TOO POOPED TO POP

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am too pooped to pop. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I, BK, am too pooped to pop. And yet, I must pop no matter how pooped I am. Or, perhaps I’m too popped to… no, that doesn’t work, does it? I thought yesterday was crazy, but today shall be equally crazy and, in fact, more crazy. Yes, this will be one crazy Friday in which despite my being too pooped I must pop like the dickens. Speaking to the dickens, yesterday was crazy with a capital K. I got up at eight, answered e-mails, got ungroggified, then jogged, then had to hurry over to Vinnie’s. He’d done all the rough mixes for the Emily and Alice CD, so we began at the beginning and I listened and we finessed each mix, edited some of the dialogue (I’m leaving most of it on this first pass, to see exactly where we are after I tighten it all and remove all the repetition), and in three-and-a-half hours we managed to get through all of act one and the first two songs of act two, so that was excellent. I then had to hurry to LACC for rehearsal, where I blocked the second longest sequence in the show – an act one scene that included one song and a lot of dialogue between six characters. Happily, when one of the authors is the director, then the six characters never have to be in search of the author. I blocked it much faster than I could have imagined, and it looked pretty good when we ran it – then I kept futzing with it, adding and subtracting, until it felt right. We ran it many times and the actors all got used to it and I’m very pleased with how it all went. After that, we let some of the cast go, and I worked with Cason (our alien), Alet, and Egbert, the student who is playing the Brain. We blocked their first scene and song (the song had already been staged for the reading, although I added a few new touches) – it’s really fun to work with them and they all did a great job of learning it all. After that, dear reader and assistant Adriana asked me to take her to a partay – some sort of party I didn’t understand (perhaps she’ll post and enlighten everyone) – it was in Silverlake, an area that confuses me, in a historic house. I was so hungry by that time that I could have eaten a horse, but where do you find a horse you can eat that late at night? Happily, they had some food at the partay – tamales and Pad Thai – don’t ask. I ate some Pad Thai and one tamale and three sugar cookies, then made my exit (Adriana stayed on, as her mother was there). I was still hungry, since that was all I’d eaten all day, so I stopped at Jack In The Box and had a couple of Breakfast Jacks. And that’s what I call a non-stop day. Upon my arrival at the home environment, I was too pooped to pop and therefore sat on my couch like so much fish, after reading almost ten pages of posts from our very busy day on this here site.

Last night, not only was I too pooped to pop, I was apparently too pooped to even watch a motion picture on DVD, even though I started one – Astaire and Rogers in Carefree. About ten minutes in I could barely keep my eyes open, so I stopped the movie and started these here notes.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because tonight I must get to bed as soon as these here notes are posted.

Have I mentioned that I’m too pooped to pop? Today will be even longer than yesterday, me-wise. For starters, I have to see Teddy in the morning for a haircut. As soon as said hair is cut, I must hie myself back to the San Fernando Valley to finish finessing mixes and editing. That should take about ninety minutes, and then I must hurry to LACC for rehearsal. We’re reviewing some stuff with the entire company, and then I’m blocking a big act two sequence save for the actual dancing in it (a tap number, which will be choreographed by a tap expert) – all that will probably take the entire rehearsal period. Then, as soon as rehearsal is over at 7:45, I walk over to the other theater (where the Brain will play) and see the opening night of Intimate Apparel, which I’m looking forward to. After that, I’m sure I’ll have to eat some food. And then be up early tomorrow morning because she of the Evil Eye will be here bright and early and I have a rehearsal to attend.

I don’t think I have Saturday evening plans, so I’m looking forward to just relaxing in the home environment, and the same goes for Sunday, although if Vinnie and I don’t finish today, we may have to do an hour or so on Sunday. I’m not sure I’ve mentioned it, but we’re definitely getting the Emily and Alice CD out in time for Christmas. Preorders will begin on November 10 or thereabouts and we will hopefully be shipping four weeks from that date, in time for the CDs to arrive pre-Christmas.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, jog, get a haircut, mix, edit, rehearse, attend and opening night, and eat. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start – CD, the remastered CD of the soundtrack to Bye Bye Birdie – I hadn’t picked it up, but used some credit to get it – it sounds great and is lots of fun. Also listening to Sammy Davis, Jr. singing the score to Doctor Dolittle, which is very entertaining. DVD, Carefree, then more Astaire/Rogers. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I attempt not to be too pooped to pop.
