THE GIVING OF THANKS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, let us begin today’s notes by giving thanks. Thanks for all the good things around us and within us. Yes, Virginia, today is Thanksgiving Day, a day in which we give thanks and eat turkey and stuffing and yams and mashed potatoes and CRANBERRIES until we stuff ourselves so full of food that we want to vomit on the ground. Other than that, I must write these here notes in a hurry because even though I’d intended to write and post on time, I got waylaid. I got waylaid and that’s all there is to it. I not only got waylaid, I got sidetracked. I not only got sidetracked, I got distracted. But now I’m back in the swing of things and can write to my heart’s content.

For some unknown reason, I awoke at five in the morning – this, as you might imagine, irritated me. I did fall back asleep until about eight, but it was not quite enough sleep. I got up, CDs arrived, I got them all packaged up and drove them to the postal office. Then I did some errands and whatnot, did the four-mile jog, had some matzo brei and a bagel, and picked up the finally arrived errant and truant package. I then came home, did one final revision to the commentary, and locked the script. It was then time to be on my way to LACC for what in essence was a dry tech. I’m very glad we did this, because it means that Monday will probably go a lot smoother. We went cue by cue, fixed stuff that was wrong, added lights to certain things, worked out timing, discussed where and how the moving lights would be used – those will be programmed in on Monday morning. I think the show will look very good when it’s all up and running smoothly. We only had two cast members there, but boy were they helpful, walking all the numbers. I sat in the audience and watched the lights, giving occasional notes. We broke at nine, and I stopped at Gelson’s on the way home and picked up a small thing of chicken pasta and a small thing of mac and cheese, both just what I wanted – a light snack. I then came home and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I managed to watch another Inspector Maigret mystery, starring Bruno Cremer. It wasn’t quite as good as the first one I’d watched, but it was quite excellent and I’m just loving this show. As mentioned, the mysteries themselves play second fiddle to the characters and their intricate stories and relationships. That’s why this is so enjoyable – it’s not your standard whodunit and the stories are very rich. Bruno Cremer is just a wonderful actor and all the supporting players are terrific. And again, the music, by Laurent Petitgirard, is wonderful. I gather all these episodes take place in the 1950s – at least I think they do. Certainly the first two did. Looking forward to the other eight in this set, and then I’m sure I’ll pick up volume two (there are five in all).

After that, I did some work on the computer, did the blurb for the Gardenia show and prepped everything for my personal eBlasts for both the LACC show and the Gardenia, plus I have to send one for episode two of Outside The Box. Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because it is REALLY late and I REALLY must get a good night’s beauty sleep.

Today, I shall hopefully arise after a good night’s beauty sleep. I shall be lazy in the morning and Arthur in the afternoon – oh, a Kander and Ebb and Liza reference. I shall do the four-mile jog, I shall watch a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled Super 8, and then I shall be on my way to have Thanksgiving dinner with Melody, her folks, and her brother. Apparently we are to eat, watch a movie, and eat, not necessarily in that order. After that, I’m sure I’ll waddle home.

Tomorrow is completely a ME day. Other than send out e-mails, I shall do whatever pleases me, and I’m sure what will please me is to do nothing at all but watch motion pictures, eat, and relax. I do have to go have a new tire put on my car – two days ago the tire pressure light came on – I couldn’t understand it, since the car had just been serviced. Today, coming back to the car from lunch, I noticed the back tire was almost completely flat. When I looked at it I immediately saw the humungous nail that had lodged itself all the way in. I took it to the nearby gas station – they plugged it, but said the nail was in the worst possible place and that the safest thing to do was get a whole new tire, as plugging up this particular hole was not safe for more than a few days. They ordered the tire and it will be here tomorrow morning. I shall also try to rest and do nothing on Saturday (except run my songs and opening patter every day, several times), and Sunday we have a short rehearsal for the Gardenia show.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the four-mile jog, relax, watch Super 8, and then have a Thanksgiving Dinner. Today’s topic of discussion: A Thanksgiving Memory – what’s your favorite? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, giving thanks for all the good things in my life, and that includes this here site and you dear readers.
