KICKING THE ASS OF IRRITATING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, the hardcover of Red Gold arrived and that was, as always, a very magical moment – to hold it in Ye Olde Hands.  And so, books are ordered, signing is booked – we were going to do it on April 20 because the store now favors Sundays, but for some loony reason that no one has yet been able to explain to me, that’s Easter Sunday.  Last year, Easter Sunday was in March.  Next year it’s the first week of April – can’t the Easter people make up their damn minds?  It’s as bad as the Oscars.  So, we’ll switch to the day before, Saturday April 20 and that will solve that.  And I was very surprised to find a reader review on barnesandnoble.com – in fact, I was thrilled, especially because they liked it and weren’t sure they would.  Here’s a link to it:

Isn’t that nice?  That just made my evening last night.  Hopefully, once you dear readers get it we can have some amazon reviews, too.  I should have books in about ten days and we’ll ship them the day they arrive.

Yesterday was a nice day and an irritating day, but the nice won out and we kicked the ASS of the irritating, oh, yes, we kicked the ASS of the irritating.  I was up early, did morning ablutions, and then we had a Sandy and Lanny work session.  I must say, the six songs we’re working on so far sound really good in her voice.  Lanny is doing some very nice arrangement stuff, too, and I am endeavoring to keep an open mind about all of that.  After they left, I went and picked up the limitation sheet for the signed limited edition and took it to Staples – they’ll Xerox and trim and that will be ready this morning.  Then I had a cup of chicken corn chowder and a ham and Swiss on rye for my meal o’ the day.  Then I went and picked up some packages, including the hardcover, then did some banking, then finally came home.

Once home, I did some more work on the computer, and now know what Monday’s Kritzerland release is, which will be an Encore Edition of a title that sold out in a matter of days and one I get lots of e-mails about.  After that, I sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I went back to Sweden for a couple of Nordic Noirs – actually these films were the precursor of the Nordic Noir trend and the first three of these films were really big successes in Sweden, and there’s currently a TV series of them.  They feature a character called Johan Falk, a cop.  I watched the first two in the series, Zero Tolerance and Executive Protection.  I didn’t find them great, but they had their moments and are excellently paced.  The second worked better than the first, but there are just some irritating qualities to the title character.  In the first one, the bad guy is played by the guy who went on to play the pig Nils Bjurman in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.  And in the second, in a co-starring role we had a pre-Wallander Krister Henriksson.  I’ll watch the third one this evening.

Today, I’ll be up very early to get the limitation sheets, then Jimmy Mulligan is coming by at eleven to sign the fifty of them – I’ll have already signed them by the time he gets here, then Grant can sign on Friday.  Right after that, I had over to LACC for our first production meeting, which I’m very excited about.  That will probably last for an hour or two, then I’ll either come right home, trying to beat the traffic, or, if it’s too late, then I’ll go somewhere and have a nice meal and go home after the traffic.  We shall see.

Tomorrow is a work session, plus a lunch with David Wechter.  Saturday I’m not sure what’s happening, and Sunday I’ll be attending the opening night of whatever’s at the Pasadena Playhouse.  Then next week is very busy with all sorts o’ stuff.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, pick up the limitation sheets, sign, have Jimmy sign, attend a production meeting, eat, hopefully pick up some packages, and relax.  Today’s topic of discussion: I hate the expression the bucket list, but what things are high on your list of things that you need to do that you haven’t done?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall kick the ASS of the irritating, should the ASS of the irritating show its ASS in any way, shape or form.
