GOOD FOR WHAT AILS YOU

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am exhausted from my exhaustion. Or, to put it another way, my exhaustion is exhausted. I have been so single-minded for the last five weeks and now it’s all starting to catch up to me. I always go through a little post-partum depression after finishing a book, and because of the nature of this particular book, it’s a little stronger than usual – rather like what I felt after finishing each of the Kritzer books. Muse Margaret reread the final 100 pages and had some excellent suggestions, all of which I did. But something was bothering her about the last twenty-five pages or so and it took us about forty minutes to boil it down to its essence and figure out what needed to be done. The solutions ranged from cutting twenty-three of the twenty-five pages, to just adding three sentences, which is what I ended up doing. It had something to do with the tone of those final pages – for her, the point of them was getting lost and by adding these three sentences at various points, that gave the rest of it a much stronger point of view. So, I only ended up taking out about a page of stuff that she felt wasn’t necessary. All that revising took about an hour. The rest of the day was mostly spent staying out of the rain, although I did have a lunch and did some errands and whatnot. I caught up on some e-mails, and did some other work, and added a quotation to the beginning of my new book. After that, I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I finally got around to watching the two-hour season premiere of Lost. Sadly, I fear this show is going the way of Alias’ last season. What happens with this type of show is that the writers box themselves into a corner and just use whatever device they can think of to get themselves out of the corner. Someone dies? Let’s do a time shift so we can have them back. Let’s introduce yet a whole new group of people. And the dueling storylines was a little irritating at times. Still, it remains an enjoyable show thanks to the excellent cast and terrific production values. The HD quality is astounding. I then finished a motion picture on DVD entitled Gambit. I must say it’s quite a lark and a film I never get tired of. And the more Ronald Neame films I see, the more I think he’s a major director who could do most anything.

After that, I got a little snack from Gelson’s, then just listened to music, had a couple of telephonic conversations and enjoyed my evening.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below so I can get up from this here computer and do the dance of the Incas, which will surely lift me from my post-partum depression as those Incas’s dances are a legendary cure for what ails you.

I have just done the Dance Of The Incas set to the music of Guy Lombardo. I feel much better and it truly is good for what ails you.

This morning I shall be printing out two count them two copies of my manuscript – one for me, one for muse Margaret. We’re both going to read it from the top straight through, after we take a few days away from it. Then I have a lunch at Musso and Frank with some friends, and then I shall come home and watch a motion picture on either Blu and Ray or DVD.

Tomorrow, I have to give a few more notes to the co-author of the long musical, and I have to deliver a box o’ CDs to the local dealer, otherwise the day is mine all mine.

Next week is going to be busy but not too busy. We have a casting session on Monday, then I will head out to the Monica of Santa for a visit with my very own actual brother, whom I haven’t seen in way too many years. The rest of the week is filled with meetings, announcing the new Kritzerland release, and prepping the release that follows that, which I may announce a week later rather than two weeks later.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, print two copies of the manuscript, have lunch with friends, do some errands and whatnot, and then relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Michael Caine is quite wonderful in Gambit – what are your all-time favorite Michael Caine performances? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, and lots of postings are good for what ails you.
