SLIGHTLY CRAZED

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week is flying by, like a gazelle recounting the story of The Randy Vicar and the U-No Bar. I am feeling slightly crazed at the moment, but I just have to remain calm and focused and I’ll get through everything just fine. I do have to multi-task a lot these days and if I don’t feel pressured about things that’s easy for me to do. If I feel that I can do things as I wish to do them, then I’m fine. When I start to feel shoved in a corner, then I’m not. Yesterday, for example, was a day when I did things as I wished to do them. Therefore, I was able to write nine pages over the course of the day and never felt like I allowed my focus to be split. I took a break for a sandwich and fries and to pick up a couple of packages, and I gave two singers their music and CD. But mostly I worked on the book. I answered e-mails occasionally, and took a couple of telephonic calls. I have less than 100 pages to go so everything is critical from this point on, as I have to tie up everything in a neat little ribbon. I did do bullet points on the next five chapters, so I know where all that is going. After all that work, I finally went out for dinner at seven. I had some eggs and a bagel. Then I came home and finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I watched a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled The Social Network. I’m happy to say it remains the best film of those I’ve seen this year. Everything works – the direction, the pace, the performances, the writing, and even the score, which I don’t like on CD but which works well in the film. The transfer actually looks better than the film did at the DGA – this was shot digitally and the transfer to film looked fine, but I imagine that the Blu and Ray transfer is direct from the digital files.

After that, I wrote another half a page, and also did some futzing and fixing on some earlier pages. I also listened to the source masters for the three UK cast albums, and they sound grand and will be on their way to the mastering guy today. I’m hoping that the first of them will be announced in a couple of weeks, then the other two will be a month apart. It will be interesting to see how well these sell – if they do well, then we’ll perhaps seek out some more.

One interesting thing about all the writing I’ve done this week, whether the book or these here notes or anything else – normally I fly through pages, but this week it just seems that every page is taking a very long time and I really don’t get it. I’m hoping that starting today I will fly once again, because I’ve got liner notes to write, some lyrics to redo for a specialty number, and edit road maps to create.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I am really tired and really in need of my beauty sleep so that I can rid myself of this slightly crazed feeling.

Today, I shall try to write three or four pages first thing, so I can end the chapter I’m on. Then I shall go Xerox the new 60 pages along with the previous 60 pages, which Muse Margaret will reread, now that I’ve made various changes to those pages. Then I’ll deliver the pages. Then I have to ship some CDs. Then I’ll do some errands and whatnot, hopefully pick up some packages, redo some lyrics, write some liner notes, and write another five or so pages to get me into the new chapter. Then I’m supping at Genghis Cohen – haven’t been there in a couple of months.

Tomorrow, I must be up very early to receive and then ship CDs. The interim helper will do most of it, but I’ll have to deal with the big packages that are going to the dealer. That will probably take most of the morning, and then I’ll buckle down Winsocki and finish liner notes, write pages, and maybe even get to watch a motion picture or three.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, Xerox, deliver, ship, pick up a package or three, write, and then sup. Today’s topic of discussion: What are you currently reading? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland and hopefully wake up feeling less slightly crazed.
