ON MY WAY TO THE CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS, NAMELY NEW YORK, NEW YORK

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am writing these here notes early so I can schedule them to post at midnight whilst I am hopefully asleep.  Yes, I, BK, must be up in the middle of the night and then I shall be on my way to the airport, after which I shall be on my way to New York, New York, the city that never sleeps.  So, now is the time to send your strongest most excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe, secure and on-time flight.

Yesterday was a half-and-half day – half getting things done, half relaxing.  Of course, I wanted a whole day of relaxing but alas that was not to be.  I got about seven hours of sleep, got up, and moseyed on over to get coifed by Teddy, who did his customary usual excellent coifing of me.  After that, I came right back to the Valley and went and had a cup of soup and a ham and Swiss on rye.  Then I picked up one package and came home.

I finished packing (most of that was already done), had some telephonic calls, answered e-mails and did some work on the computer.  Somehow all of that took most of the afternoon.  I then put the motor car in the garage and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night I watched a motion picture on the Netflix, entitled Murder on the Home Front, one of those BBC crime things, this one set in World War II and about a killer on the loose.  It’s based on the memoirs of a woman who presumably is the character of the young woman in this film.  I quite liked it – in fact, I liked it a lot – then I read some imdb comments from the usual peanut gallery who like every piece of merde made – they didn’t like it.  A few did, but most did not.  It’s very well made, the actors are very good (the lead guy is Patrick Kennedy, who was on Downton Abbey) and I liked the leading lady, Tamzin Merchant.  It held my interest, the mystery is no big deal, the music was very good and I recommend it if you’ve got Netflix.

After that, I double-checked everything to make sure I had what I needed, especially my boarding pass.  Of course, printing that turned out to be a whole ordeal in itself.  I never got the e-mail from Jet Blue so I went to their site.  My username and password are saved there, but didn’t work.  This has happened every single time in the last year – so I changed my password yet again, and I still had trouble logging in but finally did.  I checked in and got the boarding pass print out screen – for some stupid reason it wanted to save it to my desktop as a PDF – a first.  But it wouldn’t even do that.  I clicked on it, told it to save and it wouldn’t.  So, at that point I got on the phone with someone at True Blue who admitted to me right away their site is completely incompatible with AOL (hence no e-mail) and Safari, hence always having to reset the password and hence not being able to print out the boarding pass.  I then went in through Chrome and everything worked fine, although it still insisted in saving the pass to the desktop, and I printed from there.  That baffled the woman on the phone, who said she didn’t understand why it was doing that.  Hopefully in New York the hotel computers in the business station will work correctly with the Jet Blue site.

Today, I shall be up at around three to get ready.  The car arrives at four-fifteen and we’ll hopefully be to the airport by five.  Once there, I get to use the express line and the express security, so let’s hope that all goes smoothly.  Being an extra leg room passenger, we also board first.  Once we’re there, it’s directly to the hotel for check in, then I’ll go to a Duane Reade and get the couple of things I need, and then I’m seeing Beautiful, which has an early curtain at seven.  After that, a few of us will go to Joe Allen for dinner.

Tomorrow is the very long rehearsal day, starting at ten.  At three we begin the first stumble-through, I give notes, and then we do the second stumble-through and I give notes.  The I’m seeing Gentleman’s Guide to Murder and dining after.  Saturday, I’m going to stay in most of the day and relax, and then I’ll mosey on over to The Triad at four-thirty to see the room and the set-up and all that.  The cast will arrive around five-fifteen for sound check and they open the doors at six-thirty for our seven o’clock show.  Then we have a half-hour and do it again.  Sunday will be an exact mirror of Saturday.  I’m still hoping we get a surge of reservations – we shall see.  Monday morning I have the first flight back to LA, at six in the morning.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be on my way to New York, New York, the city that never sleeps, I must check in to the hotel, I must see a show, and I must sup.  Today’s topic of discussion: What have been your favorite BBC series and movies over the years – or any UK TV shows?  Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall be on my way to New York, New York, the city that never sleeps, so please send your strongest most excellent vibes and xylophones for a safe, secure and on-time flight.
