ONE ADAM 12 – SEE THE MAN

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry because I am so overtired and exhausted I can’t even see straight. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I, BK, cannot even see straight and am therefore seeing crooked. I had another unbelievably long day doing things I should NOT have been doing because what I should have been doing was getting through my final read-through of the book. But no – I was up at six to announce our new release, never got back to bed because of drama with the long musical, all completely unnecessary (what else is new), and then printing out lots of orders for Cuba. I then did some more reading/proofing, finding some rather large mistakes, like a couple of bad name misspellings (thank heaven I just happened to double check), and a few odds and ends I hadn’t caught. I’m doing this go-through on the computer so I can have the print large. When it’s large you really do look at everything. Happily, everything we fixed is indeed fixed – haven’t found any em dash or bad break problems, so that’s great. No, I’m finding things I’ve just missed before – little tiny mistakes. I’m reading slowly, too, not skimming. And then I had to hurry over to the second recording session. I was there from one-thirty to six. It was fine. I don’t like home studios and I don’t love not working with a real engineer, but we got it all done and mixed. I then had to get a bite to eat and by the time I finished and got home it was seven. Of course, I had a full day of e-mails to deal with and even a couple of telephonic calls to have. And I’d gotten the third blurb for the book and debate still rages on about whether to use it or not – I’m really on the fence but don’t think I will, simply because of muse Margaret’s vehement dislike of it. There are very sweet comments about the book buried within what is either funny or not funny, depending on your sense of humor. The fear is that if a person who doesn’t know me or the blurber were to pick up the book and read it, its tone could be perceived strangely. I finally began reading/proofing at around eight-thirty and did so until about ten-forty. I’m only on page 154, but I really have to finish before our work session late this afternoon. And that was my day and that was my night and boy do I need a proper day off, which will now be part of Wednesday and all of Thursday. Friday I have to start paper blocking the staged reading – this is a huge mother of a show with twenty-eight actors and this is really going to be daunting to get it all done. I know some members of our team really think I’m going to be doing some actual staging, but I do believe the staging is going to consist of enter left, exit right, and that’s it. There is simply no time to do anything other than that.

Well, I hate to cut this short and would love to cut this long, but why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I’m about to fall off my chair I’m so exhausted. One Adam 12 – see the man.

Today – well, today. Today I shall get up early and begin my reading/proofing. I have informed everyone that I will not be distracted by anything – I have told the creators of the long musical that they must not call, not even to leave a message. No e-mails, no nothing, I must have my full concentration. If I do, I think I’ll just about make it through before toddling off to Grant’s to complete our work on the photo section and to enter these final fixes, which are all very simple and easy.

Tomorrow, I will have to spend a couple of hours highlighting the stage direction I want read. Once that’s done, I am taking the rest of Wednesday off, and all of Thursday and nothing, and I mean nothing will deter me. Friday, I’ll star paper blocking the show and that will continue all weekend, although on Sunday we have to address packages and do the postage thing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do nothing but read/proof my book until I finish, then we do what will hopefully be our final book session before everything is sent off to the publisher. Today’s topic of discussion: If you could bring one TV series back from any era, with its complete cast intact, what would it be and why would you choose it? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we? One Adam 12, see the man – man sleeping.
