SHOWS FIVE AND SIX AND EPISOD THREE OF OUTSIDE THE BOX

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this run of Lost and Unsung has come to an end. We went out with two great shows. The matinee was about two-thirds full and they were a lot of fun. Everything went really well and certain performances of certain songs were the best they’d ever been. One of the things that’s so pleasurable about narrating the show is that I get to just sit and watch the performances. Our evening show was really fantastic and really could not have gone better. We had a full house, they were lively and with it and very savvy, and we all had a blast. With that kind of crowd, I tend to adlib and be very loose, which I did and which I was. I really have enjoyed working with this cast – I knew the ringers would all be great, but it was the LACC gals, none of whom had really ever been in a musical before, that made this such a pleasure. They were so willing and so trusting and so diligent and their hard work really paid off. I was very pleased with the look of the show, and I thought the staging just came out very well – the little Kimmelography stuff was done so beautifully by the cast, so it was fun to watch it every night. The lighting was great, and the set really worked well for us. All in all, despite the short rehearsal period and the craziness of having five days off before tech, it was a really great experience.

Prior to the matinee, I did the four-mile jog, ate some matzo brei and toast, and then went to LACC. I came home between shows, picked up no packages and an important envelope, rested (although, happily, I had no vocal problems at all during the run, and doing the matinee and evening was easy/breezy, so that was great), and then went back to do the evening show. It’s always shocking to me just how bad traffic is on the 101 freeway on Saturdays – ridiculous, really. Both day and evening was terrible and I had to get off at Gower both times.

After the show, we all went over to Genghis Cohen. The waitress there said she’d really missed me (it’s been four months since I’ve been there). We’d ordered the food the day before, so it was all ready for us. It was a really fun way to end the evening and the conversation was lively and the food, of course, was yummilicious in the extreme. While it would have been great to do another couple of weeks, I’m happy I can get some rest and attend to other things that I’ve let slide.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I really need a good night’s beauty sleep and I do have a few things to do today. And, of course, right now episode three of Outside The Box is uploading as I type these here notes.

Today, I shall hopefully arise after a good night’s beauty sleep. Then I shall undoubtedly be lazy. I may or may not do a four-mile jog, but I will do some catch up work on various and sundried projects and I’ll map out whatever releases will be coming before the end of the year. And I will begin making notes on the new book, as well as finishing the little bit I have to do on the commentary for the Gardenia. I may have a good meal somewhere, and then I’ll catch up on watching motion pictures, beginning with my final two Maigret movies in the volume one box set. I’ve so thoroughly enjoyed these that I’ll be getting volume two right away (there are five volumes total).

Tomorrow, I have to pay an obscene number of Kritzerland bills (and hope there’s enough money in the Kritzerland coffers to do so), and I’ll have plenty of errands and whatnot to do. Tuesday we have our stumble-through, Wednesday is sound check and show, and the rest of the week will be getting our next releases in order and celebrating my very own birthday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do or not do the four-mile jog, I must do catch up work, map out releases, write a little bit of commentary, eat something fun, and then watch motion pictures. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland after the Outside The Box upload of episode three is complete. Don’t forget to watch it (www.youtube.com/outsidetheboxseries), share it, post about it.
