PARDON MY FRENCH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I feel that today’s notes should be in French. However, since I don’t know how to write or speak French, that won’t be happening. That said, through the wonders of Internet translation devices here are the notes thus far – in French.

Bon. I especially like “Bien, de chers lecteurs” – that just tickles me pink and also light green. Now I’m feeling all French and I’ve just taken out my parapluis even though it is not raining. Perhaps I’ll even eat some French food or, at the very least, French fries or some French dressing. Speaking of French dressing, yesterday was yet another jam-packed and fun-filled day and evening. I got up at eight, answered a whole slew of e-mails, then revised some of the previous days pages, then wrote a couple of pages, then did the long jog. I then decided to have an early luncheon and went to Dino’s Pizza where I had a Dino’s Pizza (pepperoni). It was, as always, yummilicious. I then came home and wrote three more pages, and then I had to leave and go to a work session with Mr. Sean McDermott. We went through about eight songs (more than half of this little interim act we’re putting together for one performance), and came up with some fun arrangements for them. That took almost three hours. I then came home and wrote another two pages, then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

I did have an e-mail I was waiting for – two contracts for Kritzerland limited edition CDs, hopefully to preorder in mid to late March. They’re two really wonderful titles licensed through MGM – one soundtrack and one cast album. So, I’ll be sending those licenses in today and I’m hoping to be able to pick up the master tapes by Friday or next Monday, so I can get them shipped up to my mastering engineer.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled Sex And The Single Girl, starring Miss Natalie Wood and Mr. Tony Curtis, with a grand supporting cast including Edward Everett Horton, Lauren Bacall, Henry Fonda, Larry Storch, Mel Ferrer, and Fran Jeffries. But the most fascinating aspect of the supporting players is that they include a host of alumni from the film and stage version of Li’l Abner – including Daisy Mae (Leslie Parrish), Marryin’ Sam (Stubby Kaye), Available Jones (William Lanteau), and General Bullmoose (Howard St. John) – they could have done a revival while they were filming. I remember enjoying the film when it came out and I saw it several times. It’s not really very good, but I do like its director, Richard Quine, and there are some funny things in it. Obviously it’s very dated, although that never bothers me. Miss Wood is fetching, and Mr. Curtis really was a wonderful comic actor, and Miss Parrish is beyond beautiful. The film features a protracted and not very funny chase on what was then the still fairly new 405 freeway. The score by Neal Hefti is wonderfully catchy and fun. The transfer is not so great – it’s too brown but not as bad as some Warners’ transfers in that regard, but the image is too dark and a little muddy. For me, it was worth it for Miss Parrish alone.

After the movie, I took a nice long shower, got inspired, and then wrote two more pages, for a total of nine. I was pretty zonked after that.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below and let’s click en Francais. Oops, pardon my French.

Today, I shall be taking a day off from the long jog (unless I just do it because it’s so nice out), I shall be writing as many pages as possible, and I have a helper coming to enter more e-mail addresses into Constant Contact so that the next Kritzerland blast will go to as many people as possible. I’ll also find something amusing to eat at some point. Thankfully, I have no other plans.

Tomorrow will be more of the same, and the same goes for Friday. I do have some things happening on the weekend, and I’ll be seeing some one-act musicals on Saturday night.

I’m happy to say we can all take off our pointy party hats and colored tights and pantaloons as there aren’t any birthdays today.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, figure out whether to do the long jog, write, eat, and enter names into Constant Contact. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, and remember, please, pardon my French.
