THE SECOND DAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, day two – now wait just a darned minute. Don’t you just hate that? “Day two.” I certainly hate that and yet here I am using that disgusting idiotic phrase. Well, no more, do you hear? No more, I say, and no more I say again. So, let me start over:

Well, dear readers, the second day of rehearsals went very well. I’d rested my voice all the livelong day, so I was in decent shape – however, because I haven’t done this sort of thing in years, I still have to pace myself, and running things full out over and over isn’t the way, so starting at tonight’s rehearsal (or day three, for the pundits), I will only do it full-out once and then I’ll just mark it or do it half-out. I’m hoping I’ll get stronger that way. It’s quite a nice company of players, and everyone is doing a fine job. Both the director and Skip are very good with everyone – very gentle and giving, and because that’s the best way to be, the actors all want to do their best. It was the first lesson I learned when I began directing many, many years ago. Rehearsal ended at nine and then Skip, Fred, and I went and ate a fine and very large Mexican meal at a place called Chevy’s on 42nd Street. After that, I came back to the hotel and sat on my chair like so much fish. Otherwise, I spent all of yesterday either walking or relaxing in my room and not using my voice. I had to do a couple of telephonic calls, but that was it. The most exciting thing that happened during the day was the arrival of my two test books – one softcover, one hardcover. I cannot convey to you the thrill of holding these in one’s hands. It happens on every book – I just feel so damnably proud. The book looks swell in both formats, but the hardcover just seems prettier to me. Up until one has the actual books, nothing really seems real – then you hold them in your hand and you know it’s real. So, I placed my book order and they should be to me in seven to ten days, in plenty of time to ship and also to have in hand for the early November signing. Once again, do feel free to order the book if you haven’t.

Well, day two – damn – the second day of my stay is at an end, so why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below so we can move on to day – damn – the third day of my stay.

I received a very nice e-mail from someone who saw some of my comments on cinematreasures.org. This person grew up close to my neighborhood and remembered and went to most of the movie theaters I did. He immediately bought all three Kritzer books (I was wondering why the amazon sales figures jumped dramatically over the last few days – it seems Ye Olde Kritzer books have been getting orders), which I’m hoping he’ll enjoy.

Today I will probably get-together with elmore for lunch or, if the only time to do that is later, after rehearsal, to discuss Brain matter. I’m also supposed to connect with our very own Miss Juliana Hansen and Miss Theresa Finamore at some point. Also, with Mr. Walter Willison at some point. I will try to take a nice long walk as I did yesterday, and I will absolutely continue to rest my voice. I’m hoping today will yield positive news from dear reader Jose about a ticket for Friday night’s performance of A Chorus Line.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, walk, relax, meet with whomever and rehearse. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Aks BK Day, the day in which – AKS BK DAY??? What am I, doing Ebonics all of a sudden? In five years that’s the first time I’ve ever mistyped the word ask. Oh, well. In any case, it’s Aks BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, as we begin day – damn – the third day.
