TURKIYE LURKEY ZAMAN

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, today we shall not have any further Latvian notes, although I must say that yesterday’s notes and posts were most amusing in a Latvian sort of way. No, today I feel we should have Turkish notes accompanied by the eating of Turkish taffy. Anyone here speak Turkish? Or, as they say in Turkey, Burada herkes Türkçe konuşuyor?  Burada herkes Türkçe konuşuyor – isn’t that what Michael Rennie says to Gort in The Day the Earth Stood Still? What the HELL am I talking about? You’d think I was Turkish or something. Do they eat turkey in Turkey? Do they say “Does anyone still wear a hat” in Turkey? Why yes, they do: Herkes hala bir şapka takmak mı? Apparently Elaine Stritch was VERY popular in Turkey.

Yesterday, I got about seven hours of sleep, once again not falling asleep until after three and getting up at eleven. I’ve got to get off this damn cycle. Perhaps I’m on Turkey time. Or perhaps I’m on Turkey Lurkey Time or, as it’s called in Turkey, Türkiye Lurkey Zaman. Once up, I did the usual morning things – answered a LOT of e-mails, had a couple of telephonic calls, and then I went and had some eggs, bacon, and toast for my meal o’ the day. Then I picked up some packages and came home. One of the packages contained the ION USB cassette recorder thing. I unpacked it – it’s a fairly flimsy little bit of nothing, but I plugged it in, found a cassette to test, opened Garageband and voila it worked. The only weird thing is you can’t monitor it as you record – you can when you do vinyl so I’m not sure why this doesn’t work. However, it comes with headphones so I just used those.

Then Richard Sherman came by with his two cassettes – on them was one song we didn’t have for one of the projects, and then there were two other versions of songs we did have, which we’ll use instead since they involve more singers. So, I transferred all that while Richard was here. We chatted for a bit then he took his leave. I did the final changes to the track titles and got that to Doug Haverty, so he now has everything he needs to complete the package. When I say fast track I MEAN fast track.

Then I buckled down, Winsocki and wrote some more liner notes – I’m almost finished with the first set now. Then I also wrote the opening of the commentary for the Kritzerland show – someone pointed out to me that our show is on the first night of the Jewish New Year – I have told the Jewish Holiday People to stop doing that to no avail. But we’ll have our own Jewish New Year celebration at The Federal and I hope we don’t lose too many audience members because of it. I’ll even do a what is it, fish-a-long.

That took up most of the rest of the day. Then I actually transferred some other stuff from some cassettes I’ve had here – very rare stuff that someday could be a Kritzerland release. Then I did the shorter jog, then sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night I watched more of Godzilla 84. I find the transfer so irritating that I’m finding it hard to even watch the thing. The Godzilla films that were made later than this one upped the effects stuff and are much more fun to watch, but I enjoy most Godzilla films. From the later series, I also have Blu and Rays of Godzilla vs. Mothra, G vs. MechaGodzilla and one other I can’t remember. I’ll watch all of them and, of course, I can now sell off the DVDs. In fact, I have a huge pile to take to Amoeba. I got about seventy minutes in, then stopped.

After that, I listened to some music, did more work on the computer, had some Pop chips and pretzels for my evening snack along with a few pieces of chocolate licorice, and that was that. Oh, I also had a tiny package of Swedish Fish – the five-five calorie pack. Or, as they say in Swedish: Åh, jag hade också några svenska fisk.

Today, I have to be up no later than ten. At eleven we have a work session for the Kritzerland show, and then we’ll go get a bite to eat, most likely at Jerry’s Deli. Then I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, jog, finish writing at least one set of liner notes and get those off to be proofed whilst I begin the second set, then at some point it would be nice to relax.

The rest of the week is meetings and meals, then on Saturday night I’m seeing Ryan Raftery at Catalina Bar and Grill. Not sure what the HELL is going on on Sunday. Then we have our Kritzerland rehearsal week.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora and the Madison, because today is the birthday of our beloved dear reader Laura.  So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our beloved dear reader Laura.  On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR BELOVED DEAR READER LAURA!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, have a work session, eat, hopefully pick up packages, jog, write, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to as me or any dear reader any old thing you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall sing and dance the entirety of Türkiye Lurkey Zaman whist eating ramen.
