NOTES IN LATVIAN

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had us an excellent second rehearsal for the Kritzerland show with our large group of our very talented young folks. We finished earlier than I thought, around nine-fifteen, because our lone boy wasn’t with us. Obviously, that was four-and-a-half hours of my day and evening. After everyone left, I finessed the commentary and printed it out, so that’s done. I set up some but not all the chairs for the stumble-through today. I wrote another page of the book and I’d done eight earlier, so that’s nine so far and my plan is to do two or three more before I go to bed. Prior to all that, I think I got around seven hours of sleep and once up there were lots of e-mails to respond to then instead of futzing and finessing, I actually wrote a couple of pages first, then I went back and spent a bit of time futzing and finessing, but I was pretty happy with what I’d written, which was surprising.  I ordered my little pepperoni pizza from Marco’s Pizza nearby and that came and was very good. Then I continued writing until it was time for rehearsal, a totally of eight pages, then as I said above, I wrote one more after rehearsal. Why am I repeating myself? Why am I repeating myself? I’ll tell you why, because I just covered the entirety of yesterday in one half a paragraph and now what? Now what do I do? Do I vamp, do I do a few songs from Whoop-Up, do I eat something else so I can talk about it? Do I do the Dance of the Seven Veils? That would be difficult since I only own two veils and I save them for making veiled threats. What else could I do? I could dance to the music of the Ocarina. I could think of what my pronouns might be. I could go hither, thither, and yon and back. I could read a psalm. I could count from one to ten in Latvian – viens, divi, tris, cetri, pieci, sesi, septini, astoni, devini, desmit – I could say What is it, fish in Latvian – kas tas ir, zivis – I could say may you pass a kidney stone with ease in Latvian – lai jus viegli izietu no nierakmena – well, that’s enough Latvian, don’t you think? I do. I could have a poker face whilst playing gin. There are many things I could do but I think we’ll just move it right along.

Today, I’ll be up by ten, I’ll shave and shower and get everything ready so I can leave right after we finish rehearsing. If I have any time, I may futz and finesse and try to write some pages before everyone arrives for our one-thirty stumble-through. We’re hoping it doesn’t rain until after the show, but we’ll see. Once I give whatever notes I have, then we’ll all mosey on over to The Gardenia for sound check. We’ll finish that by four-thirty or so and I know some of the parents will get food for the kids and bring it back. The parents, who make up a good deal of the audience, will then have their dinners and whoever else is coming will have theirs. Then we do the show at seven o’clock, and then I’ll come home – not sure of the route because Hollywood is so crazy at night with all the new clubs on the side streets and closures. I could try Vine, which I think is free of all that junk or I could go to Laurel Canyon or Nichols Canyon and go that route. We shall see. Once home, I’ll relax and try to write a few pages.

Tomorrow, I’ll be up by eleven or so and I’ll work on the book until it’s time to get ready, then I’ll mosey on over to The Gardenia around four-thirty for a very quick sound check. Then it’s dinner and then we play our sold out show. I will, of course, have a full report for you, oh, yes, I will have a full report for you. I may try to have a meal after the show, like we always did at Vitello’s. Then Monday, I send the next batch of around 105 pages to Muse Margaret and I’m hoping she likes them. Then I’ll mush on with the writing and deal with some other stuff I’ll need to deal with. Marshall will begin cutting episode eight and hopefully I’ll see that at some point next week.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by ten, shave and shower and get everything ready for The Gardenia, do a stumble-through and give notes, then go to The Gardenia for sound check, dinner, and then we do the show, after which I’ll come home. Today’s topic of discussion: Sorry, someone else will have to come up with it and do a fun one. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have written some of these here notes in Latvian.
