TLC

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am in serious need of some TLC and I don’t mean The Learning Channel or Two Little Creampuffs. No, I mean I am in need of some TLC as in Tender Loving Care as in a nice ninety-minute massage, which would, include a foot rub. I haven’t had anything like that in over a year now and today it hit me that I desperately need a message. Of course, when it hit me I hit it right back. It is always hitting me and frankly I’m a little tired of it right now. Where was I? Oh, yes, TLC in the form of a massage and foot rub. Did you know hat foot rub spelled backwards is bur toof? And I need one of those, too. I like a masseuse to come to the home environment, but I don’t really know anyone who does that anymore. Perhaps I’ll ask around. Around seems to know everything, so I’ll ask around and see what I can glean. Obviously it won’t happen before I go to New York, New York, the city that never sleeps, but perhaps upon my return I shall figure out a way to get a massage and foot rub and also a bur toof. When one is single, of course, TLC is not so easy to find. However, today I shall go down to Ventura Blvd. and go up to some people and say, “Hey, you, get over here and give some some damn TLC.” We’ll see how that works. In any case, yesterday was a perfectly okay, even-keeled day. I got up a little earlier than planned, and then the helper came over and packaged up what turned out to be quite a few orders. We went over all the house details (she’ll be watching the house whilst I am gone), so that’s all done. I pulled out Ye Olde Suitcase so I’m ready to pack today. I do have to buy some travel-sized toothpaste, but that’s really all I need. After that, I went and had a sandwich and no fries, then picked up a few packages, then came home and did a bunch of work on the computer. I wrote the blurb and prepared the eBlast for our next release and that’s all ready to go upon my return. Then I did a two-and-a-half mile jog, which made me sort of nauseous actually. Then I finally sat on my couch like so much nauseous fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Charade. It’s such an entertaining film that one forgives the few silly scenes. The Peter Stone script is very funny and filled with sparkling dialogue, Stanley Donen does a fine job directing, but it’s the cast that really makes it such a stellar film. First off, we will never see the like of Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn again and their chemistry is so fantastic – it’s just a constant delight watching them play off each other. Add to that Walter Matthau, James Coburn, George Kennedy, and Ned Glass and it just doesn’t get much better. The transfer is mostly excellent in terms of sharpness and color – it’s a little grainier than it should be, but it’s basically fine and has never looked better on home video.

After the movie, my nausea continued, but wasn’t as bad. Then I decided to write and post the notes a little earlier than usual so I can get a good night’s beauty sleep, so why don’t we all just click on the Unseemly Button below whilst I say again I need some TLC and I don’t mean The Lithuanian Convention.

Today, other than delivering a box o’ CDs to a local dealer, buying some travel-sized toothpaste, and doing some banking, I have no other plans. I’ll relax, I’ll pack, I’ll jog, I’ll print out my boarding pass, I’ll watch a motion picture or two and I’ll write and post the notes very early so I can get some sleep.

Tomorrow, of course, I shall be on my way to New York, New York, the city that never sleeps, so send all your excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe, on-time flight with no weather problems anywhere for my entire stay and flight home.

I hope to meet someone for dinner tomorrow night – probably at Joe Allen. Friday I tape some TV show for the book and then do the signing at 5:30 – then we’ll reconvene at Joe Allen for a hainsies/kimlet get-together – I’m looking forward to it all very much.

Saturday, I’ll be in the recording studio with Skip, Fred, and the lovelier than lovely Rebecca Luker. And then I’m probably meeting a friend in the evening. And then I come back to LA and, of course, need excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe on-time flight and good weather.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, deliver CDs, buy some travel-sized toothpaste and do banking, and hopefully pick up a few packages. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland dreaming of TLC.
