ATTACK OF THE KILLER PAPERS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am inundated with papers. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I, BK, am inundated with papers. Papers everywhere I look – in front of me, on the chair next to me, on the dining table, on the kitchen counters, all over the piano, on the couch in the book room, in the den – papers, papers, papers (that is three papers – I WISH!). I’m sure many of these papers are very important, but I am so inundated with papers that the very thought of looking through these endless piles is so daunting that I am daunted and therefore I just pass them by, because to stop would mean spending minutes and then hours going through them, and then do I really want to see these important papers which are, most likely, asking me to fax things or pay money or respond in some way? May I just say that I loathe these piles of papers and if I had my druthers I’d just gather them all into one big pile and flush them down the toilet. However, the toilet I would flush them down (the guest bathroom) isn’t flushing right now. Can you imagine that? Can you imagine that? What am I, Anna Maria Alberghetti all of a sudden? Oh, the toilet makes flushing noises but the water just sort of lays there like so much fish. A Toilet Man is coming this morning to fix it. Meanwhile, I cannot flush these various and sundried piles of papers. I suppose I’ll go through them at some point, but when that point will be is anyone’s guess. Speaking of anyone, yesterday was a day that was mostly good except for the not so good. For example, I got up. That was good. I then did some things and then got the news that our second funding payment had arrived. That was better than good. I then toddled off to rehearsal with The Party Animals. The three new cast members are doing very well and all my notes were about energy and focus and fun. I think that 2008 will be a very big year for our show and it may finally reap some profits. I then did some more errands, and then came home and did some work, then had to deal with a lot of stuff for the fundraiser, some good, some annoying. I keep trying to block out a schedule, but it’s almost impossible to have everyone’s schedules mesh – in fact, it’s a nightmare. I’ll be spending a goodly part of today working on that very thing, as well as trying to get a few more performers booked. I’ll also be sending out a whole slew of e-blasts today. Finally, after all that, I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Kansas City Confidential, a little film noir from director Phil Karlson, starring John Payne, Neville Brand, Preson Foster, Colleen Gray, Lee Van Cleef, and Jack Elam. The film is generally considered a film noir classic, but, for me, it never really achieves classic status. It’s good, and very enjoyable, but it’s too long at ninety-nine minutes, and there are too many little plot holes for it to work perfectly. The cast is excellent, but one quickly tires of Payne, Brand, and Van Cleef basically playing The Three Stooges over and over again. Miss Gray is lovely, as always. The transfer’s okay – not great, not bad.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I am inundated with papers and I feel like they could attack me at any moment – Attack Of The Killer Papers, that sounds like a 50s horror movie, doesn’t it?

Today – yes, today. Today will be like everyday – busy, busy, busy (that is three busys). I have a two-hour work session from eleven to one, I have Mr. Toilet Man coming, I have to get the funding check in the bank, I then have to write heaven-knows how many checks to heaven-knows how many newspapers for our fundraiser ads. I have to do e-blasts, book talent, schedule rehearsals, work with my stage manager so he can take over some of this stuff, and on and on it goes and where she stops, nobody knows or, at the very least, nobody nose.

The rest of the week will be more of the same. I’m hoping to dine with my cousins this evening, so that will be a pleasant change of pace. Three weeks and six days until show time. I liked it better when it was four weeks. So much to do, so little time.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a work session, do banking, do errands, do e-blasts, do scheduling, do, do, do (a coprophiliac’s favorite Gershwin song), and go, go, go. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your all-time favorite Gershwin songs – songs by George and Ira, of course, but also songs with lyrics by Ira and music by others. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I try to avoid the Attack Of The Killer Papers, a Bert I. Gordon film.
