Well, dear readers, I am sitting here listening to the lovely first symphony of Albert Roussel, an impressionistic work that leaves an impression. And I did manage to watch a motion picture after having a somewhat irritating afternoon of irritation. The motion picture was yet another of those low-budget Canadian things, what they call a psychological thriller, I suppose. I watched it because Mira Sorvino was in it and I realized I’d never seen her in anything else after Mighty Aphrodite. It’s a rather silly movie about an awkward high schooler, bullied by some nasty boys who suddenly finds her mirror image talking to her. Yes. That’s right. And yes, the mirror image coerces the awkward her to trade places and then the mirror image does just what you’d expect, revenge on the mean boys, her best friend who the mirror image knew wasn’t a friend at all, and on her father. Turns out the mirror image was the image of awkard girl’s twin sister, born deformed and killed by the father because he didn’t want to deal with it. I think that was the plot. The film goes on thirty minutes too long, and if you mashed up two Brian de Palma movies, which I’m pretty sure is exactly what the writer/director did, you’d have Sisters/Carrie. The problem with the movie from the get-go is, unlike Carrie, awkward girl is completely annoying and unlikeable. Her parents are just odd, especially daddy, who does plastic surgery. It’s nothing special in any department, really. The lead girl is played by India Eisley, whose lineage is certainly interesting, with mummy being Olivia Hussey and paternal grandpa being Anthony Eisley. In the movie she’s playing a sixteen-year-old – in real life she was twenty-five and apparently she has no compunction about doing nudity because there are several scenes where she is completely nekkid, including one inf front of the actor playing her father. But now, let’s talk about the rest of the day, shall we?
I guess the Ny-Quil worked because I was asleep the minute my head hit the pillow and I slept twelve hours. It took me thirty minutes to de-gunkify so I could talk on the phone, which I did, mostly about the Sami series and Amazon. Amazon has changed its model about episodic series. Until 2021 you could offer a series or anything free for Prime members. Why they would take away that option is anyone’s guess but it is infuriating because now we have to charge. We’re doing the lowest possible price, which is ninety-nine cents an episode, which means to purchase the series it probably is nine dollars and ninety-nine cents or something like that. There is simply no other option, but I’m hoping that price is reasonable enough that we can get everyone to watch and, of course, own the series. You can’t even get anyone to respond to discuss it. Very frustrating. But the day started off poorly with a thoroughly irritating text that I knew would be waiting for me, like clockwork. After the Amazon stuff, I got the familiar pop-up from Microsoft Office for updates to all the apps. This is something I do not understand because they’ve been coming once a week. It was never like that before and after yesterday, I’m not sure I’ll ever do it again. I clicked for it to do it and it began uploading the first of the updates and then tried to install it – only it was clearly taking too long – normally it’s a minute or so but after fifteen or twenty minutes and the task bar telling me it would be another ninety minutes, I quit out of the auto uploader, furious. Then I opened Word and it would not open. It tried but shut down instantly. I tried opening a document, same thing. At that point, I’d had it and put in for a phone call for Microsoft 365 – I pay for that service so they do have to call in a timely fashion, which they did. I got some guy in India I’m sure, who assured me we’d fix the problem and he was the guy who could. That always makes me nervous. Anyway, he had me drag the Word icon in my applications folder to the trash. Then he asked me to empty the trash. We then spent the next thirty minutes watching while it tried to empty the trash, because for whatever reason it was going through every document, over 14,000 on all. He was on the phone at that point with experts who were telling him to just wait and let it do it’s thing. It finally finished.
Then he had me go to the app store and get Word again. And for whatever reason that was slow as molasses. After thirty minutes, he said he had to go but assured me an expert would call me within the hour. Which meant he didn’t really know what he was doing. I let him go. About fifteen minutes later it finally finished and the Word app was in my applications folder again. I clicked on it and thankfully it opened right up. I put it back in the dock, opened the working documents and all was well and well was all. But that was basically two hours of my time. The expert did call and was happy to hear I was up and running.
I had a Philly cheesesteak sandwich from Fat Sal’s – it’s not that big and doesn’t really have a ton of meat in it, but I do enjoy it. I didn’t have fries. At that point in the day I was feeling a lot better, and other than the gunk in my chest, hoped that would be it. But later, after the movie, I wasn’t feeling quite as on the mend, but that’s happened before. Then I watched the movie, joined TikTok, where we’ve just uploaded our trailer – we’d made a page there for our show, called samitheseries, so if you happen to be on TikTok please search the page and follow or like or whatever you’re supposed to do there. Share it, heart it, I don’t understand any of it. My moniker is BK or haineshisway. Please do that at your earliest convenience, please. If you’re on Instagram you can do the same thing, search samitheseries. And if you haven’t followed our Facebook page, that’s the same thing and please do so there.
Then I watched the movie. Since I’d only eaten the Philly sandwich, which really wasn’t enough for the day, I got a six-inch Subway pastrami, that arrived, and it was just the right size for a snack. And then it was time to write these here notes.
Today, I’ll be up when I’m up – I’m taking Ny-Quil again – I’ll do whatever needs doing, including the work I started yesterday on the project with David Wechter, I’ll probably try to get to the mail place as I know there’s a green envelope there from the WGA and that it contains a small residual for The Faculty, I’ll eat, we’ll probably go ahead and submit our show to Amazon, then we’ll see how long it takes for them to accept it – we’re hopeful it will be quick, as we really need to start the publicity machine now that we have an exact date (but only if they accept it), which is April 23, a Sunday. I’ll still rest, and then at some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.
The rest of what’s left of the week is more of the same, seeing The Secret Garden on Saturday, and just taking care of myself and continuing to pray for a humungous, giant, family-sized major miracle.
Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, continue doing my little fixes on the project with David Wechter, mosey on over to the mail place, eat, submit the show to Amazon, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What do you think about this Amazon business of not allowing a series to be offered free. They do allow feature films to be offered for free, so I don’t really understand it at all. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, still having the will to de-gunkify and get all this gunk out of my system.
