INSTANT REPLAY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, once again I must write these here notes in a hurry because we are having an instant replay of yesterday’s notes, due to not getting to sleep until around six and not arising until two-thirty. I’d stayed up until four finishing the fifteen pages I wanted to write, then it took a while to unwind from that and then, of course, the ABS (Active Brain Syndrome) kicked in and that was that. So, most of the day was already gone. I answered e-mails and then began futzing and finessing, which took about ninety minutes but thankfully I was happy with the writing including one page that made me actually laugh out loud, so I guess that was a good page. Then I wrote about two new pages, after which I went to Gelson’s and got ingredients for Wacky Noodles. I already had the noodles and the sour cream so the entire Gelson’s bill was all of five bucks. I came home, made about seven ounces of noodles and it was a very good batch and I haven’t made it with regular noodles in a while. Once I ate that, I went right back to writing and wrote another four pages and then it was already seven, so I took a break and continued watching what critics have proclaimed, in the latest Sight and Sound poll, the greatest film of all time, Jeanne Dielman. Well, let me tell you, unless there’s some alchemy or magic that happens in the final ninety minutes of this excruciating three-and-a-half hour film in which the camera never moves, every shot is a static shot from a fixed position with no coverage or cuts, and we get such thrilling scenes as Jeanne Dielman preparing dinner. Jeanne Dielman peeling not one, not two, but THREE potatoes – that one set my heart beating, let me tell you. Basically, it’s three days in the life of someone with a set routine who does the same thing every day. I shan’t say more until I subject myself to the final ninety minutes and then I shall most likely have plenty to say, oh, yes, I shall have plenty to say. However, I began watching at seven, immediately fell asleep, and awoke two hours later. I wasn’t planning on THAT, let me tell you.

Then I sat back down at the big boy computer and wrote more pages for a total of ten so far and my intention is to do five more before going to bed. So, as you can see, I am quite behind on the notes because we are having an instant replay of the previous day. Of course, I’ve now covered everything from yesterday so I don’t have to have a paragraph that says yesterday and isn’t that refreshingly refreshing? No, I can now skip directly to today and skip I shall and without further Ado Annie.

Today, I’ll be up by eleven, I’ll futz and finesse and maybe try to write a new page or two, depending on the futzing and finessing time, then I’ll mosey on over to Marshall Harvey’s abode to see the first cut of episode eight, which I’m very much looking forward to. Then we’ll finesse anything we deem necessary, then I’ll eat, and then try to write another fifteen pages, although I’m in the home stretch of the book now, its final thirty to fifty pages, as I see it now. Could be a bit less than that, but I don’t think it will be more. At some point, I’m sure I’ll try to suffer through the last ninety minutes of the marathon that is Jeanne Dielman.

Tomorrow is basically all writing and I don’t think I have any other plans and the same goes for Sunday. If I finish the book on Sunday or Monday I’ll try to corral someone into a celebratory meal and boy will I need a damn celebratory meal after finishing this one. Then next week is dealing with any number of pressing things that are pressing in and we will need some major miracles to survive all them pressing things that are pressing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven, futz and finesse, write a new page or two, see the first cut of episode eight, finesse that, should it need it, eat, write, and then watch, listen, and relax, although I haven’t been doing much of the latter two things. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – nothing until I’m finished writing. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping to not have any more instant replays of bed at six up at two-thirty.
