Well, dear readers, it’s feeling like a Wednesday to me, which is good since it IS a Wednesday. The worst is when it feels like a Wednesday and it’s Sunday. That just boggles my mind and I feel like I’m having an LSD trip, even though I’ve never actually HAD an LSD trip. My goodness, these here notes have turned psychedelic all of a sudden. Next thing you know I’ll be playing Jefferson Airplane and Cream. In any case, it’s feeling like a Wednesday, whatever that means. Speaking of whatever that means, yesterday wasn’t a bad day at all, in fact it was quite pleasant. For example, I got up. That was quite pleasant. I then did the long jog (it was quite pretty out), which was also quite pleasant. I then set up a new printer since the old printer was old and not doing well. The new printer is young and doing just fine and prints out pages faster than the minute per page of the old printer. It’s the same brand, Epson. This new printer purportedly does up to thirty pages a minute – I find that doubtful, but it does spit out the pages, even in color, very quickly, which is a big help. After that, I had to attend an important meeting, which went very well and I’m hopeful good news will result in the next couple of weeks. I then came home, picked up one solitary package, got a spicy Eyetalian Subway sandwich (I am totally hooked on it), and came home and ate it all up whilst answering e-mails, and doing a little rewrite on my liner notes. I had a couple of telephonic conversations and then I had to finally satisfy a little craving I’ve been having – thankfully, I ran my four miles today, because I went over to Gelson’s and got a Parisienne cake. They say one must satisfy one’s cravings every now and then and this was the now and the then. I had two slices, both smallish, and that was what I needed. I’ll be giving the rest of the cake away today. Or maybe I’ll just finish it myself and call it my meal of the day. I then finally sat on my couch like so much fish.
Last night, I watched a motion picture on DVD entitled The Yellow Rolls Royce. I do remember seeing the film several times back when it was released, including a sneak preview of it. I recall enjoying it enough to see it a few times. It’s from the same writer/director team as The VIPs and it’s a similar sort of film. I wish I could say I loved it but I didn’t. In fact, the first two episodes were quite boring, although I did enjoy the actors – Rex Harrison, Jeanne Moreau, Shirley MacLaine, Alain Delon, Art Carney, and George C. Scott – Mr. Scott was fun but it’s a very odd performance. But the third and final episode redeemed the film for me. Ingrid Bergman is terrific as a strong woman named Miss Millett – she’s hilarious, gorgeous, and a real bona fide movie star. Omar Sharif is good opposite her, and Joyce Grenfell is fantastic as her secretary/companion – Miss Grenfell is one of my favorite actresses and I must say she does a pretty great Southern accent here. The score is a little syrupy – it’s by Riz Ortolani, and the film spawned a semi-hit song in Forget Domani. The transfer is actually very nice, with pretty accurate color, unusual for Warner Bros. Check out the trailer, which is faded and brown – that’s what Warners’ transfers usually look like, so it’s nice to see that in a few of their recent releases they can get it right. Now if they’d just go back and fix all the ones they’ve botched.
What am I, Ebert and Roeper all of a sudden? After the movie, I listened to about five CDs, all of them excellent, including a four CD set of music from French crime films (the set is called something like Rififi au Cinema), spanning the 50s through the 80s, with composers such as Legrand, Delerue, Sarde, Morricone, Lai, and many others. It’s a fantastic collection of music from both classic French crime films and lesser known French crime films.
Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m having an acid flashback right now and things are looking very psychedelic, with swirling colors in the windmills of my mind.
Today should be a very easy day, and I’ll actually get some time to relax and do a little catching up. I’ve got to start gathering materials for the next releases, too, and we’re trying to get the second volume of the LACCTAA newsletter done.
We’ll be doing a very informal reading of Nudie next week – just a few actors coming over so that David and I can hear the new version and make sure we like it. Then the plan is to do a larger scale reading in March with a full cast, and Adam Cates coming in to do a little musical staging, too. So, I’ve got to seriously start thinking about casting that.
Tonight I’m supposed to go to a meeting, but I think I’m going to cancel, since I don’t have any updates for them. I’ll go to the next one for sure.
I’m very much looking forward to attending the Hollywood Collector’s Show on the weekend. The lineup is great, and I always enjoy seeing my dealer pals.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, take it easy, perhaps eat another slice of cake (or not), and do various and sundried errands and whatnot. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we all go psychedelic.
