RIDIC

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, still overtired and trying not to let the lack of sleep cause me to get sick, but this is getting ridic. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, this is getting ridic. On the other hand, the tossing and turning and Active Brain Syndrome (ABS) has brought me some wonderful ideas for the new book. My head is swimming with this stuff, and I always have to get up and write it down, otherwise I forget it. Last night, I was in bed by two and fell right asleep. At five-thirty I woke up, used the loo, got back in bed and then all this stuff came flooding into my head wholly formed. I ended up getting up four times to write stuff down. I did fall back asleep at about six for almost two-and-a-half ours, so about five-and-a-half hours of sleep. Otherwise, right now I’m listening to Puccini – Manon Lescaut – so enjoyable and tuneful, and that followed La Rondine, which I had no recording of that I could find but I snagged the classic Anna Moffo on RCA for eight bucks on eBay and that arrived and it’s just wonderful. I know it’s not considered great and yet it’s just filled with wonderful tunes. What an incredible maker of melodies was Puccini. Whilst listening, I’m eating some potato chip crumbs – you know, the tiny pieces that are always at the bottom of an eight-ounce bag. And prior to that, I sat on my couch like so much fish and could find not a single thing to watch on the Firestick. I finally just turned something on – I don’t even know what – and I fell asleep for thirty minutes, maybe a bit more.

Yesterday, I was up at eight-thirty, which is when the handyman arrived. I was dazed and confused as well as confused and dazed and it took about thirty minutes to uncloud the windmills of my mind. That was fine because I couldn’t do any work because he was making so much noise. Then the noise stopped, and I began futzing and finessing, which took about two hours, mostly due to the stuff I’d thought of whilst tossing and turning. So, one entire sequence got a major revision in terms of its intention and dialogue, and I think it came out pretty well. Otherwise, it was the usual stuff – additions, subtractions, and smoothing things out. Once I was finally finished with that, I began new pages and I actually did almost ten, because I was determined to finish the fifteen or sixteen pages, so that I wouldn’t write late into the evening.

After the handyman left, I went to the bank and banked, I picked up a couple of packages, then came home. I ordered in – a Stanley’s chopped salad. Hadn’t had one of those in quite some time and it was excellent and light. I forgot to tell them no bread so of course I ate the two pieces they included. I had some Milk Duds for a sweet. Then it was back to writing and I finished the next six pages, so that was great. I had a telephonic conversation, and then I tried to find something to watch to no avail, napped, made a show order, and then listened to music, Puccini, to be precise.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll futz and finesse, I’ll write new pages, and since I haven’t heard from Jason Graae, I’ll probably reschedule that lunch to next week. I’ll eat something very light, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll write more pages, and then at some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, it will be writing all day, then a belated birthday dinner with Karen Staitman and Sami, who just go in town. We’re going to Ruth’s Chris, so that should be grand fun – haven’t been in probably four years. Thursday is our work session for the Kritzerland show, Friday is writing, as is Saturday and Sunday and then we begin our Kritzerland show rehearsal week – Monday and Thursday for those, with a stumble-through on Saturday and show on Sunday. We’re almost sold out. Oh, and on that Friday, Robert Yacko and I are going to Palm Desert to see Cindy Williams’ one-woman show, so that should be fun.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, futz and finesse, write new pages, eat, hopefully pick up some packages, write more pages, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite late-night snacks? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping to sleep soundly so I don’t have another night that’s ridic.
