THE WILDE OSCAR PARTY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it was an Oscar Bash to remember. It was a Wilde Oscar party here at haineshisway.com and all previous posting records were toppled, shattered, destroyed and stomped on. I never thought we’d top last year’s Oscar Bash with 1220 postings in one day, but it became apparent when, at three o’clock) we already had close to seven hundred posts. As I write this, we are close to 1800 postings for yesterday, and it was our biggest “views” day with over 6,000 “views” and also our biggest “hits” day with over 11,000 “hits.” And the whipped cream on the hot fudge is that yesterday we also achieved our highest posting month ever, with over 11,300 posts with still three days to go. Yes, it was a day to be reckoned with and I reckon it was a grand day all around. If you missed any of the merriment and mirth and laughter and legs, you’ll want to read every single post – all sixty-plus pages of them. I want to thank everyone who attended the partay, including the large number of lurkers. With all these shattered records, I do feel that soon we will be the most popular site on all the Internet. Another interesting factoid is that we’ve had well over four million hits during this board’s history, maybe as many as six million, since we average close to two million hits a year. I simply say congratulation to one and all and also all and one. Yesterday was quite a day – I got a great night’s sleep, then relaxed for a lot of the day. I didn’t get much writing done (just a few sentences) but our very own Cillaliz gave me some very helpful information regarding some technical things I needed to know, and that information gave me several great ideas, all of which I’ll implement today – and it will propel me directly into the next chapter. I did only one little errand, and then had some dinner and then came home to the Oscar Bash here at haineshisway.com. I’d say that I sat on my couch like so much fish, but I spent the entire time running back and forth between TV and laptop. I could have, of course, just brought the laptop into the TV room, but, you know, I have my routine and I don’t like to change it.

I have several new DVDs to watch (picking them up today), including The Prestige, For Your Consideration, the Alice Faye box set, volume two of Mr. Moto, the final two seasons of I Love Lucy, and a box set of early Hitchcock movies, which apparently have transfers that are a zillion times better than any we’ve had. Oh, and a documentary called Who Killed The Electric Car, that I’m really looking forward to. Now the hard decision is which to watch, or should that be watch to which?

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get my beauty sleep after our mega Wilde Oscar Party.

Today, I shall do much writing in the morning, then I have a lunch meeting with Mr. Kevin Spirtas, to discuss a new show for him, then a couple of errands, then more writing. Then tonight, it’s DVD viewing time, at long last.

I know I have a few other things slated for this week, but I haven’t written them down – I do know that I’ve told people to call or e-mail me and remind me of what’s what. On Wednesday, I do know I have to attend a bash at the Music Center in the morning, and I do know I’ll have meetings with my two gals, Joan Ryan and Merissa Haddad – I know there are three or four other things, including taping a radio show with Mr. Donald Feltham, celebrating the release of The Brain From Planet X CD – I’ll be joined by Kevin Spirtas and Cason Murphy and maybe another guest or two.

Also, the David Shire At The Movies limited edition CD should go up for preorder on Tuesday morning and I’m hoping that more than a few of you will have sufficient interest in it to purchase it. It’s a grand CD, and if you love Mr. Shire’s film and theater music, it’s for you. I’m not sure how it will sell or how long we’ll have it (because this is also film music related, it’s going to several specialty shops and they take quite a few and there will be quite a few film music fans who’ve wanted this release and not wanted to pay inflated eBay prices for the original version), so order sooner than later is my advice. I’m hoping to ship by the 15th of March. The nice thing about this re-release is that it includes a seventeen-minute bonus track from another out of print CD, so it’s a very full seventy-seven minute CD.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, meet, eat, drive about in my motor car, and attend to some things that need attending to. Today’s topic of discussion: What was/is the finest non-professionally produced show – play and/or musical – you’ve ever seen? Where was it, did anybody connected with it move on to greater glory, and what made it so special? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, as we recuperate from our Wilde Oscar Party.
