April 16, 2010:

SO INCLINED

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am writing these here notes on location from Indianapolis, Indiana, where I am in a very nice hotel in a very nice room sitting in front of my very nice laptop. The first half of the flight, to Houston, was great – on-time, good seat, comfortable. Then we arrived in Houston where I had to sit like so much fish for a little over ninety minutes, but again, I did a one-day pass for the President’s Club, so I could do stuff on the computer and that helped pass the time. Then came the second part of the flight, and that wasn’t fun at all, mainly because it was the thinnest plane I’ve ever been on (one seat only on one side, and two seats on the other, with barely enough aisle room for a normal-sized person. On top of that, I had a window seat. It was hellish for the first ten minutes. The gentleman to my left was, while not exactly tubby, very large-boned and I felt as if I was locked into this corner. The only saving grace was the leg room was actually okay – had it not been, I think I would have had an episode. I actually mentioned the claustrophobia problem to the fellow to my left, and he commiserated but did not offer to switch. So, I just concentrated on doing some work I was doing and I did that for the two hours of the flight. Only towards the end of the flight did I come close to having a problem – otherwise, I was surprisingly calm and made the best out of a bad situation. As we landed I asked the fellow next to me to do me a big favor and as soon as we were stopped at the gate to please get up right away and let me into the aisle. I knew if he didn’t that I would go berserk having to be locked in to my seat. Thankfully, he did as requested and I got right up and into the aisle and it was like having a huge weight removed from me. Thankfully, on the way back it’s still the same teeny-tiny plane but I’m closer to the front of the plane and on the aisle.

Once on the ground, I went to ground transportation and got a cab to take me to the nearby hotel. I checked in, they gave me a really nice room, and then I went downstairs and had a club sandwich, fries, and a small salad. That was all very filling, and then I went back to the room and relaxed until I got the call that our very own Lulu was in the lobby. I went downstairs and we went to the bar. She had a drink and I had water.

What a lovely person Lulu is. It was very nice to finally meet her, and we had a lovely conversation. I don’t think I was particularly good company – I was a little zoned out, frankly, but it was a really fun visit, and she’s going to try and join our merry troupe after the Brain, so she can meet Jrand and Pogue and maybe even the cast of The Brain.

Then I came back to the room with some cherry Twizzlers and began writing these here notes. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I am just about to fall over I’m so tired.

Today, I shall arise, do the treadmill in the morning, then go play with Pogue around noon. Have no idea what we’ll do – one thing I thought about doing was maybe paying a visit to my publisher, who is right here in Bloomington, but it’s an hour drive both ways and it’s just not going to work out, time-wise. Then somewhere around five, Jrand and his guests and Pogue and I will meet for dinner somewhere. I really would prefer not to eat here at the hotel, but somewhere more fun. If we absolutely cannot find anything, then we’ll eat here. We plan to get to the theater by seven-twenty. And the plan is to hopefully go out after the show, maybe even with some of the cast members, should they be so inclined. I’d like to be so inclined right about now – I can barely keep my eyes open.

Tomorrow, I’ll try and get up early enough to do a quick treadmill, and then Pogue and I will head to his old Kentucky home for some quality time and good eatin’. And then I have to be at the Cincinnati airport no later than 4:50 in the morning.

Sunday, I am quite sure I will be very tired upon my arrival back in LA, and I’m quite sure I will be doing absolutely nothing but relaxing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the treadmill, play with Pogue, get ready for our evening entertainment, sup, see The Brain From Planet X, and go out after the show. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/video player? I’ll start: CD, various and sundried Kritzerland projects. Blu and Ray, the second two parts of Lord Of The Rings. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I am so inclined to hit the road to dreamland.
