DAY OF THE WEEK UNDERPANTS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this week is flying by, like a gazelle wearing gaily-colored underpants with the day of the week on them – today being especially gaily colored and Thursday. I’m happy to say and was, in fact, rather surprised that our next release was approved very quickly and so we’ll be announcing that in the next day or so – first time we’ve had two releases in one month in ages. It’s a two CD set at a one CD price and a really delightfully delightful score. So, that was a nice thing that happened yesterday.

Other things that happened yesterday: I was up at ten after almost eight hours of sleep. I answered e-mails and that sort of thing, did some writing, listened to some music, downloaded the final CD master for this new release and listened to that, did a two-and-a-half mile jog, and then the helper came by and we began what will be a very long cleaning up of the garage. I wasn’t of much help, since I had more work to do on the computer and then had to get ready for the auditions we were holding for the Richard Sherman evening.

I moseyed on over to Calabasas for a quick meal first with Sami’s mom. We went to Maria’s Kitchen. I had their side Caesar salad, which is really small, just about four bites took care of that, and then I had a calzone with cheese and sausage. This thing was HUGE. I ate half and that’s all I could do. We then moseyed on over to Calabasas High to hold our auditions.

I saw about twenty-three kids – all very talented. Sami’s mom had arranged for tonight’s pianist to do an audition workshop last week, so the kids were very prepared and on their game. I’ve met a few of them because I’ve seen Sami in her shows there and a few of her friends have come to see her at Kritzerland. It took about an hour and fifteen minutes all told, and by the end I pretty much knew who I was going to use. There will be two solos – one by Sami and one by her friend Samantha, and then we have four boys and four girls who will do my Sherman Brothers nonsense words medley – that will be broken up into lots of little solo things so everyone will have a call out moment. Then they’ll sing at the end, probably a little put-together of It’s a Small World and Let’s Go Fly a Kite. We’ll have a couple of rehearsals ahead of the event, in early December. I always enjoy seeing young folks step up to the plate.

After that, I came right home, relaxed a bit, sent a note thanking all the kids for their good auditions (Sami’s mom will get it to them), had to make some schedule adjustments for the Kritzerland rehearsals (it happens on every show), and I listened to some more music.

Today, I shall do many things – write, jog (need to do a longer jog today), hopefully pick up packages, have a telephonic conversation about The Brain with LACC, to work out all the details, and then I have a work session for The Brain, after which Richard and Elizabeth Sherman arrive and we’ll all mosey on over for a nice Eyetalian dinner at an Eyetalian restaurant in the Bank of Bur. He’ll do the signed musical quotes there.

Tomorrow I’m not sure what the HELL is going on other than we may announce the new title – either then or Monday morning. And the weekend is unknown to me other than maybe seeing a show on Sunday and having a nice meal on one of those evenings.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, write, do a jog, hopefully pick up packages, have a work session, hopefully have no irritants, and have a nice Eyetalian dinner. Today’s topic of discussion: What record album or CD have you played more than any other? You can break it down into genres if you like. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall wear my gaily-colored day of the week underpants so that when I awaken I will know it’s Thursday.
