THE COMEDY OF ERRORS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, have you ever had a comedy of errors day? I had one yesterday. There were errors and there was comedy, frequently at the same time. It just went on and on and now I’m ready to sleep and not have any more comedy of errors or any more errors period. The first thing that happened was, I got up. That was comedy. I went to bed early the previous night because I just needed to be in the dark, what with being dilated and all. It took me a while to fall asleep but I got nine good hours. I hadn’t had confirmation of my two o’clock meeting at LACC so I wrote him a second time. Then I had a call about my availability to do a recording session – they needed to do it quick and on Sunday. But, after calling my engineer and various studios it became apparent that Sunday could not work, so I suggested Monday, which could. They told me they’d see how that might work. Then I did a two-mile jog and then had a turkey sandwich and no fries, after which I went to the mail place where I picked up no mail and no packages. That was comedy. I then came home and still had no confirmation about the meeting, so I wrote again. It was then I was trying to respond to some e-mails, but my mail program would not send any of them. This has happened before and it’s most annoying, I must say. I tried everything – quitting out of the mail program and restarting, all to no avail. I finally got so annoyed that I called Apple and got a nice gentleman on the phone. We did all sorts of tests and checked the settings and he was as baffled as I. We finally changed one thing, quit out of mail, and at least it then looked like it was trying to send all the stuff in the outbox. Meanwhile, as we were waiting to see if it would ever complete sending, he got me to a tech expert on the Mail program. Just as she came on the line, it sent, so we were working. So, I wondered whether we needed to change back what we’d adjusted. She methodically went through everything with me for each of the seven addresses I have in the mail program. Interestingly, my two roadrunner addresses have always been able to receive but I’ve never been able to respond from those addresses via the Mail program. It took a while, but she got that fixed so I now can reply from those two addresses. Then we changed back the thing we’d adjusted and everything worked fine, so that was good, a comedy of errors gone right. While all that was happening, I got an e-mail from the LACC guy asking where I was. I called him and told him he’d never confirmed with any of the three e-mails I’d sent him. He said he hadn’t received them – then found all three in his spam folder. He assured me that would never happen again. We rescheduled for today. That was a comedy of errors.

Meantime, my friend e-mailed me saying she’d put in the ticket request for The Glass Menagerie and we decided to eat before the show. Seemed like a good idea. So, I got ready and coifed, got in the motor car and headed downtown to the Music Center. There was almost no traffic, which was great. I paid the nine bucks to park in their garage and walked upstairs to the Taper, where I called my friend to ask where we were meeting. She seemed a little shocked that I was calling and then in an apologetic voice said the show is NEXT Wednesday. I couldn’t believe it. It was perfect, in a way, given everything else that had happened. So, I got back in the motor car and then had to brave rush-hour traffic from downtown back to the Valley. It wasn’t as horrible as it could have been, so that was good. Then I went to Gelson’s, got a half roasted Wolfgang Puck chicken because it looked good, some chopped liver and some lobster salad. The chicken was okay (I hadn’t remembered that I hadn’t really cared for it last time I’d had it) – I ate the breast, the wing, and part of the leg. Then I had some chopped liver, then the lobster salad, and that mélange of flavors just about made me want to vomit on the ground. In fact, I still feel like I want to vomit on the ground all these hours later. Then I got a call about the recording session and they asked if we could do it Friday. Before I could even find out, they called back and said they were probably going to do it Saturday at a studio really far away – I told them I wasn’t available and neither was my engineer. I wished them luck and also gave them an alternate suggestion that would save them a lot of money. Then I watched a little of the new Blu and Ray of Forbidden Planet, but I want to finish it before talking about it. And that was my comedy of errors day. It was actually not a bad day at all, just amusing as the wackiness continued.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because my comedy of errors day is at an end and I need my beauty sleep.

Today, if I’m remembering correctly, the helper should be here at ten, and we go pick up the order of shipping boxes (700 in five big boxes), then we have some stuff to ship, and then she’ll take the big stack o’ invoices home with her and begin addressing them. My LACC meeting is at three, and then I’ll come back home.

Tomorrow, I’m seeing Teddy for a new do, and then a young gal is coming here to sing for me as a potential performer for our October show. I want to use one up and coming performer, rather than an established performer, because it’s very right for one grouping of songs. And I finally got an idea for the other gal – I was hoping for a name, but everyone seems to be busy, but then I was talking to Alet and she mentioned someone we’ve both worked with who we love, and I thought, yeah, she can do this ’cause she’s funny and can sing anything. So, I’ll talk to her today.

The weekend brings the Santa Monica Book Fair, and even though it’s usually not a great fair, I’ll pay my respects and hang out with some dealer pals.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, ship packages, pick up boxes, hopefully pick up some packages and mail, have a meeting at LACC, and then eat something fun. Today’s topic of discussion: I really must get this awful mélange of flavors out of my mouth, so – let’s talk ice cream and ice cream concoctions – favorite flavors, favorite two-scoop cones, and favorite concoctions. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we wish everyone a very happy Jewish New Year filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful – and no more comedy of errors days for quite some time.
