SPEED WRITING FOR DUMMIES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must – oh, wait – too soon? Let me start over: Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry because she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon, meaning I have to be up early, meaning I’d better get crackin’, notes-wise. So, how was my first Keto-less day, food-wise? Not so bad. I had one chicken breast and wing from the California Chicken Café, but also had my beloved side of chicken pasta salad – all excellent. First pasta (not much of it, of course) I’ve had in twelve weeks, probably. And much later, after I returned from last evening’s playlets, I had me two chili dogs of my own making – low-cal buns, low-cal hot dogs, only a little chili – so all in all, I believe I came in right around 1200 calories. And now, as I write these here notes in a hurry, I am sitting here like so much fish listening to Morton Gould and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra do a GREAT Charles Ives symphony one. I love his first symphony – he’s not yet in his cacophonous phase. I have to say, those two hot dogs really hit the damn spot. My spot has been hit by two excellent hot dogs. And I’m having a Classic Lemonade Sparkling Ice, whilst the dishwasher is chugging along merrily.

Yesterday was, I believe, a Friday. I only got about six-and-a-half hours of sleep, because I was up late finishing Red Gold. I got a big kick out of it, frankly. I know at one point I had planned to do a sequel and had the story pretty much worked out, but even though you dear readers seemed to enjoy it, many other dear readers didn’t even order it to read and books like it are just too hard to do for one’s own pleasure. In a better world, young people would have discovered it as they did the Adriana Hofstetter books, but no, that never happened. I really want to get it to Clint.

Once up, I answered e-mails, had telephonic conversations, had my California Chicken Café food, shaved and showered, and then it was time to mosey on over to the theater to see the alternate evening of one-acts, all six of ‘em. They had about forty people, which is pretty full for their outdoor space, but about twelve of them left after intermission. Doug said what happens is people come to see their friends’ shows and then leave if those shows happen to be in the first act. Seems a bit weird to me. The best of the lot was actually Doug’s play – not the one he’s in but the one he wrote, which is an old short play of his that he apparently wrote for the theater way back in the day. It had some good laughs and moved right along.

After the play, I did a quick stop at Gelson’s to get the hot dogs, buns, and chili, came home, had a telephonic conversation with Doug and then ate the two hot dogs. And then it was time to write these here notes quickly, which, in case you weren’t aware, is what I’m doing.

Today, I’ll be up at eight-thirty, I’ll go have a light breakfast somewhere, then I’ll come back home, and I really must catch up on a lot of stuff I let slide over the past few days. Once I get all that done, then I might be able to relax and maybe even watch something. Then, my plan is to go to the theater around eight-thirty or thereabouts, so I can see how our playlet is doing. Then a few of us may go out for a bite, which is why I’ll keep the breakfast light – no potatoes or bread, just an omelet or something small like that.

Tomorrow can be a ME day, and then next week there’s a lot o’ stuff going on – meetings and meals, choosing the last of the songs, and we’ll begin attending to the changes we want to make to Nothing in Common so that we can then figure out how to proceed to the next step, which would be a staged reading, a workshop, or a lab, whichever will work best for us but all dependent on how much we can raise to do it.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up at eight-thirty, have light breakfast, come back home, catch up on stuff, maybe watch something, shave and shower, see our playlet, then maybe go out for a bite to eat. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your desert-island show CDs, ten of them, the ten you could never be without? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, having written these here notes as if I’d just finished reading Speed Writing for Dummies.
