COVER BOY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is late and I must write these here notes in a hurry, as I must be up very early for our second day of casting. Yesterday’s casting session went well – we saw some very talented actors who really did well. We did, of course, have four no-shows, but that’s better than last time. After the session, I had to drop off the manuscript of the new book to someone I’m hoping will blurb it. Then I went to have a sandwich and fries. Then I printed out orders. Then I called muse Margaret to read her something I’d written a couple of nights ago. It had come to me and I knew exactly where it would go in the book and it was colorful and fun – she thought so, too, so I’ve added it. Luckily, since the book is being proofed, if I find any additions that are really fun and short, I’ll add them, as we’re not going to actually begin designing the book for at least three more weeks. It’s a very unusual way for me to be working, but this book is unusual and not fiction and if I’ve forgotten a story or two that’s fun, why not put them in if they come back to me? After that, I moseyed on over to Mr. Grant Geissman’s to design the cover of the new book. I’d had a specific photo in mind for the cover, but as we looked at it there was no real way it was going to work without shrinking it down and having a lot of blank space with type. But I’d brought over all the other photos we’ll be using and his eye immediately went to one that he just thought was a perfect image – perfect for the title of the book, for the feeling of fun and excitement that I wanted to impart, and that’s what we went with. The only thing that will probably be adjusted is the drop shadow behind the title treatment, which is a little too severe right now – it’s still readable, but if the drop shadow is tightened it will be even more readable, which is what we want. The back cover has the photo that I wanted on the front cover – on the back cover it is smaller (like a head shot) and the blurbs will go around the photo – it will look great. He found a really fun font for the title, too. After that, I finally came home and had no time to sit on my couch like so much fish or to watch a motion picture on DVD or Blu and Ray or the DVR.

On the other hand, I have been watching a motion picture called Pepe on DVD in the bedroom. I know it’s a bad movie, but I just have a soft spot for it and there are certain things in it that I just really like.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I must get my beauty sleep so I can be alert for our casting session.

I always find the designing of the cover to be one of the most fun things about the whole book process – it just makes everything feel real. Perhaps I’ll show a photograph of the cover this very day, lest I be accused of a cover up. You’ve heard of Cover Girl – now we have Cover Boy.

Today, I have a casting session, then I’m supping with a friend directly afterwards. Since we’ll be so close to Dino’s, perhaps I’ll have a nice pizza pie with pepperoni. Or perhaps I’ll drive over the hill and have Genghis Cohen – we shall see.

Tomorrow we have our final casting session. And then on Friday we do our private reading. The weekend has stuff going on, but I don’t think it’s too much. The biggest thing will be seeing a local film composer to approve what he’s put together for an upcoming release. That should happen on Sunday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a casting session, eat, pick up a package or three, and then relax and watch a motion picture on Blu and Ray, most likely The Informant. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers, shall we, whilst we are tickled pink with our new cover and its cover boy.
