FEELING THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the weekend is over. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, the weekend is over. I ask you, where else on all the Internet can you find such information? Nowhere, that’s where. This is a big week for me, what with several important meetings and everything culminating on Saturday with a book signing, and some sort of birthday dinner, which I know little about, but which I’ll be attending. It’s a big ol’ birthday, too, and one I can’t quite believe is happening. But, more about that as we approach the day. I must say, December is a huge birthday month here at haineshisway.com, so get ready to partay. And, of course, it’s time to start shopping for Christmas present and might I just recommend that Kritzerland CDs and certain books available at the Kritzerland website make excellent gifts for you and yours. For anyone who buys over one item, I will refund the shipping charge back to the buyer. So, free shipping for two items or more for the entire month of December. I’m definitely feeling the holiday spirit already. Have you ever felt the holiday spirit? If so, how did the holiday spirit react? Speaking of the holiday spirit, yesterday was one of those lazy Sundays that I enjoy from time to time. I got up way too early, but managed to go back to bed until about nine-thirty, at which point I got up and said, “Hello, day, how’s by you?” After getting no answer from the day, I went about my business, which was to do as little as possible. I finished cleaning the dining room, which was a major ordeal, but it’s done and the entire house is now organized and lovelier than lovely. I took a drive, visited a couple of stores, and then came home. The weather has been quite crisp here in the City of Studio, so I was happy to get back into the heated home environment. I’d stopped at Gelson’s just prior to coming home, and got a nice little steak to cook. I put it in the oven, put the oven on broil, then did some work on the computer. I’m afraid I forgot the steak was in there, and when I remembered the side that was cooking was, as the French say, noir. I turned it over, cooked the flip side just enough, and then ate it all up. It was quite yummilicious and the burnt bits weren’t too burnt. I then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, an anime feature film from Japan, made by a couple of refugees from Studio Ghibli. The film is adapted from a novel, which has been filmed twice before as live action films. It took me a few minutes to get with it, but once I got with it I was hooked for the duration. It’s a very sweet film, with more on its mind that just mindless fluff. It’s funny, it’s extremely touching at the end, and just a wonderful little film. I took a chance on it because I’d read some wonderful things about it. I bought this copy on eBay very cheap. When it arrived, I was a bit dismayed to find it was a DVDR in a slim DVD case with a Xerox cover, which is certainly not how it was listed. Just to make sure, I went back to the listing and was further dismayed to find that the listing had been removed from the eBay site completely. I then clicked on the seller’s feedback and was further dismayed to find that despite his 100% positive feedback, he was now “not a registered user.” Fortunately, I’d paid through paypal, and I simply opened a claim, which got forwarded to the seller. They ask you to try and resolve it with the seller and to give it fifteen days, but because he was now off eBay, I called paypal to ask them to open the claim immediately. While I was on the phone with them, the seller refunded the money – he also sent me a smarmy little note, and I responded to him in kind. So, I got a nice, free DVDR. I think the point of the story is I don’t know that you’ll find anything but a DVDR with English subtitles on eBay. There are a couple of copies up for sale now (cheap) and given the careful wording of the seller, I should think it’s not quite legit. Still, the transfer and quality was excellent, and the film has a very nice musical score, too.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because frankly I’m enjoying feeling the holiday spirit – it’s a little kinky, but, you know, we all have our kinky sides.

Have you ever had some kinky sides? My favorite kinky sides are cole slaw and some fries, or maybe even baked beans. Which puts me in mind of The Randy Vicar and the Baked Beans. That’s just too risqué for this here site.

Today, I have errands to attend to, writing to do, and a lot of e-mail and telephonic calling to do. And do it I shall. The rest of the week is just meetings, meals, meetings, meals, and then some more meals. And, of course, feeling the holiday spirit.

I have on my dining table a little Santa Claus from last year’s Christmas Eve Do. It seems like that was a week ago, and yet it was almost a year ago. I cannot believe I will be doing the Do in just three weeks time. If any of you hainsies/kimlets want to make the trek Westward Ho, you are welcome to stop by and partake of the food and festivities, not necessarily in that order. What fun we shall have.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do all the things listed in the second paragraph, and then I must eat something fun and interesting and yet not too caloric. Today’s topic of discussion: How far in advance to you buy your Christmas gifts? And how do you decide on the gift? And when do you deliver them? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, as we all feel the holiday spirit, if you get my meaning.
