want to do is sit on the couch like so much fish and watch DVDs all the livelong day and night.

Now wait just a darned minute. Perhaps we’d better put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, perhaps we’d better break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, perhaps we’d better dance the Hora and the Hula, because today is the birthday of dear reader MattH. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to dear reader MattH. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO DEAR READER MATTH!!! There are a couple of other birthdays for less frequent dear readers, so check out the discussion board for those wishes.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, write, work with Mr. Kevin Spirtas, and then do no labors whatsoever. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings as we celebrate Labor Day by doing as little labor as possible.
