A HARD DAY’S NOTES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I think these here notes need a kick in the pants. Yes, Virginia, you heard it here, I think these here notes need a kick in the pants. I mean, every day the same thing, the same routine. And yesterday was no different, so I suppose you could just refer back to the previous day’s notes and get the drift. Still, for those who are interested, I suppose I’ll keep going. It just gets hard to do, especially late at night – sort of a hard day’s notes. But first, before I forget, I must go take my nighttime pills. I shall return in but a moment. Yesterday, I was awakened by people slamming their hotel room doors. I hate these people who come home in the middle of the night and talk loudly and slam their doors. However, I soon realized it was ten o’clock in the morning and not the middle of the night. That’s how dark my room is. After fooling around on Ye Olde Computer, I took a nice brisk two mile walk, then came back to the hotel, where I sat for the rest of the day, relaxing the voice and taking it easy. Then I toddled off to rehearsal, the first half-hour of which was just to run my three solos. The director was very understanding about my not wanting to push, and I didn’t in that part of the rehearsal. I also took it easy for the first hour, but when it came time to run the opening I marked it the first time through, but then realized that that was difficult for my fellow cast members, because they go off my energy – so, the next time through I did it strongly. Again, the repetition is what gets to my voice, but I didn’t go nuts and hopefully if I rest the same way today, all will be well. Once we’re just doing the show, there won’t really be a problem, I hope, as it’s just two hours, and I’m really only about twenty-five minutes of that. So, my plan, and it’s one I’ll stick to, is to just mark stuff tonight, at least as much as possible. And I always have Dr. Kohn to shoot me up should I need it.

After the rehearsal, I had a lovelier than lovely dinner with dear reader elmore. We had quite a lot of naughty fun and we laughed and laughed and just when we thought we could laugh no more, we laughed again. We discussed The Brain, and I answered the handful of questions elmore had. I had the bacon cheeseburger, a baked potato, and a small Caesar. I then came home and sat on my chair like so much fish, and had to answer a plethora of e-mails.

Well, why don’t we click on the Unseemly Button below because it’s been a hard day’s notes and I wish to zone out.

I just feel these here notes need a kick in the pants, something to get them up on their feet. They need some tang, some vim, some verve, like a gazelle sucking on a grapefruit.

Today, I shall walk, I shall relax (foregoing a lunch engagement), and then rehearse. After rehearsal, I shall come straight home, because I have to get up early tomorrow as the call is at ten o’clock and we do our first performance at one. Thanks to FJL, I am going to see A Chorus Line on Friday evening – I’m very excited to see it. I will, of course, have a full report.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, take a nice long walk, I must relax for many hours, and then I must rehearse. Today’s topic of discussion: Taking a leaf from the other day – if you could give your very own Tony Award to the ten plays and musicals (together or separately) that you considered virtually flawless and perfect, what would they be? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we?
